Offered vaccine healthy 30s

confused774 · 22/02/2021 08:54

I just received a message from gps offering the vaccine. I'm 32 healthy woman with 2 young children.
I don't know if this is a mistake, but when you call the doctors they have a voicemail saying that they basically won't have any discussions about the vaccine and to just do what they message says when you receive it!
I don't know whether to call them to ask if they've made a mistake or go ahead an book it!

It's tricky, I can see why you are wanting to ask. It's especially hard if you know someone who seems more at risk than you but hasn't been offered it yet.

nothingcanhurtmewithmyeyesshut · 22/02/2021 10:14

I'd just book it. Its more of a ballache trying to sort it out than its worth.

Are you in london. They seem to be moving quicker in central london.

Justlovedogs · 22/02/2021 10:22

Book it. It might just mean your surgery have made better progress through the patients due to demographics.
Got my invite today. 49 yo, very mild high blood pressure and didn't expect to be in the queue for months. I'm over the moon! Glitterball

QuentinInQuarantino · 22/02/2021 10:24

Did you put your height down in cm instead of feet so your BMI came out at 28,0000 like this guy?

What’s with all the debate on this one? A quarter of the population has had their first dose. If we start investigating everytime someone unexpected gets a vaccine invite, getting the rest of the population vaccinated could take an eternity. Stop overthinking it and just get on with it.

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 22/02/2021 10:28

@whojamaflip

I was offered it but no pre existing conditions, normal bmi etc.

Rang surgery to book and did query what I had been invited - turns out they still had me down as a carer for my elderly uncle who died in 2012!

Rejected for this round and sent to the back of the queue!!

I wonder if this could be the case for my cousin, as he cared for his mum when she was sadly dying of breast cancer. But then so did his dad, and he's not been invited despite having an underlying condition.

Sparklesocks · 22/02/2021 10:31

This is happening in our area too, the council updated to say they’re working through 60-65 year olds but a lot of seemingly healthy people in their 30s and 40s have been invited too. It’s not clear how they’re being selected but some think it might be post code. According to local fb groups some have rung up their GP to query but have been told to book it regardless.

I agree you should book it and go for it. The more people who are vaccinated the better anyway.

unmarkedbythat · 22/02/2021 10:34

Just book it. It will waste more time to look into your case, decide whether or not it was a mistake and either cancel or confirm your place, and eventually all adults will be vaccinated, so just book.

redheadwitch · 22/02/2021 10:36

Im booked in for my vaccine. Healthy mid-30s. Probably a little bit overweight but certainly not a BMI of over 40. I had asthma many years ago, havent had medication for it for 5+ years.

Happy to get the vaccine so just left things as they were.

dontgobaconmyheart · 22/02/2021 10:41

I'd still book it but would be looking to speak to someone about it. Ultimately something on your medical records indicates you would be eligible, if that is on there in error it does absolutely need correcting for your own safety should you be hospitalised (god forbid obviously) in the future.

KatherineJaneway · 22/02/2021 10:46

Take it. It will cause more admin work if you try and contact them and refuse.

Horizons83 · 22/02/2021 10:51

My relative's GP is flying through their list and are simply continuing to vaccinate as and when they receive vaccinations. So it's entirely possible that it's simply where your GP has got to on their list.

Any person vaccinated helps to cut transmission so please just take it, don't waste the GP's time trying to get you removed from a list.

DGRossetti · 22/02/2021 10:57

Go for it - the more vaccinated the better.

I've been seeing quite a few people surprised at being invited all over the UK. The general consensus is that it's being done from local lists, so some places have done all the over 70s, over 65s, key workers, clinically vulnerable and are now just moving down the list.

If the setup at your centre is anything like ours, it's just a case of matching people to invites and then in the queue. Our queue was 17 people long, and with 4 rooms vaccinating we were in and out in 18 minutes.

God bless the NHS and all who work in her. Again.

Anna12345678910 · 22/02/2021 11:03

My 22 year old adult son was offered one and has had it. The vaccination centre had 4 people doing vaccines and he was the only one there! Seriously if you are offered then book it - they want people to get vaccinated.
I am CEV and had mine over a month ago. It was 3/4's full then.

If you are category 1- 6 then get on the website and BOOK your vaccine stop sitting around wringing hands and get on with it. They are sat waiting for people to come in!

This.

If anyone gets an invite unless some serious reason why you cannot then go get it. The quicker the better, the more the better. I want my life back and the vaccine programme will help this.

I want to see the vaccine centres full and vaccinating every day not as they are now in many places half empty

mommybunny · 22/02/2021 11:12

Agree with those who say please just go ahead and book your vaccine as soon as you can. If you don’t take this offer now you may go to the back of the queue and be missed entirely.

On the other hand you may be bombarded with invitations till you just capitulate and go. I was eligible for a free flu jab for the first time last year as an (otherwise healthy) over-50, and I phoned the GP to decline as I had already had one a month earlier (I had arranged one privately as I’d heard there were supply issues with getting all the over-50s done). I still kept getting letters asking me to come for the shot.

Please don’t worry you’re taking one from someone else. As others have said, every vaccinated person moves us closer to herd immunity.

I know it is fashionable to bash the government for everything about their response to COVID but in this case they are spot on with the vaccine rollout. There may be pockets of randomness in determining who gets invited but by and large it just has the general appearance of being fair and reasonable. Almost all my family are in the US and it’s really hard to get a vaccine appointment - you often have to spend hours trawling pharmacy websites (a bit like it was here trying to get a COVID test a few months ago) and you may not be successful. Queue jumping by the rich and powerful is not only possible it’s common. We’re just not seeing that here. There is faith that if someone who “shouldn’t be getting it” is getting it it is probably just an admin error, or they were able to get a vaccine that might otherwise have been wasted, and we can all believe our turn will come soon enough.

Go get it OP! Good luck.

Jaxhog · 22/02/2021 11:13

@Rewis

My bf is healthy 40yo. He had his first jab.

Just take the vaxx. It cause more work to ask/cancel/re-book/call someone else etc. Having it done helps everyone.

This. There are bound to be errors in this process. Don't tie up your GP, unless it's the other way round. Just go.
DGRossetti · 22/02/2021 11:14

Our (suburban Birmingham) centre seemed fully queued and speaking (briefly - there wasn't much time Smile) to the staff it hadn't let up since they began. From what we saw (we were only there for 30 minutes) people seemed to be turning up pretty much on time, and joining the queue which seemed to move one spot a minute. For fun I tried to guess how many a day they were doing and came up with 480 - so when the nurse that jabbed me said they were aiming for 500/day, I felt quite smug.

I'll keep posting our experiences in the hope that it might be the straw that tips someone into getting their vaccine. It's all very well us wowing at the Mars rover that's just landed ... but believe me this vaccine makes that a kids toy in the scale of things.

Angel2702 · 22/02/2021 11:16

@Gubanc

I'm going to disagree with the rest. Call your gp first as you may as well me turned away at the centre.
The centre won’t have your medical records to see why you’ve been called, they take your date of birth and name that’s it. If you have link from GP to book you will be on the list at the centre.
zigaziga · 22/02/2021 11:19

Yes just take it, not worth wasting anyone’s time investigating.
The other thing is - if you decline to book it now, will that could as a decline and you won’t get the text again?

confused774 · 22/02/2021 11:22

I know everyone's, I should just book and get it so I have done! It's this week.
I just had questions because I felt bad if it was error and was depriving someone more in need, but I can't even get through to the doctors to query it anyway and I'm sure it would cause them more admin time than it would be if I just went and got it. I'm in a big city in the south west.
