Window open at night and it’s freezing

My DP doesn’t like to be hot at night, fair enough. But it’s -8°c outside and he has the window open, our bedroom is like an igloo. We still have the thin duvet on our bed so he doesn’t get hot, I have a blanket and a hot water bottle but I just don’t sleep well in a freezing bedroom.
So AIBU - it’s healthier to have the window open at night
Or AINBU - it’s winter!

Jesus! When I got up at 730am this morning it was -9c! Why on earth would you have a window open overnight?

crumble82 · 11/02/2021 23:12

To be honest the room and I are both warming up nicely as I snuck out of bed to shut the window. He’ll sleep just fine now he’s dropped off

Why don't you just have separate rooms?

Justgorgeous · 11/02/2021 23:13

Window open, 4.5 tog duvet and always sleep naked. Can’t stand being hot at night. Hearing comes on at 6am downstairs only.

YesPleaseMary · 11/02/2021 23:14

Definitely get a thicker duvet for you OP. Short term solution, have you got a sleeping bag?
I’m jealous of all the hot people. I’ve got fleece pyjamas, a winter duvet, an extra blanket and a hot water bottle. No way is my window being opened, it was -12 here last night.

crumble82 · 11/02/2021 23:15

To those asking about separate rooms, not an option while I’m working from home. We bought a sofa bed for the office but it’s not particular comfortable. Nights will get warmer soon anyway...I hope!

I'm like most here, I always have the window open at least a crack and the heating off in all weather. why are your needs and wants more important? It's easier to warm up than it is to cool down, so YABU

RinkyD · 11/02/2021 23:16

I dont like to be harsh on my own sex but Ffs...My husband keeps the window open, I’m freezing, he wont let me get a duvet. On another thread the man I am dating (basically sharing) is sending me snap chats of another woman he is with..should i end it. WTF is happening to women, its got to stop.

C8H10N4O2 · 11/02/2021 23:18

Electric blanket with dual controls. He needn't use his side and yours can be on all night.

Or seperate rooms. Or both.

SunnyCoco · 11/02/2021 23:19

If you do the separate duvet option, get a double not a single and use your current bedding.
If you each have a double you can both sausage roll as you see fit! Perfect

Mrsmadevans · 11/02/2021 23:19

We always have the window open , l can't sleep without fresh air coming in . I have an electric blanket though Grin

@YesPleaseMary Gosh, I’m sweating just reading that. 🤣

How does he find the sofa bed? I have a cheap sofa bed and it's comfy for me.

If he's all right then he can sleep there?

Seems dreadful to be so cold. My bedroom is about 20c with no heating on. I wonder what the temp is in your room?

NiceGerbil · 11/02/2021 23:21

Why does he have a duvet?

I always had a sheet. He wants to be snuggly. If he has a sheet he can have the window open only a crack.

FWIW I was a radiator person something terrible. Still am mostly but perimenopausal. For the first time a few months back I understood what 'my hands are chilled to the bone' felt like! And it's not nice.

Neither way is right or better but if there's a radiator and a fridge there needs to be compromise. Why the fuck has he got a duvet? Would be my question.

SnarkyBag · 11/02/2021 23:22

I prefer the window open but I keep getting guilted by bloody sad lurcher eyes. If I keep it open I wake up on the edge of the bed with said lurcher wedged up against me for extra body heat.

Fuckitsstillraining · 11/02/2021 23:22

So he insists on the window open and then he steals the cover so he can roll up in it? That's a LTB scenario for sure.

FortunesFave · 11/02/2021 23:22

I am like your DH....I literally feel trapped and miserable with windows shut. I have been known to happily sleep through gale force winds and rain coming in on my face as I lie beneath an open window.

But as others say, two duvets...

NiceGerbil · 11/02/2021 23:24

'To be honest the room and I are both warming up nicely as I snuck out of bed to shut the window. He’ll sleep just fine now he’s dropped off'

You see if I'm too hot I have nightmares and wake up.

I also would have a sheet not a duvet.

I think he's taking the piss tbh.

ScottishStottie · 11/02/2021 23:25

Have you posted about this before?

Im sure theres been a similar post recently that started with an open window, but as more info appearedm, the dh was more and more unreasonable with lots of dickish behaviour...

Chutneywashisname · 11/02/2021 23:25

I also think it's a shame all the cries for compromise are at OP's expense not her partners

How can her partner compromise? If he likes a cold room and the window open, what do you suggest - ice in the bed?
If someone is too cold, they can layer on duvets, pjs, socks, hotwater bottles?

I like the windows open and a cold room. I'm pretty sure I'm perimenopausal. DH keeps putting the heating on at night, and keeps trying to close the windows which means I wake up sweating, have a poor night's sleep and am exhausted in the morning.
I throw off the duvet but I am still uncomfortably hot.

MagentaDoesNotExist · 11/02/2021 23:27

@pickingdaisies

Just saw your update about him nicking the duvet. You need a shovel and a new patio
This. Expecting you to sleep with a window open in -8 is a divorceable offence at the very least!
FortunesFave · 11/02/2021 23:27

Hee hee. Grin

RootyT00t · 11/02/2021 23:28

Oh I'm in sympathy with him.

I get really irritated and feel unwell if I'm too hot, I've always been like it.
My ex used to blast the heatings and not open the windows and I just couldn't handle it.

Can you have separate duvets?

NiceGerbil · 11/02/2021 23:28

He could start by just having a sheet which is what I've always done as a radiator person...

And he sleeps just fine under his duvet if she closes the window after he's asleep....

Which I don't. As a radiator person I have nightmares and wake if I'm too hot.

Nah. He's just having things how he likes them and I can't see a compromise on his part. A duvet! Come on...
