The Incel Movement (TW)

NC. Wasn't sure if this was right board (was debating putting it on Feminism) but hopefully this is fine.

Has anyone heard about this Incel movement? I had heard the odd thing about it, but I've been reading a forum on another site - don't want to link it or I might get the post deleted - and the things that have been said have been fucking abysmal.

(Trigger warning here) An example being: "Females only have one worth and it's making babies. If a foid [female humanoid, used to indicate that women are subhuman] can't give birth, she's nothing more than a fleshlight".

For anyone who wants a bit of a TL;DR, Incels, a portmanteau of "involuntary celibates", are members of an online subculture who define themselves as unable to find a romantic or sexual partner despite desiring one.

Not read many incel-specific threads on here, but to be honest it's really boiled my piss. Hope I've done the right things with the trigger warnings, wanted to start a conversation around this but hoping not to upset anyone!

Incels are a disturbing group of men. They blame women for their lack of relationships/sex life. They're entitled to our bodies and we're disgusting for not allowing them to have sex with us.

Very troubled and dangerous people.

rainbowdaz · 01/02/2021 12:56

Personally, I don't get why we give these people any attention. They're just sad and lonely individuals who are bitter at not having a female partner.

Maybe I'm not explaining myself very well, but this is all jealously. I'm not sure they really believe this, so much as they're telling themselves this to feel better.

Staffy1 · 01/02/2021 12:59

Yes, well, the reason they can't find willing partners is blindingly obvious.

BLToutanowhere · 01/02/2021 13:03

From what I've seen it's a very small number of men but their viewpoint is amplified massively in the especially toxic way the internet has.

At "best", it gives socially/romantically inept men a label they can apply to themselves rather than dealing with whatever issues they should be addressing.

At worst, women are going to get raped or murdered by one of the outliers of this section of people. One woman is too many. It needs addressing in the same way as any other extremism.

On a day when Zara Mohammed has been elected the first female leader of The Muslim Council of Britain, we cannot be encouraging backward steps in the rights of women to be themselves freely.

ButwhereisMYcoffee · 01/02/2021 13:12

@o8O8O8o

I feel that this movement is in part backlash against women's increasing autonomy in modern culture, few people will relinquish power willingly, power corrupts and men have had too much of it for too long!
Absolutely this. Did we really think men would give up millennia of life being ALL about them and having all the power, money, land, life organised around them with wives doing all the crap work, governing, exploring, learning, having all the history books about them, claiming that women were thick and useless? With many women outclassing them in education and professional achievements?
pissofficiallyboiled · 01/02/2021 13:13

Personally, I don't get why we give these people any attention. They're just sad and lonely individuals who are bitter at not having a female partner.

Men who whinge about having difficulties with women have been around forever. However, this incel community is much more insidious (and sometimes violent). There was an attack in Toronto by incels that was labeled a terrorist action.

I didn't want to link this as I really don't want to have anything taken down due to promotion - promise I'm not trying to!, but if you look on the r/inceltear tag on Reddit (trigger warning: it's very disturbing) you can see the difference between slightly arsey bitter men and actively dangerous, hateful men that make up the community.

Have you seen Redpillers as well? It’s basically incels that date women and have sex. They’re a bunch of misogynist men that pretend they’re not misogynistic it’s just that women aren’t as good as men. All of these things base around ‘men’ thinking we’re unintelligent and only good for sex/babies. Crazy how they’re all surprised they can never keep a girlfriend, and they haven’t actually linked their attitude to that? I mean I don’t want a man acting as if I’m his sex cleaning machine and then going around boasting about how he has a girlfriend. Ew.

They like to dress it up as if they’re doing us a favour too, like they’re training us to be ‘women’ hmmm no thanks! I’ve been a woman my whole life Grin

TheGravelRoad · 01/02/2021 13:15

I read about it a lot after Elliott Rodgers murdered a bunch of people. Thankfully it seems to be mostly based in the USA. It really seems like the US has SO many groups of mentally disturbed people.

pissofficiallyboiled · 01/02/2021 13:16

I have, Thehawki, I think they believe women have the advantage and are more privileged than men, don't they?

A Wiki definition included the phrase "one who believes society is gynocentric" Confused

RandomLondoner · 01/02/2021 13:17

No person has a right to sex because it depends on having a willing partner

I think it's unlikely that Amnesty are claiming that it's OK to force people to have sex to satisfy someone else's rights. I think it's more likely that you haven't understood whatever it is they mean by the right to have sex.

BrumBoo · 01/02/2021 13:19

From what I've seen it's a very small number of men but their viewpoint is amplified massively in the especially toxic way the internet has.

