Just saw this on a Facebook group... Confused

@GrandTheftWalrus

If dishwashers don't get hot enough to sterilise then why are people told to put baby bottles in them?
Ours has a special baby bottle cycle, the normal cycle wouldn’t get hot enough surely? It would just was them and then they would need to be sterilised afterwards.
Help1402 · 30/01/2021 23:14

@TheSandman

Years 😟 because you’ve then got a pooey germy brush sitting in your bathroom. You should replace them often. I clean my loo every day , or every time it’s been used for a shit, it only takes a couple of seconds.

LouMumsnet · 30/01/2021 23:17

Evening all - we had a few reports about names being visible in the pictures included in the OP so we're removed the pics but will leave the thread as it seems so many of you are enjoying it.

Help1402 · 30/01/2021 23:17

Also why are people saying the put there mooncups in the dishwasher or sterilising in mugs , that is disgusting that’s still period blood.

LaurieFairyCake · 30/01/2021 23:43

I put pet bowls/garden pots that had snail gunk on it/toilet brushes/garden implements ALL in the dishwasher

No one gets ill here

I also put knives in there - I've had knives years and they've never blunted

My dishwasher washes at 90 - that's good enough for me

Coffeeandcocopops · 31/01/2021 00:19

@NoIDontWatchLoveIsland

That’s why I’m not keen on using hotel kettles

Why not?

It literally gets boiled every time you use it lol, you think there's that much bad stuff living in there? All right love. Hmm

Because someone suggested putting the loo brush in one to clean it. I can just imagine someone doing that in a hotel. All right love.
Greenmarmalade · 31/01/2021 01:09

I put my dog’s bowls in the dishwasher with our dishes. I do not see the hygiene issue. Loo brush- too gross to contemplate.

aloetia · 31/01/2021 02:15

That's absolutely disgusting. The only items that go in my dishwasher are either pots and pans I have cooked in or dishes/cutlery I have eaten from. Thanks to MN, I think I've seen it all now thanks 🤢

SnoozyLou · 31/01/2021 02:26

A new toilet brush for a few quid, versus putting your crockery in where you know shit has been.

Why not just get rid of the dishwasher and rinse the plates straight on the pan?

Ew.

I wash it with soap and water beforehand. Just do it once at the end of my period to make sure its clean for next month!
EmmaGrundyForPM · 31/01/2021 04:27

What's wrong with putting pet bowls in the dishwasher?

pintoffginplz · 31/01/2021 05:22

Who the hell thought this idea up 😩
This has scared me for life, how and I supposed to have a cuppa now at a friend's house, without asking them if they do this.

I’m not convinced that period blood is disgusting. Also I doubt many bacteria will survive three weeks on a piece of silicone so I’m also not convinced they need to be sterilised and have never sterilised mine (fifteen years I’ve had it).

But even I wouldn’t put a toilet brush in a dishwasher.

Serin · 31/01/2021 09:56

I don't have a loo brush or a dish washer but I read an article a while back about which item was the most contaminated in a home. It was, at number 2, the dogs feeding bowl and, at number 1, the dog's mouth. We do have a dog, and I could have worked this out after seeing where the dirty bugger puts his nose.

BasiliskStare · 31/01/2021 13:55

Well , I put dogs' bowls in the dishwasher - they are wiped out before - but then I am one who lets the dogs sleep on the bed - none of us has had outside pavement disease yet - indeed little dog has his own pillow. None of my family have been ill from a lot of dog licking. I do see peoples' point but in general dogs won't make you ill & bed clothes washed regularly at a high temperature will be OK. I am happy to be contradicted but after 12 years - no one ill here. If dogs have rolled in e.g. manure or horse droppings ( which they do ) then they they get a bath.

But I still wouldn't put a loo brush in the dishwasher - just stick it in bleach in the receptacle it lives in and replace regularly. ( Yes I have loo brushes ) Blush

Mum2jenny · 31/01/2021 21:21

Dog bowls in my dishwasher too, so far no issues. But the dog is a family member and does occasionally sleep in our bed( I know, sooo bad!!!!)

Help1402 · 31/01/2021 22:25

@RiojaRose
I know it’s natural but period blood makes me feel abit 🤢 wouldn’t want something that’s been in my vagina in with the dishes I’m going to eat off.

hansgrueber · 31/01/2021 22:28

A few years back there were a number of threads on here about what people put in their dishwashers: loo brushes, Crocs, loo seats, mooncups and so on.

And a side of salmon?

OutrageousFlavourLikeFreesias · 31/01/2021 22:34

My exDH did this. Put it in the dishwasher with all the pots and the pans and the cups and the plates and the everything. I found out when I found it in there one day. The solicitor who handled my divorce cried with laughter when I told her. Twenty years later I can see the funny side. Sort of Grin

mootymoo · 31/01/2021 22:52

I rinse mine in the toilet and soak in cheap bleach (the 30p a huge container stuff). Seems to have not killed me yet.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 31/01/2021 22:55

Thanks to mn I just ordered silicone brushes.

It doesn't say whether they are dishwashers safe tho 😂

MrDarcysMa · 03/02/2021 22:31

JFC someone on my local fb page is selling a toilet brush today too. It's a fancy branded one.l but not a new one.
🥴
