Because I refuse to believe that those appalling men would have spoken to another man the way they attempted to shout her down. She handled herself so beautifully.

Frankly I think she deserves to be Dame Jackie Weaver for services to common sense!

OP posts:
BlueThistles · 07/02/2021 03:48

Those men.... should be utterly ashamed of themselves 🌺

MyBeloved · 07/02/2021 03:54

I would have muted them all, arrogant bastards.

Tinkerbell456 · 07/02/2021 04:01

Jackie Weaver the opera😂. Great voices too!

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 07/02/2021 04:37

Jackie Weaver was amazing, but she doesn't have to put up with the arseholes on a regular basis like Sue Moore does.

So for that reason, Sue deserves more of a medal for dealing with the wankers regularly and still being able to hold onto her dignity and professionalism, unlike the bullyboy males.

Graciebobcat · 07/02/2021 04:52

It also shows the benefit of Zoom/Teams meetings. Not so easy to mute people or chuck them out of a meeting IRL.

Graciebobcat · 07/02/2021 04:53

Can we name the men who were aggressive in the meeting?

TheresOnlyOneJackieWeaver · 07/02/2021 04:55

@Graciebobcat - Why not? Their names were on the screens of the zoom call and they are all over the media now. I read an article earlier explaining all about them, who they are married to, their children, where they work, etc.

Furries · 07/02/2021 05:17

@Arobase

Props also to Sue, who was the only sane voice amongst the councillors at the January meeting, and still managed to keep calm, measured and factual and insist on having her say to three oafs who were determined not to listen.
Yup, I said the same on another thread. Sue has obviously had to deal with this shot on a long-term basis.

Sue rocks!

Travelledtheworld · 07/02/2021 05:18

@Viviennemary. Jackie wasn't representing the electorate. She was brought in to to advise at the request of the County Association of local councils. She didn't not have any voting rights.

SaskiaRembrandt · 07/02/2021 05:23

@Viviennemary

It's for the electorate to decide who represents them at meetings. Not Jackie Weaver.
Yes, it is, but once elected those representatives have a legal duty to follow the regulations covering their position. Unfortunately, that wasn't happening in Handforth so Jackie Weaver was sent to remind them it wasn't their personal fiefdom.
1forAll74 · 07/02/2021 05:34

Yes good for Jackie, some village or towns parish council meetings are like that one, where you can get stupid buffoon men, who think that they are the hierarchy of the place, and just have to have their mouthy say in all things and don't listen to other people. It is quite common for these type of men to think that women have no authority at all., and never listen to anyone.

Pyewhacket · 07/02/2021 05:39

But they were right. They didn't follow the standing rules. She was not an elected member of the parish council. She had no authority to take executive decisions. And any vote or decision from that meeting would be invalid. I'm not even sure of the legality of it and she may even be liable for any costs incurred. Hilarious maybe but chaotic nonsense.

EmmaGrundyForPM · 07/02/2021 05:53

@HenriettaHeffalump

The "READ THEM AND UNDERSTAND THEM" guy reminds me so much of the police officer in Withnail and I... "GET IN THE BACK OF THE VAN"
His name is Aled Brewerton.

According to his LinkedIn profile, he is a solicitor specialising in mediation and dispute resolution. Confused

Travelledtheworld · 07/02/2021 05:57

@EmmaGrundyForPM do you think someone has made up that Linked In Profile ?

EmmaGrundyForPM · 07/02/2021 05:58

oh, that hadn't occurred to me. He's definitely a solicitor though

I think you need to read more around this - the HPC is under investigation and has been since last July (iirc) for irregularities in terms of how funds were allocated and used. Oh and then they illegally suspended the clerk of the parish council.

I don't think Jackie is at any risk here - she was sent in to try and sort out their problems, and was unable to do so while the arses were throwing their weight around.

No, they weren't right. Jackie Weaver was sent there by Cheshire West's Democratic Services team because the council members who were ejected had repeatedly refused to fulfil their duties to their electors. Two of the people in that meeting were members of the pubic who had complained that they weren't being represented.
JaimeLeeCurtains · 07/02/2021 06:31

Elected councillors take an oath of office and must abide by the councillors' Code of Conduct, including 'treating others with respect', not ever bullying officers, and protecting the public purse.

If there are complaints, the statutory Monitoring Officer (or another officer who acts on his or her behalf) investigates.

I'm glad HPC is at investigation level. About time, from the sounds of it.

If Jackie Weaver is part of that investigation, she has acted reasonably. The 'Chair', not so much.

CrisisManagement · 07/02/2021 06:37

The next meeting:

Jackie takes a back seat and barely features. Not quite as fun as the first and they seem to have the technology sorted a bit more now. They still all have their cameras scarily close to the top half of their heads though.

I have a theory that Cyn and Sue don't like each other...

AStudyinPink · 07/02/2021 06:50

She is amazing. They’re hysterical.

justanotherneighinparadise · 07/02/2021 06:56

JaimeLeeCurtains · 07/02/2021 07:00

The opera is great! Grin

rwalker · 07/02/2021 07:00

I think she was as bad as them but just more clever. She couldn't of done more to inflame the situation if she tried.
She just lit the fuse turned up the heat and let it explode.
It was her way or no way, talked over people, Wouldn't let them finish and kicked anyone out who didn't agree with her .
If a man would of behaved like that he'd be called a bulling wanker.

She confused control of zoom with control of meeting .

JaimeLeeCurtains · 07/02/2021 07:02

Is that you, Chairman??
