What would Mrs Hinch say. Beggars belief what some people get up to. 🤯

newnameforthiscomment · 30/01/2021 17:04

Loads of posts about this recently on a dishwasher thread. So grim

MrDarcysMa · 30/01/2021 17:14

Imagine sitting having a cuppa at this persons house and then they mention they do this 🤢

AliceAbsolum · 30/01/2021 17:34

Hm. I put my mooncup in the dishwasher 😅

MrDarcysMa · 30/01/2021 17:38

I sterilise mine in a mug.... but presumably your moon isn't covered in faecal bacteria?

tilder · 30/01/2021 17:41

It's sounds horrible and I wouldn't do it.

Equally, if there is something living in your toilet that won't be killed by detergent and a hot wash, you may have bigger problems to worry about.

waitrosetrollydolly · 30/01/2021 17:41

Ewwww

Carysmatthews · 30/01/2021 17:43

I put my toilet seat in the dishwasher. Not with pots, on its own. I figure it gets that hot that everything is sterilised. I then put the dishwasher on with a dishwasher cleaner.

Rover83 · 30/01/2021 17:43

Even the thought of people putting their pet food dishes in with plates makes me feel a bit sick. I hate waste but just buy a new bloody brush

SchrodingersImmigrant · 30/01/2021 17:44

I am a fan of dishwasher and it does sanitise things, but even I wouldn't put toilet brush there 😂 Nope.

jimmyjo · 30/01/2021 17:46

I buy cheap as chips toilet brushes and through every month

jimmyjo · 30/01/2021 17:46

Throw 😂😂

SchrodingersImmigrant · 30/01/2021 17:47

And just like thsi we turn from "eww" to "mate, think about the planet"😂

SchrodingersImmigrant · 30/01/2021 17:48

It reminds me though, that I need to buy new ones

Chalkcheese · 30/01/2021 17:48

I wash mine in the bath, then bleach the bath. Not sure it's so different? But I still wouldn't be able to put it in the dish washer.

pigsDOfly · 30/01/2021 17:49

A few years back there were a number of threads on here about what people put in their dishwashers: loo brushes, Crocs, loo seats, mooncups and so on.

It's called a 'dishwasher' for a reason. It's not called a multi purpose cleaning machine

Yes, dishwashers clean dishes but they do not reach high enough temperatures to sterilise.

You have to clean the inside of a dishwasher from time to time: empty and clean the filter, and the rubber door seals because grease builds up over time.

If you wash a loo brush in your dishwasher, loo brush residue will collect in your dishwasher in the same way grease does; it's absolutely revolting.

If people must wash things like that in a machine then surely using the washing machine would make more sense.

Oysterbabe · 30/01/2021 17:50

No, no, no. OMG 🤮🤮
Toilet seats too?
Absolutely rank.

2typesofjungle · 30/01/2021 17:50

@jimmyjo that's terrible! The amount of unnecessary plastic waste you are producing! Why can't you just clean the toilet brush? I really struggle with how wasteful society are!

BeyondMyWits · 30/01/2021 17:52

But a knife used to chop raw chicken is OK?

SchrodingersImmigrant · 30/01/2021 17:52

I think test proved that toilet seat has usually less bacteria on than keyboard or tv remote (fondly remembers grandma and tv remote wrapped in palstic)😁

pigsDOfly · 30/01/2021 17:55

Every time I clean my loo I put lavatory cleaner round the bowl and put the loo brush in the lavatory bowl as well, so they both get cleaned at the same time.

They both end up perfectly clean.

And as for buying a new brush every month. Why would you do that? All those cleanable, practically new brushes going to landfill.

Luckyrabbitfoot · 30/01/2021 17:58

After reading a thread recently where people said they let their dogs lick the plates inside the dishwasher, I’m not surprised. Disgusted, but not surprised!

LBOCS2 · 30/01/2021 18:01

So... I'll happily put a chopping board I've chopped raw chicken on into the dishwasher. And I trust it'll come out clean, rather than having swilled everything else in salmonella soup.

In theory there's nothing wrong with this, nothing worse than the raw chicken. But it still gives me the ick.

TheSandman · 30/01/2021 18:10

@jimmyjo

Every month?!

How often do you clean your toilet with one before you throw it? Even if you do it every day that's only 30 odd times. And how dirty can your toilet be if you need to clean it every day? - mind you, I don't know how many curries you eat or how good your families aim is.

I've got five in my house (2 adults 3 kids). It's years since I bought a toilet brush. If one gets a bit manky looking I just leave it in the toilet with some bleach overnight.

If the bog ends up clean what does it matter what the brush looks like?
