Offered vaccine healthy 30s

confused774 · 22/02/2021 08:54

I just received a message from gps offering the vaccine. I'm 32 healthy woman with 2 young children.
I don't know if this is a mistake, but when you call the doctors they have a voicemail saying that they basically won't have any discussions about the vaccine and to just do what they message says when you receive it!
I don't know whether to call them to ask if they've made a mistake or go ahead an book it!

It does seem as though they have made a mistake. Keep calling. They must pick up at some point.

KihoBebiluPute · 22/02/2021 09:01

Go ahead and book it. Yes it may be a mistake e.g. they may have the wrong number for your height or weight (like that chap in the news whose gp had calculated a ridiculously high bmi because his height was recorded as 6.2cm instead of 6 foot 2 inches). However, there isn't the admin capacity to investigate and sort out such mistakes and everyone has to be vaccinated sooner or later. This will happen most swiftly and efficiently if everyone just does as they are asked without rocking the boat.

Kazziek · 22/02/2021 09:01

We all have to get vaccinated at some point. Go ahead and book it.

peak2021 · 22/02/2021 09:07

It's a mistake I know but just take it. Be gracious and don't boast about it to others though. Just think of the fact that if it stops transmission, then a school teacher might be spared.

sunflowersandbuttercups · 22/02/2021 09:08

Just take the appointment.

We're all going to get vaccinated at some point anyway!

Purplewithred · 22/02/2021 09:09

What @KihoBebiluPute said - the new cohort of 16-64 moderately vulnerable is a tricky group to identify and the appointments are often being managed by an external organiser; at least one GP round here made a mistake and offered jabs to loads of random people. Their response was go ahead and book if you want, don’t book if you don’t want, but please please don't call us we just don't have the staff to manage the calls.

sst1234 · 22/02/2021 09:09

So what if it is a mistake? Go ahead and book it.

Googlebrained · 22/02/2021 09:10

I agree, just have the vaccine. It takes more admin time to resolve the situation (they can't just take you off as they'd have to then put you into the correct listing) and they're so busy trying to just get the massive logistical operation completed.

JustTeach · 22/02/2021 09:11

Just book it. Everyone’s going to be offered it in the next few months so may as well be now.

NeverTalksToStrangers · 22/02/2021 09:12

Did you have gestational diabetes, by any chance?

Gubanc · 22/02/2021 09:16

I'm going to disagree with the rest. Call your gp first as you may as well me turned away at the centre.

Spillanelle · 22/02/2021 09:16

Don’t keep calling if they’ve specifically asked people not to, I think you should just do as they’ve asked in their voicemail and follow the instructions you’ve received. There may be a good reason why you’re on the list, or it may be a mistake, either way I reckon it’s probably quicker and easier all round for you to just have it than it is for them to spend time looking into it.

ShanghaiDiva · 22/02/2021 09:20

Just book it.
One more person vaccinated benefits the entire community.
If you have a booking you will not be turned away from the vaccination centre. I volunteer at a mass hub and nobody has time to question why you have a booking: you have a booking, you get the vaccination.

NewScone · 22/02/2021 09:20

Their voicemail says to just do what it says so I'd do what it says.

Branleuse · 22/02/2021 09:22

Just take the appointment. The faff of trying to rearrange it later if youve bedn offered and declined, would be more of a pain for the doctors than if you just went and got it now. We all need doing ASAP

SchrodingersImmigrant · 22/02/2021 09:24

Are you obese?

Adancewithdragons · 22/02/2021 09:26

My friend had the same not obese and no reason. Got through to the doctors and they said regardless if she didn’t go she wouldn’t be offered it again in a few months so told her to go.

confused774 · 22/02/2021 09:27

Thanks for replies everyone. No I didn't have gestational diabetes and not overweight.

DavidsSchitt · 22/02/2021 09:47

For those saying the OP might be turned away at the vaccination centre - has this actually happened to anyone?

My friend works at one and says they haven't turned anyone away other than pregnant women.

Rewis · 22/02/2021 09:47

My bf is healthy 40yo. He had his first jab.

Just take the vaxx. It cause more work to ask/cancel/re-book/call someone else etc. Having it done helps everyone.

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 22/02/2021 09:53

This happened to my cousin! He's 37, no underlying conditions, slim, and very fit! His dad, whose nearly 60 and has a heart condition, hasn't been invited yet. Seems crazy, can only assume somethings gone wrong somewhere.

Wnikat · 22/02/2021 09:54

Heard of this happening to lots of people...

IggyAce · 22/02/2021 10:00

Just book the appointment, you won’t get turned away at the centre they are too busy vaccinating everyone. They ask a few questions eg have you tested positive for COVID in x time frame, do you have symptoms, allergies and could you be pregnant. Get consent give jab and send you to a waiting area for 15mins. Had mine Saturday evening and it was busy but efficient.

whojamaflip · 22/02/2021 10:05

I was offered it but no pre existing conditions, normal bmi etc.

Rang surgery to book and did query what I had been invited - turns out they still had me down as a carer for my elderly uncle who died in 2012!

Rejected for this round and sent to the back of the queue!!

confused774 · 22/02/2021 10:08

It's interesting to see it's happened to others. I keep trying to think if there's any reason I would have been offered it but there's nothing I can think of. I decided to go ahead and book as most people have suggested!
