To find it odd that she felt the need to correct me

I was asked how old I was at work so I said 25 as I’m 25 in. July. Work fired then say oh you actually 24 not 25. I don’t see what difference it makes as I’m very nearly 25 so simple rounded up.

OP posts:
WilsonMilson · 18/02/2021 13:28

Who the fuck rounds up their age? You’re 24!

zingally · 18/02/2021 13:28

The odd part is that you rounded up!

"Nearly" 25 implies your birthday is within the next fortnight, not 5 months away! Very odd.

TimeIhadaNameChange · 18/02/2021 13:28

Your friend no doubt thinks it was weird she had to correct you.

Why did you feel it necessary to lie about your age?

Givemeabreak88 · 18/02/2021 13:28

Yeh you're the odd one

ThreeTwoOneBlastOff · 18/02/2021 13:28

I bet in 20 years you won’t be doing this...

Jackie2022 · 18/02/2021 13:30

I’m 24. Best believe I’m telling everyone who asks that I’m 24 until my actual birthday in March. In fact, in my head I’m still 23 as I have spent the entirety of 24 in lockdown!

Also at work, 25+ earn more than 24 year olds if you’re paid minimum wage. This could be why they asked

Justmuddlingalong · 18/02/2021 13:30

She was stating a fact. You're the one who was incorrect and therefore her correcting you was entirely reasonable.

Legitimacy · 18/02/2021 13:30

My birthday is in May and I wouldn't round up my age.

SummerHouse · 18/02/2021 13:30

This is the weirdest thing to do.

No, actually scrap that, the weirdest thing is to start a thread on it.

Yes, I know I could have scrolled on by but I felt compelled to comment on the strangeness of it all.

It's almost as though you are offended. Like if you said you are 10 stone but you are 10 stone 8 pounds so therefore more correct to say 11 stone. That would be a bit of a mean correction to make. This is just facts.

Happy birthday. Cake

SpringtimeBluebells · 18/02/2021 13:32

She is factually correct though. You said an age that you are not

CheeseAndHackers · 18/02/2021 13:32

This is a joke, right?

Scbchl · 18/02/2021 13:32

Almost half a year till you are 25 😂Just say 24!

Mammyloveswine · 18/02/2021 13:32

Yeah it was weird to say that you're 25 when you're 24...

Jackie2022 · 18/02/2021 13:32

Yeah I don’t know why you’d want to round it up either. 25 sounds so old lol, I know it’s not but it almost signals a new chapter in life💔

SleepingStandingUp · 18/02/2021 13:32

Another one who thinks it's odd you lied.

I'd just assume you'd got mistaken (it has been a weird year!) so would say something but in a joking way. If she was snooty then perhaps she thought you were lying to get an advantage??

Leafpile · 18/02/2021 13:33

My birthday is also in july and i also round my age up sometimes when I'm asked, i don't see why that's odd? It's just easier for me to think of it as "I'm x years old this year" and so when someone asks I'll just say the rounded up number. Unless I'm being asked for some kind of official reason, but in those cases they usually just ask for date of birth.

blowonitthen · 18/02/2021 13:34

Your friend wasn't unreasonable.

My 11 year old is 12 in June but he still says he is 11 when asked, because he is.

GoOnTwo · 18/02/2021 13:34

I think it's odd to correct someone like this. I have school friends that shave a few years off and it's not my beeswax.

Really odd of your work "friend". You are in your 25th year, so what if you round up a few months!

MustardMitt · 18/02/2021 13:34

It’s weirder that you said 25. Nearly 25 I can just about get - although ‘nearly’ to me says ‘in the next week’ not ‘in the next six months’! But it’s not harder to say 24 than 25, so why?

amusedbush · 18/02/2021 13:34

Yeah, that's weird. It's fine to say "I'll be 25 on Sunday" but there's still half a year until July!

Bluntness100 · 18/02/2021 13:34

Lol, you’re 24. I’d get it if you were 25 next month, but it’s not like it’s a high pressure situation where you need to think fast and round up.

Is there a reason you wanted to appear older?

purpleme12 · 18/02/2021 13:35

This is such a strange post
She corrected you cos you were wrong 🤣

Mia1415 · 18/02/2021 13:35

You lied, so its not unreasonable that your friend corrected you.

ZZGirl · 18/02/2021 13:35

You're not 25. It's 4/5 months away. You're 24. If your birthday was in a couple of days, yeah I'd get it. But it's not. Don't lie about your age.

itsgettingwierd · 18/02/2021 13:35

You're barely over 24 and a 1/2!!!!

So yes, it's is silly to say 25. And not something who is 24 and mature would do Confused
