AIBU to think that Innocent are guilty of online bullying?

Over on Twitter, an anonymous troll with 10 followers told Innocent to stop following a woman because they consider that woman to be a transphobe. Innocent agree to do so and also copy the poor woman into their reply so that their 297k followers can have a go at her too. Of course they haven't bothered to reply to all the people telling them that this is shameful behaviour, they're just dull boring women after all.
YANBU - Innocent fucked this one up & should apologize
YABU - public shaming of non-compliant women by Innocent is a good thing

@ShemShem

They haven't bullied anyone

If you have shameful and outdated opinions prepare to get some heat for them

What shameful and outdated opinions would those be exactly?

@JustHereWithMyPopcorn

The stupidity on this thread is only coming from you ShemShem and a couple of other trolls like you.
Nah, although it's a shame the transphobic views which seemed to be contained in the 'feminism' boards have seeped over to AIBU.

If you're transphobic you deserve to be called out for it. If you're opinion is outdated and pretty nasty accept you will be challenged on it.

Quaagars · 03/02/2021 17:37

I'd vote, but the way you've loaded the voting options to create a narrative and bias is a bit Hmm
Why not just ask people to vote without emotive language and a slanting angle?

shem
I’d love to see an explanation of what you consider to be “transphobic opinions”, either from MN or from flashmaggie.

Because it's a bit tongue in cheek. You know, a bit like the Innocent Twitter account was before it got into the ducking-stool business.

Not really, it just slants the question to a preferred answer.

You don't consider 'trans women aren't women' to be transphobic? She was even spoken to by the police a few years ago due to the amount of shit she posted which was offensive.

Really?
Didn't know that - form for it then if so.

Nanny0gg · 03/02/2021 18:00
@saraclara twitter automatically tags everyone in the conversation - the odd man who originally tweeted tagged her into it, not innocent.

Innocent also has no control over the actions of online trolls - you can't blame them for the behaviour of others.

I do disagree with the position innocent is taking, but I really don't see this as bullying.
You can untag them though

www.spectator.co.uk/article/why-are-the-police-stopping-a-74-year-old-tweeting-about-transgenderism-5-february-2019/amp?__twitter_impression=true here's a link to what actually happened if you're interested. It seems like just another spiteful targeted attack on her, the police confirmed as much. "Hi Margaret, we had a number of people contact us on social media about the comments made online. A follow-up call was made for no other reason than to raise awareness of the complaints. Kind regards, Web Team."

I won’t buy any of their stuff again. How dare they lecture and scold people for expressing their perfectly legal opinions?

TalkingtoLangClegintheDark · 03/02/2021 18:18

You don't consider 'trans women aren't women' to be transphobic?

No. It’s a statement of simple fact. The definition of woman is adult human female, and the people you call transwomen are of necessity adult human males.

I think the idea that “TWAW” is misogynistic and homophobic (especially lesbophobic), but I’m not trying to get the police to talk to you and everyone else who promotes that hateful (IMO) ideology.

Anyway. What is that objective, factually true and non-circular definition of woman that you’re referring to, when you use the word? Words do need have meanings, you know, in order not to be... meaningless.

AStudyinPink · 03/02/2021 18:18

You don't consider 'trans women aren't women' to be transphobic?

Do you know what “phobic” actually means? Is it “sky-phobic” for me to describe the sky as blue rather than green? Is it “dog-phobic” for me to say dogs have four legs?

thebabessavedme · 03/02/2021 18:18

Why is it shameful to believe that if a person born with a penis that person is not a woman?

TalkingtoLangClegintheDark · 03/02/2021 18:21

And FYI, ShemShem, it’s not “shameful and outdated” to believe that female people, those who have been oppressed by male people since forever, should have the right to boundaries and autonomy over our own lives.

It’s you that’s peddling a regressive, shameful doctrine of expecting female people to submit to the will of male people. Same old patriarchy as it ever was.

Quaagars · 03/02/2021 18:23

Where did they "lecture" and "scold" her?!

The tweet said thanks for letting us know and that they'd be unfollowing the account.

See what I mean about twisting language to suit a narrative? Just like the poll does.

This was the tweet
Hello Andrew. We've sorted that out now so thanks a lot for giving us the heads up.

This was what they were replying to

may I ask why you follow
?
You follow a clear transphobe, who runs the account? I love your Twitter content but endorsing them Is not an accident, it’s not as if they’re a celebrity Even if you disagree, it’s still to political for an innocent drink company.

Where do you get that Innocent scolded and lectured her?
It's hyperbolic language and twisting to try and get people to froth.

AStudyinPink · 03/02/2021 18:27

Quaagars

They then went out of their way to make a statement saying that account ‘wasn’t in line with their values of inclusivity and respect’ and stating “we stand against discrimination”. That is - IMO - lecturing.

Saying “TW” are men isn’t discriminatory; it is science.

Proudboomer · 03/02/2021 18:31

Well I stopped buying body shop products and a bought a shit tonne of their stuff as they were part of the JKR bulling so now it looks like innocent smoothies are off the menu too.

Yes. And by displaying their partisan support for that ideology, they have revealed that far from being against discrimination, they are happy to support a movement that discriminates against women and gay people, especially lesbians. Corporate misogyny in action.

Very ugly, and of course deeply unprofessional.

How are these gender non conforming men women? This is the thing that is never explained. Ever.

FelicityPike · 03/02/2021 18:40

Good on them!
The more transphobia that get called out for spouting their vile “legal opinions” the better.
