This is a handy guide as to why men do not belong in women’s sports

Men punch 162% harder than women of the same weight. As I said earlier, fighting a man the same weight as me is nothing like fighting a woman. It's no longer a match of skill, any more than pitting a man against a Toyota Yaris would be.

Perfectly put.

BernardBlackMissesLangCleg · 15/02/2021 13:23

There will be a fatal blow in boxing, or a fatal tackle in Rugby. It WILL happen

and in the meantime thousands of women will have made a decision to step away from their sports.

I don't think people realise that women's sport has only really been a thing for about 80 years. Much less in the case of some sports. Women fought for the right to play sport, for the resources.

and now men are stepping in and taking it away. and some of the women on this site are applauding while they do it.

for shame

Smallgoon · 15/02/2021 13:24

I just find it interesting that people are so quick to asert that males would outperform women in absolutely everything. They wouldn't. Lionel Messi probably wouldn't stand a chance in a fight against a woman much bigger and much heavier than him - say Mrs Trunchball from Matilda etc. Yes, the height/weight difference is relevant according to the posters posting pics, and clearly amplifying this point.

I don't know enough about this Fallon character to judge. I don't know how long they trained to be an MMA fighter, or indeed any type of martial arts. If they transitioned, and then soon after became an MMA fighter (circa 2013) and then fought female MMA fighters (fighters very experienced in martial arts) who were same weight/height etc - I can't see how Fallon has an advantage.

I don't watch MMA. Any sport which allows you to enter a ring and break the opposing player's limbs/skull etc for me is sadistic and not entertainment. But I understand some people do enjoy watching MMA. My brother for example who watches both male and female fights. He wouldn't ever dream of stepping into a ring with a female MMA fighter because he'd get the living daylights kicked out of him. He's 5'10 and 12 stone. I doubt he'd be willing to step into a ring with a 5'6 female MMA fighter.

And in the case of women's football in the UK, it got too popular early last century so the FA banned women's teams from using FA grounds.

ShotgunShack · 15/02/2021 13:25

Sex = massive and permanent differences between males and females (from childhood) in

Speed
Strength
Muscle reflex time
Limb length and reach
Hip and pelvis shape and function
Bone density

Plus effects of hormones, pregnancy and maternity that only impacts female physiology.

All of the above will favor males above females in physical sport.

The differences within sex categories for physical sports (so eg men competing against men) can be varied and wide. In some sports that is why we categorize by sex and ALSO weight.

The differences between the two sexes are so huge and largely so insurmountable that is why we have sex categories separating them in the first place.

Also women fought for their own sporting sex categories. It was never a given and never ever should be taken for granted (sadly).

MyLittleOrangutan · 15/02/2021 13:25

MMA is a really brutal sport but it's also weighted so I dont see how much difference it would make, I do a different, slightly less brutal martial art but I can take on a male my size and skill level.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 15/02/2021 13:25

Yes @Biscuitsanddoombar The basic facts that have been researched for decades and never varied.

The basic facts as taught in all physiology classes.

The basic facts, the exceptions, caveats and outliers all come from those basic facts.

To date those basic facts are immutable!

Wanting to be seen as a special case is not supported by those basic facts!

That is a great info sheet. Sums it up very well indeed. How could anyone read that and think it's ok for a born male to compete in women's sports?

Oh behave!

If apples were oranges... or imaginary friends.

You say you are uninformed. You are right!

I can't see how Fallon has an advantage. Sums up the extent to which you remain disingenuous or cmpletely bereft of all physiologicial knowledge.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 15/02/2021 13:29

It’s a brutal sport, this was inflicted by a female born opponent. I’m thinking it’s dangerous enough without introducing male born opponents in to it.

Precisely.

SummerBlondey · 15/02/2021 13:29

I can't see how Fallon has an advantage

Fucking hell.

Neron · 15/02/2021 13:30

I think we are going to lose more women from martial arts, if things continue as they are.
There aren't that many women as it is, and it is hard to get women to join. I now only do Brazilian jiu-jitsu and there are concerns over trans athletes, which are getting louder and nastier.

I don't think there is a fair or easy way to work this out. People get upset with unisex toilets, or TP in changing rooms. When it comes to contact sports, the mixing is dangerous.

I work on the basis then when someone’s entire case rests on not understanding facts they’ll continue to not understand them for reasons Grin

They are not selecting passing male members of the public to throw into the ring with female MMA fighters. The trans women in the ring ARE ALSO MMA TRAINED FIGHTERS

I don't think I've ever encountered someone with such massive blinkers on.

PotholeParadies · 15/02/2021 13:32

and in the meantime thousands of women will have made a decision to step away from their sports.

I would be out at the speed of light. I love martial arts and I've been doing it for years. But I muck around in low level competitions for personal fulfillment and desire for self-improvement, not because I'm expecting to be picked for the Olympics. If there is a serious risk of me sustaining anything more than some nasty bruises and a muscle sprain, I'm not taking part any more. No woman with a mortgage or childcare responsibilities is going to be.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 15/02/2021 13:33

That is out and out wrong. A man is 162% stronger than a woman of an equivalent size. Lionel Messi is 170 cm tall, so to be of equal strength, a woman would need to be 275 cm tall, i.e. 9 ft.

Helmetbymidnight · 15/02/2021 13:34

I think you're stepping into territory with dangerous implications when your argument is that most women can't compete with most men, so just concede when physicality is involved.

can you explain this pls.

you believe womens only sports are in dangerous territory?
however men who identify as women playing in womens sports will take us out of that "dangerous territory"?

you cant mean this, can you?

I find it perfectly easy and fair to insist that males compete in the male sex category
But they are no longer identifying as males for a start, and secondly, they won't be allowed to compete with the males if they are now 'female'.

If we create a group for TP, we are effectively ostracising them. If we start saying ok, you ID as female, but you can't go in to female sports, then they are excluded. If we say OK join, it is dangerous to the biological females. There is no winner.
