Because I refuse to believe that those appalling men would have spoken to another man the way they attempted to shout her down. She handled herself so beautifully.

Frankly I think she deserves to be Dame Jackie Weaver for services to common sense!

What I don’t understand about aled brewerton - is who is sitting next to him and who is he shouting at
If that’s his dad, his dad is the main person on screen. And that is weird as fuck
What grown man does something like that with their dad...

My guess is that Aled still lives at home with his parents.
Catmaiden · 09/02/2021 02:08

I've been a member, and an officer, on so many committees. It's like that on ALL of them if you are a woman. Even if YOU are the Chair! Utterly toxic misogenistic shit, in virtually every single one in my experience of over 40 years. Unless it was the (very rare) all women membership!

hannayeah · 09/02/2021 03:32

I also thought he lived at home with his Dad. I did not think for a minute either of them could be married.

If anyone has any experience in seeing both Parish and Town council meetings in action then you’ll know what was witnessed at the Handforth meeting is nothing out of the normal

These councils are full of jumped up nobodies on opposite sides of the political spectrum that are there purely to score points off each other rather than attempt to do any good for the people they are supposed to be representing

We have very similar issues, the Council is led by Labour supporters who have a majority. If any other councillor from another party makes a suggestion that would be beneficial to the community they simply rally round and poo poo it

In the last 12 months we’ve had a very active and often outspoken Independent councillor that has brought 27 good ideas to the table, every single one of them bar one has been dismissed out if hand as it was he that brought the head to the table. The Labour led councillors brought just 1 good idea in the same period, it was passed no problem.

Just last year and in an attempt to save money our Independent councilor offered to take control of the towns hanging baskets put out for the Summer. Outside contractor quoted £10,000 for planting, watering and general maintenance but the councilor arranged to do it for just £4,000 which actually got passed.

Planting took place, local councilors on all sides got their photos in the local papers planting and generally taking credit for saving such a lot of money yet when it came to the watering Labour councillors decided to erect ‘Covid safety barriers’ near a lot of the lampposts where the baskets were placed meaning the Independent councilor could not get near the baskets to water. He was told in no uncertain terms that if he moved the barriers they’d prosecute him so he told them they could arrange watering. They did nothing, the plants all died in the Summer heat.

This is just one of many incidents that happens on a weekly basis, infighting within our local council and I believe it’s the same up and down the land

Jackie Weaver needs cloning, every council meeting needs someone like Jackie taking control, that are nothing more than jumped up bigots with an ego the size of a house only looking to score points off one another.

Dailyhandtowelwash · 09/02/2021 08:22

Imagine a utopia where the world is run by Jackie Weavers. No ego, just efficiency, humour and dedication to public service.
@Pyewhacket a Clerk is not an elected position. If you have a look at the job description I posted earlier you will see it involves a lot more than taking minutes.
In many respects the Clerk is far more important to a Parish Council than the Chairperson, they are there to ensure the smooth and legal running of proceedings at meetings, but actually do so much more, pretending they are irrelevant, simply because they are not elected ( as are so many PC Councillors across the Country) is not conducive to a good or well run Parish Council.
Getting rid of one without following the proper protocols is very much frowned upon. It can be difficult enough to find someone with the experience, time and patience to do the job as it is.
I covered this in a previous post. The meeting had not been started when any of these people were booted off and the council chair was refusing to do so despite two councillors legitimately calling the meeting. As the meeting had not started the standing orders governing meetings did not apply. It is standard practice that the clerk to the council is responsible for ensuring order ahead of meetings, although that doesn't really matter because as it wasn't a council meeting at that stage it was just a bunch of people on zoom and anyone could have booted anyone off. Once the meeting had been formally started then the chair of the meeting followed the standing orders around excluding disruptive individuals as can be seen in the minutes.

Jackie Weaver was there to ensure the council could conduct it's business, she succeeded.

@frumpety sorry quoted the wrong post!

Dailyhandtowelwash · 09/02/2021 09:11

Councillor Tolver by the way, and I assume others on the council but not Aled's iPad, stood for the Handforth Ratepayers' Association. I can't find much web presence but this story would suggest that Barry is also a member:

@Miljea thank you for posting, love it. Having sat on many Trade Union meetings, these men are not the few. I hope they make a full musical!

Apologies if it has already been shared, I haven't read all 22 pages, but I think I prefer the shanty to the opera

Great find!

HeronLanyon · 09/02/2021 13:34

daily deep digging there.
David incombe was also involved. Liked him in these meetings. He asked what may have been a planted q which allowed John smith to give helpful précis answer (sequel meeting). Overall he appears calm. He was also the one with the wonderfully prescient lines about ‘if ever this went viral’ in the infamous meeting itself.

LApprentiSorcier · 09/02/2021 13:54

Trump's impeachments have nothing on this intrigue.

picklemewalnuts · 09/02/2021 14:47

That is an interesting article. They were clearly successful in establishing a separate parish council. However this struck me as a bit naive: "Handforth Community Council would be free. " they claimed they wouldn't set up a rate paying parish council. Well they seem to have a significant precept now! You can't pay a clerk £25k a year (and you can't function effectively without a good clerk) without charging rates.

Everybody need a Hero 🦸‍♀️. Understand that it is very important to every human.

Iseestupidpeople · 09/02/2021 22:58

Absolutely. The problem was your basic white make privilege but Jackie had the power of the digital age, the power of the click.

Oblomov21 · 10/02/2021 05:50

Who does Jackie Weaver report to? she can't be asked to go in and investigate any other meetings where there is possible bullying/ chair has refused to hold a meeting since March 20, because she's now too famous!!

How the chair and vice can since claim reasonable behaviour is shocking!

picklemewalnuts · 10/02/2021 15:33

I'm pleased to say there were extra people in attendance at our PC meeting, down I am sure to Handforth!

2Rebecca · 10/02/2021 17:25

It looks as though Tolver and Brewer tried to impede democracy by holding meetings at 2pm on a Wednesday which half the council (presumably the employable half) couldn't make. The non Tolver meetings were at 7pm.

It’s not “undercover boss” though. People know why she is there when she comes. And she’s not the one doing the investigation.”
GoldieHelen · 10/02/2021 20:55

I imagine Jackie Weaver weighed up the pros and cons of going on national tv and decided hell yes I’ll go for it! And has proven her weight in gold sending the message that local government needs a head wobble.

If this leads to her being unemployable...well, she is in her 70s...

The mayor in the Handforth Parish Council zoom video has been given a vote of no confidence.
