To find it odd that she felt the need to correct me

I was asked how old I was at work so I said 25 as I’m 25 in. July. Work fired then say oh you actually 24 not 25. I don’t see what difference it makes as I’m very nearly 25 so simple rounded up.

OP posts:
Anoisagusaris · 18/02/2021 15:08

Very odd. You are 24, not even nearly 25.

There was a thread previously where a poster had some strange method of saying what her children’s ages were based on whether siblings’ birthdays had passed or not.

NewScone · 18/02/2021 15:08

To all the people who round up, does it not confuse people who then think they've missed your 30th birthday somewhere?

NewScone · 18/02/2021 15:09

That is just weird!
RootyT00t · 18/02/2021 15:09

@Bluntness100

She just rounds up in conversation which is perfectly normal

It’s really not. Read the room 😂

I think it is.

I couldn't give a stuff if the room doesn't think it is.

Bluntness100 · 18/02/2021 15:10

I think it is

I think elvis is still alive. I don’t care if the room thinks he’s not 😂

Sparklfairy · 18/02/2021 15:11

Awwww, cute. Kind of like when a mum says, 'DD is 4' in earshot of the DD. DD gets indignant and says 'Noooo, I'm 4 AND A HALF!!!!'

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 18/02/2021 15:11

I'd have corrected you too if I was your friend, and worried that you were getting a bit forgetful or something!

No need to round up your age until you're within about 4 weeks of your birthday, IMO.

NewScone · 18/02/2021 15:12

It's not normal at all.

This is so weird. I'm out.

Allywill · 18/02/2021 15:14

My dad says “I am in my 84th year” which is correct as he is 83. If you had said you were in your 25th year you would have been correct so maybe adopt this if you want to round up. Causes confusion though...and in my experience the only people who want to round up are the very young and very old.

RootyT00t · 18/02/2021 15:14

Which is your right. :)
DimOndCadwAnadlu · 18/02/2021 15:15

My husband is terrible for rounding up. His current "age" is nearly 50 when he speaks to people. He hasn't turned 46 yet!

Whereas I genuinely forget my age and have to think about it...I daren't ask my husband how old I am 😂

coronafiona · 18/02/2021 15:16

It affects min age wages etc?

RootyT00t · 18/02/2021 15:17

@coronafiona

It affects min age wages etc?
Sigh.

OP will have given her date of birth so no it doesn't

AryaStarkWolf · 18/02/2021 15:19

Yeah sorry i would have corrected you too, your 24, July is a long way off

FuckyouCovid21 · 18/02/2021 15:19

Rounding up your age is in no way normal, I can't believe some people think it is...unless it's a week away from your birthday then I'd understand it. But I'd still say I'm xx but will be xx in a week or so

People are weird

cheeseismydownfall · 18/02/2021 15:20

I might round up if my birthday was next week. But why the hell would you round up when it is still months away?

AryaStarkWolf · 18/02/2021 15:20

Anyone remember the thread about a parent who did this with her child and her DH thought she was batshit 🤣

NeedCoffeeToSurvive · 18/02/2021 15:22

I'll be 26 in June, if someone asked me how old I am now I'd say 25. If my birthday was 4 days away, I'd maybe say "I'm turning 26 in 4 days" but it's 4 months away, not even remotely soon.

She asked you how old you were, as in now, not how old will you be later this year. If she wanted to know that she'd probably have asked what age you'll be turning on your next birthday.

BillMasen · 18/02/2021 15:22

@StrangerHereMyself

Are you on minimum wage by any chance OP?
Yep it looks like op tried to lie about her age to get more money (like they wouldn’t check). No wonder your friend corrected you
AndPatraWillNeverSayNever · 18/02/2021 15:22

My husband is terrible for rounding up. His current "age" is nearly 50 when he speaks to people. He hasn't turned 46 yet!

Wouldn't call that rounding up. That's a full on, blatant, shaving-years-off-your-age lie 😅

Bluntness100 · 18/02/2021 15:23

@coronafiona

It affects min age wages etc?
Yes. It’s about fifty p an hour more or something.

There is clearly more to this. No one rounds their birthday uo like this (well apart from rooty) so there is clearly a reason the op wanted the asker to think they were 25.

thevassal · 18/02/2021 15:23

@coastalong YES! I was going to ask if anyone remembered that thread. That was particularly weird because two of her children were always acknowledged as their correct ages but then one (maybe the youngest) automatically moved up a year after their sibling had had their birthday. So dc 3 was born in, say, may, she told anyone who asked between may-July they were the correct age (say 4) but as soon as DC 1 had their bday in August, she started telling everyone DC 3 was five even though they were only 4and 3months because she linked it with the older dc being a year older. It sounds completely bizarre even as I write it but the OP kept coming back to the thread to defend her rationale!!! Confused

No he tells peoole he’s is nearly fifty. When actually he’s 45
SaltyTootsieToes · 18/02/2021 15:24

You’re 24. In July, close to your birthday, you can say you’re 24 but will be 25 soon.
