To think they were rude & we were singled out ?

Today I went to a supermarket with partner.

As we approached the entrance , a security guard and member of staff raised their voice and stated " we can only let one of you in"

So one of us went in..

We then saw other couples entering together and not a thing was said !

Wtf

Very stern and shouted at us . It was not pleasant at all. Why didn't they say the same to others who were in twos ? Plenty of couples entering .

Why didn't you go to customer services and ask? Confused

BloggersBlog · 06/02/2021 21:23

Did you not ask him why you were not allowed and others were?

jemi01 · 06/02/2021 21:24

The supermarket in question policy on this is " shop alone where possible " so not sure why it was put across as we can only allow one of you in.

Markies · 06/02/2021 21:25

So could you have shopped alone or did you decide rules don’t apply to you?

jemi01 · 06/02/2021 21:25

Wondering if anyone else had this experience? I don't mind being challenged but no one else was

Harrykanesrightsock · 06/02/2021 21:25

My young adult daughters were stopped yet me and DP at the same supermarket weren’t questioned at all.

BlueTimes · 06/02/2021 21:25

Perhaps the security guard didn’t see the other couples or perhaps they knew they and knew that they lived separately. 🤷🏻‍♀️ You should have asked at the time to get the answer.

It’s also really well known that people shouldn’t be shopping in couples so I’m amazed this even came up.

ItsNotAlrightButItsOkay · 06/02/2021 21:26

Is it possible that it was a carer with a vulnerable person?

There is no reason ever for anyone to be rude about it though. Id make a complaint.

jemi01 · 06/02/2021 21:28

I was helping my partner with some shopping as he was picking things up for his gran , I also needed to get some naproxen from the pharmacy so just thought I would be ok to go in with him then depart for the pharmacy . We haven't been shopping together for around 1 year I completely forgot to be honest. It was the way they spoke to us that was rude.

OP posts:
Member869894 · 06/02/2021 21:28

Why would you go shopping as a couple?

jemi01 · 06/02/2021 21:29

@Member869894 you should ask many many couples I saw today

OP posts:
NuniaBeeswax · 06/02/2021 21:30

Ask the shop

jemi01 · 06/02/2021 21:30

@BlueTimes so are you allowed in if separate household even? Only they didn't ask us they just told us we both couldn't come in.

OP posts:
SatsumasOrClementines · 06/02/2021 21:30

Id make a complaint.

I’m not sure I would. Unless there’s a dripfeed coming, OP was in the wrong. Unless it was excessively rude then if it were me I doon’t think I’d bother complaining when I didn’t have a leg to stand on in the first place.

Gazelda · 06/02/2021 21:30

Did the security guard really shout at you?
Or did he/she shout across from a way away so that you could hear them?
I'm always incredulous that whenever there is an issue in a supermarket, the other part almost without fail will have shouted, screamed, threatened, yelled etc.

That aside, I thought it was pretty widely known that people should ashop alone unless unable to? So they weren't rude to you. Simply, pointing out the policy which you had tried to ignore. But I agree the rules should be applied to everyone. Unless, of course, the other couples had a valid reason for shopping together.

Did you have a trolley? Me and my partner went to Aldi last week and were told if you have a trolley one one can come in. I was about to volunteer DP, but when I turned round he'd beat me to it and ran off back to the car 🤣🤣

jemi01 · 06/02/2021 21:33

@Keeping2ChevronsApart no trolley , I was going to use the pharmacy in there and partner was going to get a basket

OP posts:
TheFairyCaravan · 06/02/2021 21:36

Why didn’t you tell them you were shopping for 2 households? They’d have probably let you both in then.

ButtWormHole · 06/02/2021 21:37

So why didn’t you say ‘I’m going to the pharmacy and then leaving’?

ilovesooty · 06/02/2021 21:37

So which one of you went in? Did the one who went in visit customer services to discuss it?

jemi01 · 06/02/2021 21:39

No didn't discuss as didn't see all the couples going in until I exited !

OP posts:
jemi01 · 06/02/2021 21:39

I went in but left after a minute as was all annoyed that I'd been yelled at

OP posts:
ilovesooty · 06/02/2021 21:40

So contact the supermarket and make a complaint if you feel you were unfairly treated.
