Actresses - Feel so cross - ruined by plastic surgery

Thisisnotreallymyname · 06/02/2021 20:03

Feel so sad - been watching TV and why is it that women ( in the main ) feel the need to absolutely ruin their faces with fillers, Botox, face lifts, to the point where they look deformed, or like they are wearing shiny masks.
Felicity Kendal last night on Graham Norton, Fern Britton on Mastermind, Sally Thomsett on Pointless Celeb........
Do they not see what we see when they look in the mirror ?
I’ve nothing against PSurgery, but my God, please know when to stop !

IABU - they look fine
IANBU -they look awful .

Actors.
Female or male actors.

icecreamgirl94 · 06/02/2021 20:06

Yes it’s their life and no it doesn’t affect me in anyway, but I do find it very sad to see once beautiful women looking, for want of a better word, a mess. It’s a shame that society has made some people believe they need to do this.

Fridget · 06/02/2021 20:06

I don’t think plastic surgery looks great on anyone’s face but they’re presumably doing because society places so little value on older women, that they feel pressure to keep looking young.

ReluctantHomeschooler · 06/02/2021 20:07

There is so much ageism directed at actresses, I am not surprised they try to hold back the years with plastic surgery. Have you ever seen a Madonna thread on here? So much ageist venom directed at her. It’s awful 😞.

Seeingadistance · 06/02/2021 20:07

I saw Felicity Kendall on GN last night and was horrified by what she’s done to her face. It doesn’t make her look younger - it makes her look, well, deformed, to be honest, and older than 74. It’s so sad that she felt the need to do that to herself.

SmidgenofaPigeon · 06/02/2021 20:07

I think you’re being a bit strange to be upset or saddened on their behalf Confused

I suspect this is a veiled way of getting posters to pile on and have a good bitch about various female actor’s faces.

CookEatRepeat · 06/02/2021 20:07

I feel sad that Felicity Kendal has done it. She is such a natural beauty it is a shame she can't feel comfortable with ageing.

Sparklesocks · 06/02/2021 20:08

I think it’s a bit harsh to say they’re ‘ruined’. I do agree that some people look worse post-surgery but equally I can’t imagine the pressure you must have as an older woman on TV so I understand why you might succumb. Obviously I don’t agree with the standards at all - but I don’t think women are really allowed to age in the same way men are, and getting work done might be the only way they hold onto jobs.

SomersetHamlyn · 06/02/2021 20:09

Jennifer Grey was so distinctive and beautiful in Dirty Dancing and is now totally generic. It is sad.

ladyslattern · 06/02/2021 20:10

I saw the beautiful Helen Mirren doing a Christmas charity appeal. Her face didn't work properly. Tragic

picklemewalnuts · 06/02/2021 20:11

Felicity Kendal has always been so beautiful! I'm sad she's done that. I watched a film recently, brilliant female cast- Julia Roberts, Gwynneth Paltrow etc. I barely recognised them. They no longer look like themselves.

Clicketyclick21 · 06/02/2021 20:11

Just saw a picture of Felicity Kendall from the show last night & it has the opposite affect of youthfulness. She has spoilt her face and it is a shame because she was a natural beauty.

AllTheFloralCurtains · 06/02/2021 20:12

Pressure of society and Hollywood. Must be horrifically hard.
Instead of pointing fingers and saying shame on them, we need to have shame on the society that causes it

1Morewineplease · 06/02/2021 20:12

I find it so sad. Am just watching Sally Thompsett now and saw Felicity Kendall yesterday.
I just don't know. Women should feel free to do whatever they want with their bodies but there's a huge line up of women who have just gone too far and makes me wonder if there's anyone in their lives who feels brave enough to say ' just stop now.' Yet my point of feeling that women ( and men, though not as many) should do what they want still stands.
My concern is that these women look in the mirror and do not see what everyone else does.

Hailtomyteeth · 06/02/2021 20:12

Hmm. As a younger person, I couldn't see the need. As a woman of 63, I'd take the tummy tuck, have the thighs and upper arms trimmed, have the breasts lifted (no silicone, it needs replacing every ten years), the extra chins removed, any minor lumps and bumps excised... oh yes, that's all looking more acceptable now!

Thisisnotreallymyname · 06/02/2021 20:13

I don’t think I’m strange at all feeling cross. I’m annoyed it’s mostly women that feel the need to be ever youthful, yet men tend to be allowed to age and they become “ distinguished “ “ characterful “ etc.

They can't win really. They get slated for getting work done. If they try to grow old gracefully, they get slated as well.

UnityUnited · 06/02/2021 20:14

I found Nicole Kidman in The Undoing really distracting. It is awful these beautiful, accomplished actors do this to themselves.

MamaNewtNewt · 06/02/2021 20:17

I saw Helen Hunt in a film recently (I SeeYou) and she looked terrible, almost unrecognisable. It was so distracting and she could barely speak as her face was so tight. I feel sad that she felt she needed to do that to her face. I mean this is an Oscar winning actress, she should be able to get jobs without having to have surgery.

OutComeTheWolves · 06/02/2021 20:17

I'm more cross that there still exists a culture which encourages this. If women didn't feel the pressure to barely look like they'd aged, less would resort to Botox, fillers etc.

MistleTOEboughski · 06/02/2021 20:18

I think we are still judging them on appearance which is what created the need for plastic surgery in the first place. Stop being so judgemental of looks.

LunaTheCat · 06/02/2021 20:18

I didn’t see the programme but yes, women who have had lots plastic surgery look awful.
I also think the surgeon who does it , the person who injects the fillers and the Botox has some culpability though - they are the professional and should draw the line and have a good knowledge of the pressures society puts on women and body dysmorphic disorders.

FlyNow · 06/02/2021 20:18

Its their body and I'm not against plastic surgery, so I don't judge it. But I do find it really distracting and can't really get in to the show/movie, it's all I can think about.

Well..........don't comment then and leave the thread. No-one's forcing you to be here.....
Frenchdressing · 06/02/2021 20:21

Some women get good PS. Susan Sarandon is stunning. I get more irritated by the generic look of so many young famous woman now....big lips, eye lift, big boobs and bum
And tiny waist. There’s no diversity !
