To think they were rude & we were singled out ?

Today I went to a supermarket with partner.

As we approached the entrance , a security guard and member of staff raised their voice and stated " we can only let one of you in"

So one of us went in..

We then saw other couples entering together and not a thing was said !

Wtf

Very stern and shouted at us . It was not pleasant at all. Why didn't they say the same to others who were in twos ? Plenty of couples entering .

Yes the guard was rude - as were most responses on this thread.

Somethingkindaoooo · 06/02/2021 23:14

I've had that.
When lockdown was easing last time, my daughter and I were denied entry together, but other groups were allowed in.
Twas Sainsbury's, and I reckon the security guard was just being a power hungry bully

It’s also rude to place store staff at unnecessary risk because you’re a snowflake that must go on a group outing/date to Sainsbury’s.

Let me guess, many of you defending OP probably think you should be vaccinated before retail staff too? You’re more of a priority right? Why when you can take steps to mitigate your risk, but retail staff can’t mitigate their risk due to people like you wilfully ignoring their guidance? If you blatantly disregard others like this, you can’t blame them for leaving out the niceties when they ask you to shop alone.

Sunnydayhere · 06/02/2021 23:27

We go in separately with a split list. That way we are in for a shorter time and less wandering about.

We also go at a quiet time in the week. - Definitely not at weekends.

NorbertMeubles · 06/02/2021 23:33

Ask the shop why the rules don't apply to everyone. Get an explanation.

bendmeoverbackwards · 06/02/2021 23:41

I’d rather a bit of rudeness from the guard if it helps to reduce the infection rate.

Being challenged is a GOOD thing, every restriction is helping to fight Covid. Even it’s a bit hit and miss it’s better than nothing.

Scalphelp · 06/02/2021 23:47

@NorbertMeubles

This is such a dumb argument. They obviously don’t have enough staff to catch out every potential transgression, but being able to deter as many as they can from doing it again is better than letting everyone run rampant. Other people apparently breaking the rules doesn’t excuse you from actually doing breaking them either.
Sherberr · 06/02/2021 23:56

Just ignore. There are plenty of jobs worths who love to play covid police, pay no attention.

Clearoutre · 07/02/2021 00:01

It sounds like a lack of training - staff on the day were told to implement the policy but ultimately applied it inconsistently by asking some people and not others.

It’s like when you go to a restaurant (remember them!) and the table next to you arrives and orders after you but gets their food first - it just reflects a system that doesn’t work but it’s not personal.

If their inconsistency persists I’d advise same as others and just go in separately.

If that’s how you feel why don’t you take it the next step further and just boycott the shop? You won’t be missed
Lemons1571 · 07/02/2021 00:07

I was stopped from going into Sainsbury’s as part of a couple and advised very strongly that I should be shopping alone.

No idea who the bloke not even a metre behind me at the sanitising station was but he was fit so I could’ve got used to the idea

They did let me in after I rectified their incorrect assumption Grin

Sure. All those workers in retail are really enjoying this. Not. Confused
2pinkginsplease · 07/02/2021 00:27

@ZoeTurtle

We shop as a couple as we shop for 2 sometimes 3 households so I think makes it easier if we both go.

FFS

@ZoeTurtleFFS what? What’s the problem?

DO you shop for 3 different households each week?

Surely it’s safer for both of us to go shopping once a week, rather than one us go shopping 2/3 times a week?

Feelingconfused2020 · 07/02/2021 01:02

This thread confirms my suspicion that the world is full of idiots. I'm sorry that they didn't challenge everyone, they should.have done. Perhaps there's a reason, perhaps not, the reality is that the guidelines are very clear, shop alone unless you are a carer or with children.

One of you could shop.once a week for all three households or, assuming the two additional households you are shopping for are vulnerable, you/they could get an online order. I think it's odd that you both feel you have to go. Even before the pandemic I always found it bizarre when couples went shopping together.

I did not defend the OP, I answered her question. I also pointed out how many posters had answered very rudely, you are a good example.

I really don't respect posters like you who make personal attacks simply to release your own frustrations, you bring nothing to the conversation except spite.

JackieWeaverHandforthCouncil · 07/02/2021 03:23

Forgot to book delivery slot this week so has to go to Sainsbury’s. IMO couples and families should all be banned. If the main shopper can’t drive, the driver waits in car with kids.

There was one family treating it as a day out. One kid ran into my trolley.

The man from one couple standing like a useless lump in the way whilst his wife shopped.

Another couple where the woman was yelling queries about what they had enough of at home across the isle.

Everyone else was just going around shopping quietly.

Mintjulia · 07/02/2021 03:27

We all know advice is to shop alone so why did you go with your partner in the first place?

FiveShelties · 07/02/2021 03:33

@katy1213

Will you need counselling?
🤣🤣🤣
ShaunaTheSheep · 07/02/2021 03:50

@jemi01

I went in but left after a minute as was all annoyed that I'd been yelled at
So you did go in? And left of your own accord? Because you were annoyed? Hmm
junebirthdaygirl · 07/02/2021 04:44

I have had three incidents of being shouted at in the past week. On my own each time.
I entered a small local shop and there was one customer inside at the counter. There was no notice on the door. The shopkeeper yelled " one customer at a time in the shop" ..l backed out quickly and left completely. No way could l go in there after that.
It was pretty much the same in the next small place another day...it was only 3.30 but for some reason they were closing early and l tried the door only to find it locked. A staff member opened the door and shouted..." what do you want?" . I was completely taken aback. The store owner overheard and came out and was very friendly.

I was thinking obviously people are stressed but the level of rudeness is unreal.
The third incident was me not seeing a queue sort of around the corner and the guy shouted.." join the queue!!!" In all incidents l left and decided my business was not going there.

Personally due to various family reasons this was one of the toughest weeks l have ever had and l was exceptionally vulnerable at all those times. Aggressive shouting and completely ignoring that l was the actual customer really impacted me. I get it that it has been a long lockdown but l'm sorry but you treat your customers properly. In all cases l did not retaliate but left.

Tanfastic · 07/02/2021 05:13

@BananaPop2020

Our local Tesco was full of couples and families. Nobody seemed concerned at all.

Same, went to Lidl today, lots of family outings and couples and maskless people.

lemmein · 07/02/2021 05:54

So many little prefects on here 🤣🤣

Dotinthecity · 07/02/2021 06:10

We just queue separately then regroup once inside the shop. Most people do this at our local supermarket, problem solved. 😉

rawlikesushi · 07/02/2021 06:13

I had a similar experience on Friday op.

I called at the supermarket on my way home from work and queued for ages.

After 15 minutes or so my adult daughter, also on her way home from work, arrived. She didn't see me and joined the back of the queue. When I spotted her, I went to the back of the queue to stand with her (we live in the same household).

I said I'd pick up whatever she was there for, to avoid both of us going in, but she wanted something specific for her baby, a bottle of wine (I don't drink wine and don't know anything about it), a birthday card for a friend, some work lunches, so she wanted to go in too.

When we got to the front of the queue, the security guard asked if we lived in the same household (yes) and if so only one of us could come in. We explained that I'd be doing the 'big shop' with a trolley and dd would go off on her own with a basket, that we both had shopping to do, but he said no.

She went home and I went in - full of couples, couples with children even. It's annoying unless rules applied consistently, and in our case ridiculous as dd just had to go back later for her bits.

Aprilx · 07/02/2021 06:15
@Gazelda shouted good job we had a mask on as he came right up to my face
Oh stop making things up, of course he did not come up to your face and shout at you. 🙄

Don’t go shopping as a couple, it is selfish and irresponsible and then you can avoid these situations.
