In fairness to the OP, although this is a old story, Fallon has come back into the recent news cycle/twitter feed as part of the issues arising from Biden's recent executive order which allows athletes to take part as their identified gender in high school and college sports.

Fallon's tweet on Friday was blaming TERFs. Shockingly.

Probably for the best Grin

VasterThanEmpires · 14/02/2021 20:04

this really is it: I’d rather teach my kid how to lose well than how to win through oppression

Isn't that just basically the dictionary definition of patriarchy? Teaching girls to 'lose well' to boys? Angry

Fembot123 · 14/02/2021 20:04

Just googled them and I’m heavier 😨😂 No way would I have dared to fight someone transgender and for their opponent not to be told and given that informed choice is all kinds of wrong.

TriflePudding · 14/02/2021 20:05

Men are physically stronger than women
Hence the thousands of years of inequality, oppression, rapes and control

I thought this was worth repeating. Most of us who know damn well how easily men can overpower women, and it’s either naivety or foolishness to think that women could fight men and win.

MissLucyEyelesbarrow · 14/02/2021 20:12

@Fembot123

This is MMA not boxing, not the same thing at all. I just read that her opponent didn’t know Fallon was transgender?? That’s not fair at all.
If MMA is anything like kickboxing, you don't know who you will be up against in bouts until the last minute. It's not like you can research your opponents or object to them (even if you were allowed to object without being branded a terf). You fight 4 opponents in a competition, and who they are is determined by who wins other bouts - you can't predict.

If you are concerned about women's safety in martial arts, please respond to this call for views link. Kickboxing is adopting an 'inclusive' policy but - guess what - it has only consulted trans rights' organisations. No one has asked the people who will actually be affected - women.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 14/02/2021 20:15

Apologies if this has already been said but it's 9 pages now and if I read through all of them I might become so incensed that I can't write this

  1. It is awful, and risks becoming 'mainstream' like boxing...
  2. How can boxing be an 'Olympic sport'?
  3. How can it even be a sport to deliberately try to hurt someone.
  4. I'm going back to my corner now.
A poor reflection of the world we live in... Sad

Thank you for your fucking excellent post an hour ago. Yes. Yes. Yes.

And rather excellent user name too.

WeAreJackieWeaver · 14/02/2021 20:15

MissLucy I've just looked at that link. Its from the SAFEGUARDING officer! How can they safeguard women in martial arts if they allow males to enter and compete against women? This is insane.

Impatiens · 14/02/2021 20:17

it’s either naivety or foolishness to think that women could fight men and win

Or something a lot worse than naivety/foolishness - misogyny.

Fembot123 · 14/02/2021 20:20

Anyone got a link to the fight being discussed as I can only find two, one where Fallon gets knocked out and another when they get totally dominated by their female opponent.

Fembot123 · 14/02/2021 20:20

But Fallon has been beaten by women 🤔
Fembot123 · 14/02/2021 20:23

I’m not sure @MissLucyEyelesbarrow, In the level I was we knew who our opponent was going to be but going up into the proper leagues I don’t know it could well be the same. I used to love wrestling men but wrestling and being smashed in the skull are very different things 😁 I’ll check out your link, thanks.

Volcanoexplorer · 14/02/2021 20:23

This is just horrific. How is this even legal!

GiveMyRegardsToYourLizard · 14/02/2021 20:28

There was a female athlete who had their sex questioned and it was demanded that their hormones were tested and it transpired that their testosterone was higher than the usual female therefore their ability to partake against other women was brought into question.

Yet in the sport mentioned in the OP, you just have to dress like a woman to get in?

And then not only beat women but celebrate breaking their bones after?

How fucked up is that?

MissLucyEyelesbarrow · 14/02/2021 20:28

I mainly participated outside the UK, so it may be different here. But, either way - as you say - there is a massive difference between choosing to fight a man (and him choosing to fight a woman) versus having it forced on you in a competition.
Cam77 · 14/02/2021 20:31

Obviously don’t agree with this, but you do all realize that this person’s last fight was 7 years ago, right? And even the CEO of MMA came out six/seven ago and said they’d made a mistake.

Cam77 · 14/02/2021 20:32

it’s either naivety or foolishness to think that women could fight men and win

Fallon was beaten by a woman one fight. Fallon hasn’t now fought for seven years.

toocold54 · 14/02/2021 20:40

Not read everyone else’s replies but I read that she didn’t disclose that she was transgender (due to worrying about being judged) and the commentator of the matches has been vocal about it since finding out as he thinks it’s unacceptable to fight born females.

SpudsandGravy · 14/02/2021 20:44

Absolutely insane.

JoannaDory · 14/02/2021 20:48

Well it certainly exposes both the bollocks that TWAW and the level of hatred felt for women. I hope the Twitter accounts of women journalists are red hot with people flagging this to them.

Does this "sport" have a governing body? If so they should be slapped with a corporate manslaughter suit, I find it hard to believe this was the first time this lovely person had expressed those views.

Smallgoon · 14/02/2021 20:48

@Imapotato

I’m all for supporting the rights of transgender people. So this is a really tough area. I do though think that in sport ( if you can call this a sport) people who started their life as biological males will have an unfair strength advantage, and therefore they put people who are biologically female in danger if they are allowed to compete against them. So no I don’t think it should be allowed.
I'm in agreement despite not being a rabid feminist/anti trans as quite a lot of MN posters appear to be...

I just can't see how this can be allowed. Horrible pics.

BrumBoo · 14/02/2021 20:52

how do you think your views differ from the so-called 'rabid feminists/anti-trans posters you see on mumsnet? what is it you think their views are?

PotholeParadies · 14/02/2021 20:56

If you do a bit of googling, the woman who beat Fox was in her late twenties, whereas Fox was nearly 40.

That might be why. Now think about how someone fast approaching 40 managed to launch any kind of MMA career. Hmm Rhona Rousey retired from MMA at 30. Conor McGregor initially retired at 31. He's gone back, but I don't think he'll be doing it at nearly 40. You get injured more easily, your reaction speed decreases, and it takes longer to recover.
