Offered vaccine healthy 30s

confused774 · 22/02/2021 08:54

I just received a message from gps offering the vaccine. I'm 32 healthy woman with 2 young children.
I don't know if this is a mistake, but when you call the doctors they have a voicemail saying that they basically won't have any discussions about the vaccine and to just do what they message says when you receive it!
I don't know whether to call them to ask if they've made a mistake or go ahead an book it!

Just book it! The more people who have it the better all around.

HappyasLaura · 22/02/2021 12:44

I would prefer to see a healthy 30 year old getting vaccinated than a vaccine going to waste because the uptake among the current priority group isn’t high enough.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 22/02/2021 12:45

Yeah I think the window is Feb to April so all areas are covered in it. Some will be done now, some will be done in few weeks.

Izitso · 22/02/2021 12:45

@schrodingersImmigrant
Thank you for that! I'm glad you've had your vaccination then. Maybe it is different in some areas

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 22/02/2021 12:47

I’m group 6 and not had mine so I think it really depends where you live.

Spoke to our head teacher today and he said some teachers had randomly had theirs even thought they aren’t in priority groups. Which was great to hear but was not done because they are teachers or anything sensible.

GoldenBlue · 22/02/2021 12:55

If you've ever had gestational diabetes it will have triggered your vaccine offer.

Take them up on the offer, everyone will be vaccinated eventually and you risk delaying or missing your slot if you reject the offer now.

The phones are tied up booking, it's pretty intense, I wouldn't keep ringing if I were you (NHS worker)

Mysillystory · 22/02/2021 12:57

Are you a carer for a disabled person? As unpaid carers and those who get carers allowance are being vaccinated now

Toomanybedrooms · 22/02/2021 13:21

Cant stop laughing.
Not at you op.

I saw something somewhere saying that a man was 6 foot or so and they had on the records that he was 6cm.
150lbs and 6cm tall.

Could this be what happened?

FrickinA · 22/02/2021 14:11

‘ For those saying the OP might be turned away at the vaccination centre - has this actually happened to anyone? ’

No, it hasn’t. I’m working in one and if you have an appt, and your paperwork is there, you will get the vaccine. No-one is interrogating patients or checking whether or not they should have been give an appt in the first place by their GP.
We’re just trying to get through everyone as quickly as possible. That’s the priority.
I have some younger people try to explain that actually they have a heart condition or had a transplant or etc etc. But honestly, we don’t care! It’s not up to me to police who gets it when and why.

FrickinA · 22/02/2021 14:13

It’s true that carers are being offered it too now when they come in with someone with an appt if we know we will have enough to cover the booked spots that day safely.

Did you choose the "not sure" option? That is if you think you may be or should be closed as cv - don't mean to pry.
Hi

I am CEV so easy for me but for my son who is 'vulnerable' I picked vulnerable. You could just pick not sure if you don't know - some people really don't know because they have health issues that makes them more vulnerable but might not be on the 'actual list'. At the end of the day there were lots of spaces and if you don't use them they just sit empty..... the more vaccinated the more it protects everyone in society. The top 4 groups have been called up for a while to get vaccinated and so should have sorted it by now.

Anna12345678910 · 22/02/2021 14:25
@Anna12345678910 thank you I just had a look. It says I am not eligible despite being group 6. I'm not sure why then. My GP surgery is very clear on not wanting to be called about vaccines so I don't feel I can approach them
That's really odd. My son is group 6 and was able to book. Maybe different parts of the country have released vaccines for group 6 and others haven't then?

Some areas are far further ahead for the vaccine roll out than other areas. South West is a long way ahead and even employees of our local County Council are being vaccinated (desk jobs included, all roles). I hope your area gets to group 6 soon.

Yes, we have this here. I know a couple of teachers that are not CEV or CV and they have been called in. One visits her mother who is vulnerable but not a carer but was called up so naturally went - why wouldn't anyone. The other had no idea but went anyway and had the vaccine - it makes sense.

But the reason for not turning them away is that otherwise a whole load of already defrosted vaccines would go to waste.

There's some fault in the system if people left and right are getting vaccines ahead of those more in need (inc teachers).

If there's a supply issue, a lot more vulnerable people will miss out.

nokidshere · 22/02/2021 15:30

If you are called to get it then just get it done. It doesn't matter why you were chosen, it could be any number of reasons. If it lets you book then you will not be turned away. As a pp said, the vaccinators don't know who you are or why you are there, just that there is a vaccine for you that will go to waste if you don't turn up.

FrickinA · 22/02/2021 16:41

If someone has an appt they have an appt. the vaccine is drawn up as it’s needed hour by hour. It’s doesn’t go to waste. We have hardly any no shows, and the 2-3 drawn up shots left at the end of the night are offered to volunteers or anyone else unvaccinated.
Like I said, we don’t police how ‘worthy’ people are if the vaccination. They book using their NHS number or via their GP etc and have been told to book.
We all need vaccinated. All of us. The sooner the better.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 22/02/2021 16:50

I was incredibly impressed with our centre. So efficient. In and out in minutes, mo waiting anywhere. Everyone was lovely and polite.

MrsFezziwig · 22/02/2021 16:55

I know someone after retirement age with diabetes and aome other condition who still hasn't been invited. On the lther hand I know someone who has no issues and has been invited. There are some hiccups in the system.

Anyone who is above the current age cut off (65+) is eligible to book online, regardless of whether they’ve been invited or not and regardless of health conditions. If your friend wouldn’t be able to do that (not intending to be patronising, but not everyone can deal with the technology) could you do it on their behalf? They might have to be prepared to travel a little though.

I am letting them know. They are able to do it. They contacted their gp and were told "no can do if you didn't get the message you are probably not in it". I get that they are busy, but the hiccup is bit annoying
Sh05 · 22/02/2021 17:23

Glad to read you're booking it OP. I know atleast two people who took elderly parents in and were offered the vaccine because so many people who were booked in hadn't turned up. If you've got the correct paperwork then you won't get turned away

typicalvalues · 22/02/2021 18:02

I've received a text today from the NHS trust that I'm in. It gives the reason why I'm being offered the vaccine which is that 'you have been an inpatient with us in the past year' i.e. that I've been admitted to hospital in the past year. Problem is, the centre they've told me to attend (walk-in, no appointment required) is quite far away. I'm currently extremely unwell with vomiting, so I'm not sure that I'll be able to make it their (probably £20 in taxi to get there and same back). It goes on to say 'If you are unable to attend at short notice, there will be other ways for you to get vaccinated over the coming days/weeks'. It then gives a telephone number if you have queries. I'll call them tomorrow to see if they can book me into a centre closer to me.

typicalvalues · 22/02/2021 18:03

Oh - I'm in London. Early forties, asthma.

typicalvalues · 22/02/2021 18:04

The centre they've booked me in to is another London borough - adjacent to my borough.

typicalvalues · 22/02/2021 18:07

The NHS trust I'm in covers hospitals in at least 2 boroughs I think, so they don't seem to be doing it by borough, by GP practice, but by NHS trust.

You shouldn't go when you are unwell and vomiting no matter how close it is.
