I was asked how old I was at work so I said 25 as I’m 25 in. July. Work fired then say oh you actually 24 not 25. I don’t see what difference it makes as I’m very nearly 25 so simple rounded up.

OP posts:
AndPatraWillNeverSayNever · 18/02/2021 15:26

Oh oh! Sorry. Read that wrong. That's the opposite then. Still a full on lie but adding-years-to-your-age lie, not shaving it off.Grin

Thanks @Bluntness100

madnessitellyou · 18/02/2021 15:27

When you get to my age it isn't a question of rounding up or down but remembering how old you are. I'm over 40 and genuinely have to think by how much.

Op don't wish your years away!

FidgetArse · 18/02/2021 15:28

Im glad this is your biggest problem in life

PandemicAtTheDisco · 18/02/2021 15:29

Some people have little quirks that make them feel special and stand out but make other people just think they are odd or stupid.

We have conventional ways of doing things that are virtually 100% in common usage. To carry on using one's own distinct way of doing things and insisting that they don't understand why others are finding it odd and that they are unaware of how everyone else acts just comes across as either attention seeking or as stupidity.

gamerchick · 18/02/2021 15:31

I don't change age until the time I was born me these days. No way I'd round it up. Grin

supersop60 · 18/02/2021 15:32

OP, when you're in your dotage it will be fine to exaggerate a bit eg I'm nearly 90, y'know?
You are 24.

dontgetmewrong · 18/02/2021 15:32

Oh to be 24 again! Give the OP another 10 years she'll be hanging onto her currant age until the very last second.

@madnessitellyou I'm 25 and have this problem, give it another few years and I'll probably struggle with my name.
katy1213 · 18/02/2021 15:38

Another few years and you'll be crying about being 30 - won't be so keen to round it up then!

pigsDOfly · 18/02/2021 15:39

Bloody hell, OP don't round your age up.

By the time you get to my age - 72 years and 3 months - you'll be grateful for that extra five months from February to July.

luckylavender · 18/02/2021 15:45

I don't understand why you rounded up your age either. Very odd.

cathcath2 · 18/02/2021 15:47

I did this accidentally once - ooops. Luckily to someone who didn't realise Grin. My birthday is considerably sooner than yours and I'm not rounding up (maybe because I'm older though!)

Ijustknowitstimetogo · 18/02/2021 15:49

You’re 24. That’s what most people would say.

SheCannaeTakeNoMoreCapt · 18/02/2021 15:51

I would have corrected you too. If you are asked how old you are, the answer is actually how old you are, not how old you will be after your next birthday.
You're the odd one in this scenario.

Hepsie · 18/02/2021 15:52

Grin Why do you do that op? TBF, I always used to do that too, looking back as a now older person, I think I mentally cheated myself out of my years of being young. I'd stick to your actual age if I were you.

AbsitivelyPosolutely · 18/02/2021 15:53

I often say I'm 25, too.

JackieWeaverhastheauthority · 18/02/2021 15:54

I've spent so long believing my own age-related propaganda that I have no clue how old I am unless I work it out on my fingers...

Twillow · 18/02/2021 15:56

@W3dontdoduvets

You’re 24 you plum.
this
Bookwords · 18/02/2021 15:57

@AbsitivelyPosolutely is that because you are 25, or are you some other random age?

UntamedWisteria · 18/02/2021 15:58

is this your first ever post on MN OP or are you a name changer?

Toomanybedrooms · 18/02/2021 15:59

@ThreeTwoOneBlastOff

I bet in 20 years you won’t be doing this...
Haha. Cant stop laughing at this! I think in 20 years she be taking off a year because she has ‘only just turned 45’
PolloDePrimavera · 18/02/2021 16:02

I might as well start rounding down, to the nearest ten.

Maddison12 · 18/02/2021 16:02

My birthday's also in July, it's months away!

If asked I would never round up my age I'd say younger

I'm not old by any stretch of imagination but the years go by far too quickly as it is, without ageing yourself.

TaraR2020 · 18/02/2021 16:02

I think this whole thing is bizarre...I wouldn't accuse a colleague of lying about their age, I'd just think they were odd.

It is odd to round your age up when you're still half a year away from your birthday but I don't think of any of this is a big deal. Hmm
