@BeyondMyWits

But a knife used to chop raw chicken is OK?
Putting knives in dishwashers is not ok, the blades get ruined in the basket.
ammary · 30/01/2021 18:13

I once found my housemate in my student days cleaning the loo brush in the kitchen sink with clean washing up next to it Envy

She was a student nurse!

GRIM.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 30/01/2021 18:15

Ha! Just looked at toilet brushes on amazon....
Look at the bottom part of the page 😂😂

(I redacted my details above)

@gubanc I put my knives in the knife shelf at the top. Should I not be doing this ?

I do too and they are fine.

PicsInRed · 30/01/2021 18:19

And thus ended cuppas at other people's houses.

I remember reading a "life hack" (side rant: who the fuck decided that 'tips' are now called life hacks, can we find them and punch them in the face please) to bake jacket potatoes in the dishwasher. I really hope those people don't also put their big brush in it

Those might be fine. I'm a bit obsessed with my knives and didn't put them in the shelves either.

GrandTheftWalrus · 30/01/2021 18:29

If dishwashers don't get hot enough to sterilise then why are people told to put baby bottles in them?

I've seen people saying they cook fish in the dishwasher.

I have a friend who told me she never eats a homemade cake or anything at work that didn't come from the shops. I found this rude at some point, mumsnet opened my eyes.

They don't get hot enough to sterilise. They only sanitise. Maybe they have hot enough programme on it, but standard programmes don't get that hot
GrandTheftWalrus · 30/01/2021 18:32

Fair enough I don't have one so couldn't tell you how hot they got

Totally! I can't believe how disgusting people are 🤢
MistressoftheDarkSide · 30/01/2021 18:36

Ew.

Wouldn't occur to me to do anything with a toilet brush cleaning wise other than leave it in the bowl overnight with bleach. And a few flushes in the morning.

Covidcorvid · 30/01/2021 18:39

A dishwasher doesn’t get hot enough to sterilise something. Will have to wait for mine to stop running so I can check the different programme temps but I think the main one is 60 degrees. Which is far from boiling/sterilisation?

Covidcorvid · 30/01/2021 18:41

You can wash them in the dishwasher but should still sterilise them after.
newnameforthiscomment · 30/01/2021 18:46

It doesn't sterilize things otherwise you wouldn't need to sterilize baby bottles after using the dishwasher to wash them Confused

MatildaStoker · 30/01/2021 19:06

That’s just grim.

ARudeTerriblePerson · 30/01/2021 19:15

What's this about knives? Can they go on the top shelf OK?

Loo brush is beyond yuck.

Kittygalore666 · 30/01/2021 19:19

Pet dishes? I can’t do it but know lots who do

christmasathomeagain · 30/01/2021 19:40

I'm not particularly squeamish and don't have the highest hygiene standards but I couldn't put a toilet brush in my dishwasher. There are to many nooks and crannies for 'dirt' to be flung then flung back out later.

I don't use a brush though. We use bleach which cleans it up well.

GrandTheftWalrus · 30/01/2021 19:46

Like I say, I don't have a dishwasher so I thought people were sterilising bottles in it.

Happy to be corrected though.

MrMeSeeks · 30/01/2021 19:57

*mmyjo

I buy cheap as chips toilet brushes and through every month*

What’s wrong with you?

jimmyjo · 30/01/2021 20:55
