Was lovingly loading the dish washer this morning (it's fairly new in my life and I love it) and I wondered if my washing machine, tumble dryer and dish washer all broke at the same time, which I would hope to replace first.

I think I might be unreasonable to say the dish washer. It brings me so much joy.

You ?

It’d have to be the washing machine first, then the tumble drier. A dishwasher is a luxury we could manage without, but clean clothes are essential.

Unanananana · 15/02/2021 17:27

Washing machine. It seems to be the only essential one. Tumble driers and dishwashers are 'nice to haves'. I have neither of the other two (never have) so I wouldn't miss them!

LIZS · 15/02/2021 17:34

Washing machine.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 15/02/2021 17:35

Washing machine is essential imo, the others aren't.

After that, tumble dryer.

Our dishwasher broke about 18m ago and were happy to go without.

cardibach · 15/02/2021 17:36

W asking machine. Wouldn’t even be a decision - it’s obvious. I currently don’t have either of the others and haven’t had a tumble dryer for about 20 years.

throwa · 15/02/2021 17:36

Washing machine. Mine broke just before Christmas (great timing...) and I had to hand wash for 4x days (essentials only!) whilst we confirmed that it was terminal (or at least, it would have been a 6w wait at least to get parts). As soon as that was confirmed I immediately went and replaced it and even paid extra for next day delivery. Hand washing is not fun however you spin it (and this was when the kids were at home, imagine trying to wash muddy PE kit or the like!) It also took ages!

Tumble dryer was very useful in drying said hand washed clothes, as obviously they were quite soggy, but they dripped dry on the line outside and then came inside onto an airer.

Dishwasher, whilst I'd replace it asap if it did break, is sadly not a priority. Children can wash and dry dishes to an adequate standard....

cardibach · 15/02/2021 17:37

Washing* stupid iPad.

AnnLouiseB · 15/02/2021 17:37

Washing machine for me. Refluxy baby in cloth nappies = much washing. I wouldn’t fancy attempting to wash by hand all that he generates.

GrolliffetheDragon · 15/02/2021 17:38

Never had a dishwasher or a tumble dryer so that probably gives away my answer.

Washing machine did break down a few years ago, I was online and researching a replacement as soon as I'd finished draining it and had got my sopping wet washing out.

AllMyPrettyOnes · 15/02/2021 17:38

Washing machine without a doubt. What's the point of having a tumble drier without having a washing machine?

We only have a washing machine, anyway.

DowntonCrabby · 15/02/2021 17:39

Washing machine ASAP
tumble drier when I could source a decent second hand one, ours lives in the shed and is used infrequently so not a priority.
We don’t have a dishwasher.

BruceAndNosh · 15/02/2021 17:41

Having been without all three for several months during building work, definitely washing machine

NoIDontWatchLoveIsland · 15/02/2021 17:41

Washing machine.... DD in nappies, nuff said

VanillaAndOrange · 15/02/2021 17:41

Washing machine. It's the only one I've ever had, so if for some strange reason I suddenly had all three, it's definitely the one I'd miss most.

MyLittleOrangutan · 15/02/2021 17:41

Washing machine. I love my dishwasher but I need my washing machine. I dont have a tumble drier, we use a dehumidifier to dry clothes in the house I wouldn't replace that before my washing machine

listsandbudgets · 15/02/2021 17:42

Washing machine without a doubt.

Our dishwasher is broken at the moment and we can't get anyone out until early next week. I'm not pleased but I'd be far far less pleased if I was trying to do all the washing by hand.

I do use the tumble drier but not for every load even at this time of year and in the summer barely at all. Mainly I use it on days I've fallen behind with the washing as it helps to tumble the second load or I end up with a huge mountain of damp washing and no space to hang it.

My washing machine would be missed very very quickly.

simonthedog · 15/02/2021 17:42

Definitely washing machine. Much harder to wash clothes by hand than dishes.

MadeOfStarStuff · 15/02/2021 17:44

Washing machine 100%

I don’t even have a dish washer (but would if I had the choice)

bigpricklyfern · 15/02/2021 17:45

I love all three, but without a doubt it would have to be a washing machine. I couldn’t get clothes properly clean handwashing them, whereas I could just about cope without the other two.

VinylDetective · 15/02/2021 17:46

After I stopped crying I’d be off to look for a 0% interest deal and replace all three. Life would be an absolute pain without any of them.

GranaryBread47 · 15/02/2021 17:56

Washing machine, then tumble dryer, then dishwasher. I'd much rather do some washing up by hand than wash 4 kids and 2 adults' clothes by hand and find space to hang them up inside.

BaggoMcoys · 15/02/2021 17:58

Washing machine definitely. I can wash dishes by hand until I get a dishwasher. I know I can hand wash clothes but it's much more of a job. I'm not keen on tumble driers so probably wouldn't replace that one.

WishIWasAsGoodAsBlueysMum · 15/02/2021 17:58

Washing machine. Without a doubt. One in cloth nappies full time, and one in night nappies means it’s pretty much essential. Tumble drier is lovely to have but we could get by with the heated airer and outdoor line. I’ve not had dishwasher since I left home 10 years ago and when Ruth stay with my parents or PIL I find it a bit of a faff.

NeverWillIEver · 15/02/2021 17:58

@Londonmummy66

I like your thinking ! I think I'd do the same.

@thecatsthecats that sounds amazing.

Washing machine. I don't own a dryer and it's easier to wash dishes by hand than clothes.
