to think that Jackie Weaver is a hero to feminism?

Because I refuse to believe that those appalling men would have spoken to another man the way they attempted to shout her down. She handled herself so beautifully.

Frankly I think she deserves to be Dame Jackie Weaver for services to common sense!

I actually spent time yesterday watching the planning sub committee meeting which immediately preceded the infamous meeting. She muted the ejected the ‘clerk’ (not
Clerk) and Alan’s iPad pair) hence anger etc.
Also understood more. Some kind of investigation going on for 6mknths and possible linked vacancy on pcc. JW had been brought in to ensure meeting were conducted and conducted properly. An enforcer. And she enforced. Beginning of first meeting hilarious with very British chitchat between jw and Roger.
Still totally confused about ‘absent from meetings but no meetings were held but that’s no defence’ point.
Cynthia and Sue both talk so much sense ! John
Smith nice but pretty out of his depth it felt to me.
Far far too invested in this. Funniest thing seen for ages.

AStudyinPink · 07/02/2021 07:04

She confused control of zoom with control of meeting .

Hadn’t she been brought in to control the meeting?

Let’s be honest: in a professional meeting it is NOT ‘just as bad’ to be calm, collected and in control as it is to start screaming at others. That is behaviour that needs to be stopped.

HeronLanyon · 07/02/2021 07:07

Alan should read aled I think.
Also beginning of the prior meeting jw does amazing hair flicks and clothing adjustments before anyone else in the meeting. Kind of stuff we all do. The hair flick is great. Bet she does it before she meets Anton du bek (or however you spell his name).

What a hateful man he is......

skodadoda · 07/02/2021 07:14

@Viviennemary

It's for the electorate to decide who represents them at meetings. Not Jackie Weaver.
They had not had any meetings since March 2020 so the electorate were hardly being represented. As was their right, two councillors had asked for a meeting. The dreadful chairman was trying to stop it happening.

PinkyParrot · 07/02/2021 07:34

It's for the electorate to decide who represents them at meetings. Not Jackie Weaver.

But much of the electorate can't be arsed when it comes to local councils and you end up with loud mouthed bullies like appeared on the video.

AuntieMarysCanary · 07/02/2021 07:35

The men's behaviour was appalling.

But Jackie is only a clerk- whose role it is to take minutes- and she didn't have the authority to cut people out of the meeting, whatever anyone says.

Both men behaved appalling but she did all she could to escalate the situation .
If she was in charge she should of defused and controlled the situation.
He wasn't even allowed to finish his first sentence before she interrupted and talked over him. As you saw his frustration build she upped the pressure .
poking a bear springs to mind

From my point of view it's men v women it's about how individuals behaved some shouting being aggressive and some going out of there way to inflame the situation.

AStudyinPink · 07/02/2021 07:38

But isn’t the role of the clerk to ensure the business of the council is conducted properly? How is screaming at people in any way ‘proper’? How can a meeting happen like that?

This is ‘now look what you made me do’ - nobody should be screaming at others. And if you are talking about the second bloke (Gollum), I thought she was speaking and he interrupted her. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Sniggering at him claiming the recording were "hooky videos" and have been faked in some way.

HeronLanyon · 07/02/2021 07:42

auntie not 100% sure her exact remit from ‘Cheshire pccs’ but it was connected the i vesitgation and empty position itself connected with those mens’ anger.
Also previous planning meeting I was really surprised how quickly she muted and ejected tolver and the ‘brewerton 2’ and how little comment there was. Seemed all present expected that to happen.
Hence infuriated tolver and younger brewerton at that second infamous meeting.
Lots not able to be spoken about due to the long running Investigation by ‘Cheshire east’
Btw - next meeting is I think Feb 17 th 🤣 booked my seat.

YouJustDoYou · 07/02/2021 07:43

Absolutely. These men are used to be too dog. They're used to always having the say, used to no little woman speaking over them. I unfortunately lived in villages for several decades and the older men were ALL like those men in the video. I hated it. But other men absolutely support them in their infantile behaviour, you only have to look at the misogynistic comments in the daily fail to see that.

Pyewhacket · 07/02/2021 07:45

As was their right, two councillors had asked for a meeting. The dreadful chairman was trying to stop it happening.

He was questioning Jackie Weaver's authority at that meeting. The Proper Officer thing was a red herring but to exclude The Chairman and The Deputy Chairman like she did WAS in contravention of the Standing Rules. You then have to adjourn the meeting and elect a new chair/person but you have to include ALL members of the Prarish council in that process. You can't elect a Chair while excluding other members of the council. That will make any decisions invalid. She was there to adjudicate on the conduct of the meeting. She wasn't there to make execute decisions of who was excluding from electing a Chair.

Did you miss the backstory? The Chairman hadn't been holding meetings since March and she had been called in by other councillors to address this and reports of bullying and misogyny. It wasn't just a standard meeting where someone went rogue...
WizardOfAus · 07/02/2021 07:51

Unbelievably, Sarah Vine in the Daily Mail has the best description of Jackie and the idiots she had to deal with.

Women such as Jackie are the sanity and the backbone of this country. They may not be as glamorous or as well groomed as the ones who sit on boards or bear fancy titles or hold the ears of Ministers. But in some ways that makes them all the more impressive. Because they do what they do not out of ambition or desire for recognition (just as well, really, since rarely is any forthcoming), but out of a genuine sense of moral duty.

Make no mistake: it’s not the Brian Tolvers or Aled Brewertons of this world who get things done. They’re not the ones who get the lock fixed on the disabled toilets in the Town Hall, or who make sure Mrs Featherington gets a lift to her hospital appointment. Oh no, such petty irrelevancies are not for them. They’re far too busy wafting around on an over-inflated balloon of their own pomposity, reminding everyone how important and in-charge they are.

I fully get your point but when your in charge even if people are being arseholes you mange and defuse the situation not make it worse.

When dealing with conflict the first thing you do is listen let them get there point across then deal .
I'm not defending them but some of the things she did was just pouring petrol on the fire .

I don’t think so. Those men were hostile from the off and disrupting the legitimate business of the meeting. I would need to see the whole context to know whether they had reason to be angry, but their conduct was a disgrace.

skodadoda · 07/02/2021 08:08

@CrisisManagement

The next meeting:

Jackie takes a back seat and barely features. Not quite as fun as the first and they seem to have the technology sorted a bit more now. They still all have their cameras scarily close to the top half of their heads though.

I have a theory that Cyn and Sue don't like each other...

For those who can manage to sit through this, it shows very clearly what has been going on in the parish council.
CaveMum · 07/02/2021 08:09

There’s a parody Twitter account which is, amongst dropping hints that various council members are major crime lords, putting up suggestions for who should play who in the Netflix version of the meeting Wink

Handle is @TheJackieWeaver

I 100% agree with you about the 2 men ,but talking over people, interrupting people ,not letting them get there point across (no matter how wrong) and being defensive will not deescalate conflict.

It was her role to deescalate it I honestly don't think she made any attempt to do that.

MyKingdomForACaramel · 07/02/2021 08:19

The last paragraph of this report tells me exactly what type of people they are. “I suggest you keep very quiet as we are lawyers”. Hmm

Is there a video of the meeting just before the viral one?
The one Brian Tolver refers to right at the beginning?
Seems there is, but I can't find it! Watched January...

HeronLanyon · 07/02/2021 08:24

Yes the planning sub committee meeting (which immediately precedes the infamous meeting) is on you tube. Will see if I can find the link.
