To be annoyed my husband doesn’t want to buy gloves for our baby?

My husband is doesn’t want to buy new winter gloves for our baby. He doesn’t think that they’re worth it as she won’t get much wear out of them before winter is over. He wants her to wear a few pairs of socks on her hands instead or buy a used pair. AIBU to think he is being too stingy?

Socks are fine tbh. It’s only likely to be cold enough to need gloves for another 3 or 4 weeks anyway. My baby doesn’t have gloves because I’ve learnt my lesson and know they never stay on. I buy babygrows with the integrated mitts.

I bought a mittens and hat combo from M&S, it was about £12 I think. I bought them in a size 18-24 months. He is 10 months now but I bought them when shops were open so about 8 months.

The mittens are HUGE and they go on nicely and he keeps them on. I think because he can do his little hand twisty thing he likes within the mitten becuase it's got enough room. The hat is not as big as one might expect, or DS just had a large head!

So anyway haha I would buy mittens in a much larger size.

In Boston?

Long Gap baby socks were the only thing that ours kept on.

@ZZTopGuitarSolo - Boston is 7 degrees tomorrow, unless they're taking the baby out in the middle of the night it should be fine.

Boston averages 7 days of snow in March.

@ZZTopGuitarSolo - the baby isn't throwing snowballs, it averages 8 degrees in Boston in March. Snow gloves are overkill, socks would be fine.

I got my baby expensive gloves that apparently could not be pulled off, they had long cuffs. Waste of bloody money as I couldn't get them on her. She didnt wear them once.

Larger size mittens aren't that great either. My DC is now 2. We just have lots of thin gloves if he's playing in the snow - he gets cross when he can't grab stuff properly in waterproof mitten. If we're walking in cold weather we put gloves on before coat (which is too big so good at trapping gloves) and he's only removed 1 of the smaller fleece mittens without us knowing (fortunately rescued and left on the gate to the hill).

Last year gloves (and socks) were very much hated!

@ZZTopGuitarSolo hahaha you were right. There I was a little bit of snow today. Very weird because yesterday it was another warm sunny day! Needed sunglasses and suncream!! I think the snowy days are numbered though. Definitely feel the spring weather coming now. It’s usually 10C during the day now
I did try the socks method and they stayed on! And kept my baby warm!
Her feet though are another matter- I find they are still cold with booties and 2 layers of socks.

LOL yes - I’m about 75m north of you and we ice skated on the river this morning. Not something I ever imagined doing when I lived in the UK.

Have you lived here for long?

Pennethorne · 27/02/2021 17:14

It's February, and babies don't need gloves. Especially not ones that cost any sort of money - you can get them for 99p from a supermarket.

Peridotty · 27/02/2021 19:34

@ZZTopGuitarSolo this will be my second winter here! You probably live in New Hampshire?? I’m sure it’s colder outside Boston. Boston is cold but not mega cold!! I did see some people cross country skiing in the park!!!! First time I ever saw fhat. I didn’t know what they were doing !
