AIBU to think all Mumsnetters are on top of life admin

Just that really, it's been a bit hectic lately and I feel like I have fallen behind on stuff. I read some threads for tips on here and most MN'ers responses were quite scathing towards those who weren't on top of life admin which to be honest, made me feel like a bit of a failure. Is everyone on here on top of everything and always goes on comparison sites to check all their quotes etc? The amount of form filling just fills me with dread and sends me on a procrastination loop (which is why I am here typing this probably)...... for those who are on top of it, when do you do it?

@Southern
Basically yes, to all of those.
We made Wills when DC1 was born and we'd just bought our first house. I was late teens and DH was early twenties and we've kept on top of them as we had more children, assets etc.
Same with life insurances.
We both always kept an eye on finances, pensions etc however for a while now we have also paid for financial management so I appreciate this makes things easier.

Reading some of the things on peoples lists, I think a lot I just don't count as 'life admin' and as I said before things are so much easier than they used to be so it doesn't feel like a chore anymore.
Also most of the things I take care of all need doing at the same time, the date we moved in. So that's a busy few days but then it's done for the rest of the year or more depending on contract lengths.

I am sure it takes 3 minutes for some people to organise their kids' birthday (or partner's birthday). Browse amazon, book a local place, buy a supermarket cake, done.

It takes me a hell of a lot longer than that, just researching various venues or activities, contacting them to check availability, and checking various cake makers, ordering party bags and invitations.

It's fine, it's worth doing, and no one is asking for a tiny violin Hmm
It takes time though.

Same way as having a shower or exercising takes time during the day. Being factual about it doesn't mean anyone is complaining.

I think by doing a little each day. And dealing with forms or requests as they come in. Eg when the DC are at school immediately filling in forms and paying for trips, adding enough lunch money for a set period so we know when to top up.
Most bills on direct debit, check online banking a few times a week.
I am lucky though that I have a job where I can make calls or quickly do these bits at lunchtime.
Also ensure all paperwork/docs are filed to find quickly if required.

So far today: register new credit card which involved registering for online banking.

Need to do: work out how to get money out of an ISA to pay off a chunk of our mortgage, work out how to get money from another savings account into a new ISA. Send back some clothes to Decathlon. Go to the bank (or possibly the ATM outside the Sainsbury's Local) to change the PIN on the new credit card. Message childminder to confirm booking for Friday. Pay childminder if I have enough vouchers. Look at online escape room for my birthday do and message all the friends who've replied*

(*I was thinking about a murder mystery but my friend who's a Detective Inspector says she would feel too much shame if she couldn't solve it, but I reckon she'd just be really annoyed by it).

southern wills, guardianship, LPAs were done as soon as I had children at 35. Funeral wishes too...as I'm not having a funeral service etc, very simple to do.
Redid my will when I divorced and again when I remarried.
I am very organised as it keeps me calm! At one point I was selling a house, buying another and also renting one which took some doing.

drspouse · 17/02/2021 15:03

Now I have to add "contact bank to ask why new credit card won't add to Google pay on my phone"...

@LucasLeesEyebrows - how can you claim finding the best new insurance policy is a 2 minute job ? confused

I don't think I've even spent less than 2 hours sorting my next year's car insurance.
Seriously? You go on Go compare and get a quote. Your current insurance will send you a renewal quote a couple of weeks before the insurance expires. You ring up and say that it is an outrageous sum of money they are asking! How ridiculous! They then say we can do it for much cheaper. Look at your Go compare quotes, see what current insurance have backed down to. Job done! It certainly doesn't take hours.

Life admin is just another way of saying doing adult jobs.
If you are sensible you wil put a reminder in your phone 2 weeks before quotes run out as well as your tax and insurance. Other things like TVs license are just on arolling direct debit.
Cancel any unnecessary subscription s to keep life simple..

Life admin is very difficult when you have adhd as i do.

Things that other people find easy like remembering to write things down, the actual thought processes just aren't there etc

I have got better but then dp helps me a lot, my ex was useless and left me to do everything including sorting his shit out.
