Does height matter to you? Short love interest

Wheresthesilverlining · 04/02/2021 13:24

So I'm seeing this guy who says he is 5ft8 and I'm 5ft 7. He's not, he's like a few inches shorter than me. Aibu for letting this out me off a bit/alot? I feel like a giant when we cuddle and like over powering idk. I only ever where healed shoes boots etc and love a nice pair of strappy heels I literally do not own one pair of flat shoes. The guy is really nice but my head can't seem to get over that I feel a bit uncomfortable that he's shorter than me. Help?

I think smaller women may need to feel more 'protected' by a man where as taller women may feel like the need less protection from a man.

That's a no from me and I'm 5ft 2.

As to how I choose a partner, well for me height, hair colour eye colour etc has very little to do with it. I'm attracted to individual men rather than a type.

BabyBee93 · 05/02/2021 17:16

@JackieweaverhasALLtheauthority

so if you think that sexual attraction should be an equal opportunities thing....how do you choose a partner?

@Icenii

You'd think, as women, who are constantly judged by our appearance (not slim enough, not pretty enough, boobs too small, ugly, specky 4 eyes) etc, we'd be a bit more understanding when it comes to other human beings.

Maybe you don't want to date man of a certain height, that's fine, but for those of you who take it further and assign negative attributes to short men like 'cringe, never again', 'short man syndrome', 'like a child', sticking up a photo to poke fun at, it is pretty low. A horrid personality trait that makes you no better than men poking fun at an overweight women.

This

I’m a shorter bloke. I’ve been insulted, called a short arse, a child, not man enough, weedy, like a toy man, all by women

If I’m assertive I have small man syndrome, if I’m passive I’m not man enough. Any nice cars I drive are compensating.

I have enough self esteem to not let it bother me but I have friends who receive similar and it does upset them, and I have a son who, odds are, will be on the shorter side. I hope he’s going to be robust enough to cope with it

Preference is fine, insults and jokes are not

That's pretty shit! It's fine if someone doesn't fancy someone for any reason, but being a bitch/dickhead about it is just fucking lame

MissMarpleDarling · 05/02/2021 17:31

Yea it does to me after my short ex who had major short person syndrome.

BillMasen · 05/02/2021 17:34

Not to get all victim about it, but shorter slightly built men have been fair game for ever. We don’t fit the mould of tall, muscular, strong men and that’s been laughed at in jokes, adverts, tv, society, and by both men and women for ages.

I know it’s a small taste of what women put up with. I know I have privilege. It just smarts sometimes

Icenii · 05/02/2021 17:35

So he displayed personality traits that only short men ever show? Stop being daft and contributing to negative stereotypes.

What is short person syndrome? How would you explain it?
SandyY2K · 05/02/2021 17:38

Any reason you choose a partner that you're attracted to is a preference that you're entitled to. Wherever it's a physical attribute or anything else.

We live in a democracy and I'd think if nothing else, we're entitled to choose a partner based on what we as individuals find attractive.

I'm black...if a man doesn't find black women attractive to date, that's his choice. It's not racist, it's a preference. He's not mistreating black women.......he just doesn't want to be in relationship with one. Nothing wrong with that at all.

Physical attraction is the first thing for most people, then you get to know the individual...the thing with modern times, is people lie online, photoshop pictures and catfish...so you can get to know their personality, before you actually are them.

There was a thread a while back, where the OP met her BF online and he said he was 9 years younger. If I recall rightly, she found out from seeing either his driving licence or passport ( she wasn't snooping) and when she asked him, he said it's because he didn't get many replies when he put his correct age.

There was another where the man lied about his occupation.

It's just wrong. When you provide false information on which someone makes a decision, you're removing their ability to make an informed choice.

JackieweaverhasALLtheauthority · 05/02/2021 17:40

well, yeah....you do have privilege.
imagine spending your life from about the age of 10/11 onwards with people commenting of every single aspect of your appearance. your clothes, your hair, your height, your weight, your tits, your stomach, how you stand, how you eat etc etc

Aisforharlot · 05/02/2021 17:40

My DP is shorter, and I'd have missed out on a lot if I'd have had a height requirement.
That said attraction is important.

I know. I said that

I’m allowed to feel a bit hurt sometimes though

CounsellorTroi · 05/02/2021 17:42

No one is saying men lying about their height is right, just that it's understandable given how many women don't like short men.

And I asked earlier if women who have a minimum height requirement actually state that in their profiles?

LookingUpIn21 · 05/02/2021 17:43

I'm taller than my partner, but I'm 5'8 and lesbian so if I refused to date women shorter than me I'd be SOL.

It's really not an issue.

gannett · 05/02/2021 17:43

This sums up my thoughts very well.

There are certain physical traits I like and some I don't. I keep my mouth shut about them and keep it moving.

Many of the comments about height in this thread go way beyond expressing a preference and into WEIRD territory.

suck it up buttercup- join the gang

Chanjer · 05/02/2021 17:43

I have a preconceived idea of an ideal partner and a partner of 24 years who isn't any of those things (but is many other wonderful things)

If I'd passed up on them because they weren't xyz then I can not imagine ever meeting someone more ideal.

Plus I'm only 5' 2" tall so I gotta take what I can get obviously Grin

Nah seriously to the parents of small boys there's a load of women that like small blokes but I reckon they're like shy Tories or something cos they don't ever feature on these threads

SchrodingersImmigrant · 05/02/2021 17:44

Let's not move this onto a misery olympics by "we have it worse"...

What's the context to this?
Was this said by women you were in a relationship with during an argument? People say things to hurt you on arguments. Like "you fat cow"

I wouldn't think a random woman in the street or a friend would say this to you.

But if he goes on about it at length... says shit like "cringe, I could never date a black woman"... says "black women aren't feminine enough for me"... implies that his preference against black women is natural and biological and something he can bond with other men about... then he is certainly a racist pig.

That's what I'm seeing in this thread.

Mixture of randoms on nights out, first dates being jokey, friends of friends trying to be funny. Never in a relationship.

JackieweaverhasALLtheauthority · 05/02/2021 17:49

what would it look like? come on-you and i could be the models!
it could be like the toilet signs- but the woman could be massive and the man smaller.Grin

try being a woman my height with size 9 feet trying to buy women's shoes. There is no pain like it.

JackieweaverhasALLtheauthority · 05/02/2021 17:49

Tbf I’m mainly seeing sensible “preferences are ok” which is fine and right
