MMA is a multi-disciplinary sport which requires, at it's best, supreme fitness and skill.

Fallon isn't interested in or capable of that. Fallon just wants to punish women for Fallon's own inadequacies and resentment issues. Fallon can be summed up thus:
If it didn't already exist there would be no need to or benefit in inventing it.

If I say what I really think of Fallon I'll get banned. I'm sure you all get the gist though.

Very interesting that this particular issue of transwomen in Women's sports seems to be where a lot of people draw the line in their sympathies with trans activism.

334bu · 14/02/2021 23:22

Women's sport is becoming more and more financially attractive. There are more and more professional female athletes making a living from their sport. In the States female sport scholarships are the only way many women can afford a university education. The athlete in the clip upthread is now going to Harvard on a female track scholarship. South American female professional football teams and volleyball teams now have male players. Even in the Paralympics a former male athlete now 46 years of age has extended his athletic career by joining the female international and will represent Italy in Tokyo

Second clip on this thread. Indifferent male athlete changes to female sports and hey presto!.

You have to be blind to ignore this. That poor woman who lost that scholarship! Sad
SheldonesqueIsUnwell · 14/02/2021 23:39

This is not sport.

It is not sporting to compete against someone at a distinct disadvantage to you.

It is definitely not sport to break someone’s skull.

Does someone have to die before the differences are addressed? Or are we still expected to believe that the person who inflicted the injury is the same as the victim of the injury?

Because I cannot accept that this was sporting.

Or sport.

Just legalised battery of someone who is physically significantly weaker.

Matt Wallaert on twitter this weekend tweeted

^As a social psychologist, I understand why using women’s sports to argue against transgender rights works. But it is tough to imagine a more morally bankrupt position: “I’m going to make you sit in a gender that doesn’t fit you so my daughter can win her soccer game.”*

He clarified that he has taught his daughter that she should be happy to lose to a male because they have been included. The study from Dr Emma Hilton and Tommy Lundberg used data collected in both Australia and Greece and concluded that even from a young age males show biological advantages over females. They are still faster, stronger with different types of muscles, lung capacity...

People like this Social psychologist are merely perpetuating the oppression of women and girls. Telling her to be kind and not to object when someone who has biological advantages and maybe even again, those superior opportunities of training etc, is also just telling her to suck up any discomfort she feels about the situation. And also merely perpetuating female socialisation.

StapMe · 14/02/2021 23:51

I'll get flamed but.....I don't understand transgender stuff at all. If you're born with XX chromosomes then you're female, and XY makes you male. Wasn't this is how they decided the sex of those very few children whose genitals were a bit ambiguous? So you want to live as the opposite sex? Firstly, I feel sorry for you, how hard must it be not to accept how you were born? People have what I can only imagine must be painful surgery and all sorts because that feel they were born in the wrong body. But at the end of the day you have XX or XY chromosomes and you are what you are. So, by and large, an XY chromosome person should not be competing against an XX one. There are some sports where the generally superior strength etc of XY people against XX people may not count (horse sports? skiing?) but fighting ain't one of them. So this XY person should not be fighting XX persons.

Winesalot · 14/02/2021 23:57

Chromosomes are sometimes not reliable for telling sex though. Some people have medical conditions that mean their chromosomes are different. However, with modern medicine doctors can tell a person’s sex by looking at other things too, including genitals, reproductive organs, hormones and other sex characteristics.

However, no male who has had the benefits of puberty should be competing against females in any sport where males have an advantage. If has been shown with research that those advantages still largely remain even with lowered testosterone.

No advantage?

No advantage for the littler one.

Oh! Is it time to bring out the ‘but tall women’ have advantages too, and run through the list ....

But a picture saves a 1000 words doesn’t it?

I don’t like MMA /fighting sports anyway.

May as well make all sports unisex if you are going to allow this.

@BeautifulStar

But they’re living as a female, hence the male or female comment."

What is 'living as a female?' How does one do this living as a female thingy?

Yes, wearing dresses and makeup and surgically removing your penis (no idea if FF has had surgery btw) do not mean you are “living as a woman”. You are simply a man in makeup and a dress with no penis who wants to pretend they are a woman and expects everyone else to pretend also.
I am all for people expressing themselves through the way they present their outward appearance but not when it starts to impinge on women’s right and safety.

95% plus of transwomen have a penis. The very very vast majority do not have it removed. This is a figure that needs repeating and repeating. And what the fuck does living as a woman mean???? I want to know in case I'm doing it wrong.

Very interesting that this particular issue of transwomen in Women's sports seems to be where a lot of people draw the line in their sympathies with trans activism.
It should be brought to the attention of all MPs and MSPs.
Smallgoon · 15/02/2021 01:46

Would the people in this thread disgusted by the skull fracture, be just as disgusted if it was at the hands of a cis woman? I only ask because it seems a lot of you aren't aware of the lack of rules around MMA fighting. It is utterly horrific full stop. Female fighters have broken other female fighters arms during these fights, as this is allowed within the rules. The rules stipulate that until somebody "taps out" they are fair game.

Seems that the disgust is solely because a trans woman won the fight, rather than the fact that MMA is a vile contact sport which shouldn't exist full stop.

Smallgoon · 15/02/2021 01:54

@Ohthatoldchestnut

Firstly, the injury picture is not unusual for MMA - for women or men. It's an extremely brutal sport (far far more than boxing) with an enormous amount of money involved - and all press is press. The women MMA fighters are extremely tough, strong and capable and it's doing a disservice to them to say they don't stand a chance against Fallon. This is fundamentally not a matter of a man beating up a woman. This is not a simple issue. The timing of the transition seems to count a lot - Fallon had been a fully developed male for some time so the usual effect of the HRT would not deplete strength/bone density to the same extent as if transition happened as a younger person. There's no certainty that the transgender athlete has an advantage. Sports medics are very much assessing this in order to regulate it better and I imagine it will end up needing individual assessments of key criteria. In the same way you have weight categories for boxing, you may be able to have assessments that determine the advantage or not of a transgender athlete. Let's not fall back on the old political correctness/woke vs intolerance/transphobic blunt thinking - and look more at the science.
Spot on.
Impatiens · 15/02/2021 01:55

Please don't use the word 'cs' to describe Women, @Smallgoon*, it's completely unnecessary and wrong.

Helenia · 15/02/2021 01:58

Seems that the disgust is solely because a trans woman won the fight, rather than the fact that MMA is a vile contact sport which shouldn't exist full stop.

You'll find the concern is that a male bodied person was allowed to participate in women's sport and beat a woman to a pulp small goon. As men are generally stronger than women, women stand little chance of protecting themselves from serious damage when forced to compete against them. The fact that it is a dangerous sport is even more reason that no male, no matter how they identify, should be fighting against biological women. Women's safeguards should not be thrown out the window in order to validate the feelings and identities of transwomen.

Impatiens · 15/02/2021 01:59

Female sports belong to females - Women and Girls. They shouldn't have to forfeit their place at any level because a male-born person wants to take it, that's totally wrong and unfair.

This is absoutely disgusting. It's a horrible sport, anyway, but in these kinds of sports it is so important that there are clear regulations that include protecting the necessary sex-segregration of almost all sports to ensure fairness for women competing.