Unfortunately the community is quickly growing, and there is a small crossover with another.... rather untouchable group in society. Hence why it's becoming more difficult to point out their evident and most obvious misogynistic behaviour.

o8O8O8o · 01/02/2021 13:20

With many women outclassing them in education and professional achievements
....as if they instinctively knew that if they didn't oppress us we would easily overtake them
If women can be always kept in the category of 'subordinate' than every man no matter how inferior can at least rely on the fact that a woman will defer to him
When that is gone no wonder they lash out!

Mintjulia · 01/02/2021 13:20

@godimabitch has highlighted the bit I find most disturbing, it's their sense of entitlement.

Everyone increases their chance of finding a life partner by being a kinder, more supportive, more optimistic, even just more fragrant person. That applies to everyone, male or female. But the incel belief that they are entitled to sex without making any effort to attract a mate is vile.

Their refusal to develop a normal two-way relationship and their belief that they are entitled to sex by force makes them fundamentally antisocial and therefore a danger in the same way as any other form of extremism, and needs to be actively addressed by the authorities..
.

pissofficiallyboiled · 01/02/2021 13:20

Not a ton of info into this, but based on Wikipedia (I know, unreliable but still!) it says: Estimates of the overall size of the subculture vary greatly, ranging from thousands to hundreds of thousands.

JamesMiddletonsMarshmallows · 01/02/2021 13:23

They're vile little twerps who are butter because no one will fuck them. And sadly the modern age has meant that any old prick can have a platform and community, so they're more prominent than they deserve to be.

DeaconBoo · 01/02/2021 13:25

It's been going for years. It is filtering through to mainstream society, as pps have said. The Laura Bates book would be worth a read (it's on my to-read list!)

There are several "prongs" of extremist anti-women movements gathering pace at the moment. (Or maybe it's just a clearer mouthpiece for the underlying hatred and disdsin that was already so prevalent in our society). Be on your guard, and protect your boundaries, women!
And teach your boys about this stuff.

Pukkatea · 01/02/2021 13:26

What terrifies me is that I had a friend who was the sweetest man until he was radicalised by these groups. Just a normal, somewhat unlucky in love guy who spent too much time on the Internet and now he's a full on misogynist incel.

JamesMiddletonsMarshmallows · 01/02/2021 13:26

@TheMobileSiteMadeMeSignup

They label themselves as incels when really, if they were genuinely nice people who gave a fuck and put in a bit of effort they might actually find someone. But they expect supermodel women as girlfriends so any regular woman falls short.

They are not involuntarily celibate, they are disgusting misogynists who no woman should ever touch.

Yes and most of them look like Jabba the Hut themselves and won't consider going for women in their league, because male entitlement, so aim higher and sulk when they find a gorgeous, smart woman doesn't want a fat ugly whining weirdo who still lives with mummy
LondonStone · 01/02/2021 13:29

You’re right, its absolutely terrifying.

I once read some posts from an incel forum and they were unhinged. A man posted about how he had deliberately followed a young girl to scare her and he was delighted that she was afraid of him. Other members jumped in saying they do similar things themselves and how good it is to see a teenage girl/woman look scared of them.

FoxyTheFox · 01/02/2021 13:31

I think it's unlikely that Amnesty are claiming that it's OK to force people to have sex to satisfy someone else's rights. I think it's more likely that you haven't understood whatever it is they mean by the right to have sex

Oh look. A man has arrived to pat us on the head and tell us that our opinions are invalid and its simply that we have misunderstood Hmm

CorianderBee · 01/02/2021 13:34

Yes they've been around for years. An American killed a bunch of sorority girls due to his belief in this.

CorianderBee · 01/02/2021 13:35

They're also very pro-rape.

startrek90 · 01/02/2021 13:36

It's so scary and is definitely a recruiting ground for other extremist movements. I live in fear that my sons will be suckled into this movement. My son and husband love playing computer games and I know that is where some of these incels recruit online. I fear my daughter will come across these people.

I wish the government would take these people seriously, fact is if there were 6 mass murders aimed at another protected group it would be taken far more seriously. Misogyny just isn't considered serious and it absolutely is, its like a gateway drug to other bigoted and violent views.

pissofficiallyboiled · 01/02/2021 13:37

Yes, Elliot Rodgers. I've watched some of his final videos, and I actually read his manifesto a few years back (his mass shooting was what he called his "Day of Retribution"). It's not especially well written and again is quite disturbing, but for anyone interested in criminal psychology it's definitely insightful.

OP posts:
QueenoftheAir · 01/02/2021 13:37

Has anyone heard about this Incel movement?

yes, it's been world-wide news at least a couple of times: there was a shooting in Canada which was a pathetic excuse for a man specifically targeting young women.

Fucker. They are pathetic tiny-dicks.

Wikipedia infoo:
At least six mass murders, resulting in a total of 44 deaths, have been committed since 2014 by men who have either self-identified as incels or who had mentioned incel-related names and writings in their private writings or Internet postings.
