Over on Twitter, an anonymous troll with 10 followers told Innocent to stop following a woman because they consider that woman to be a transphobe. Innocent agree to do so and also copy the poor woman into their reply so that their 297k followers can have a go at her too. Of course they haven't bothered to reply to all the people telling them that this is shameful behaviour, they're just dull boring women after all.
YANBU - Innocent fucked this one up & should apologize
YABU - public shaming of non-compliant women by Innocent is a good thing

I don't think they should just accept that someone is a transphobe based on one twitter user's say so but of course they are more than entitled to me against transphobia. I know on MN there are a very screachy group of women who loudly claim to speak for all women but people who tend to have more buying power (the educated, higher earning demographic) are in favour of trans rights.

The incredibly women VS trans war the commentors here like to pretend exists just isn't the case. Middle class Tumblr feminists vs trans rights yes fine. That's a small, middle england demographic innocent can afford to lose though. Sorry - you're just not that important.

Brighterthansunflowers · 29/01/2021 16:26

YANBU

I don’t really know why Innocent would care about one troll making allegations. But even if they reviewed the account and felt it didn’t match their brand values (if a smoothie company feels gender forms part of their brand values that’s odd but whatever), they could just unfollow her and not comment. Or make a statement that they support trans rights and will unfollow any accounts they believe to be transphobic, without naming anyone. Not saying i agree with this, but it’s a way to show off their wokeness without slandering anyone. But yes, the way they’ve gone about it is encouraging online bullying and trolling and is completely inappropriate and unprofessional.

6 hours since the Innocent account last tweeted. I think an adult has changed the login passwordGrin
There's probably been a fraught zoom call between the bananas and the papayas at sugar slop hq

A screachy (sic) group of women?! Misogynistic much?

And the rest of your post is just ludicrous. ‘The educated, higher earning demographic’ WTF?

DrudgeJedd · 29/01/2021 16:33

Oi DrunkTank I don't mind you insinuating that I'm common but my dulcet northern tones are anything but screeching.

Vtech, no I'm not trying to justify an abhorrent slur, you called her horrid, you said she said this, she didn't, she retweeted someone else.

Lockheart · 29/01/2021 16:39

This is not online bullying. Not following someone on twitter is not bullying.

I might not agree with their decision but they can follow (or not follow) whoever they please.

Vtech · 29/01/2021 16:42

Why do you think retweeting it is ok? She is clearly endorsing the view. It’s not really relevant whether she said it or simply retweeted it in agreement.

saraclara · 29/01/2021 16:45

@Lockheart

Of course. And they could have unfollowed her quietly and then just got on with their business. But in replying to this guy publically and copying her in, they opened her up to a world of hurt. Which is absolutely wrong, given the trolls out there who will make her life, and probably that of any family she has, hell.

Whether we agree with her or not, she's entitled to her opinion, and Innocent should not have opened her up to abuse by their actions.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 29/01/2021 16:50

Someone's getting fired. This was so badly handled.

Lockheart · 29/01/2021 16:50

@saraclara twitter automatically tags everyone in the conversation - the odd man who originally tweeted tagged her into it, not innocent.

Innocent also has no control over the actions of online trolls - you can't blame them for the behaviour of others.

I do disagree with the position innocent is taking, but I really don't see this as bullying.

TheBuffster · 29/01/2021 16:52

Won't be buying innocent. Thanks for the heads up. Is there a list of these companies that clearly don't want my woman's money? Would make life a lot easier.
Twitter sounds like an absolute nightmare. I'm so glad I'm too old and set in my ways to figure out how to use it.

snailsraces · 29/01/2021 16:56

Yanbu. I won't be buying their smoothies any more.

Ah, thanks. I rarely go on twitter so I hadn't picked that up.

But surely they could still have unfollowed her quietly?

AngeloMysterioso · 29/01/2021 17:03

They’re getting ratio’d quite impressively Grin

DrudgeJedd · 29/01/2021 17:06

Lockhart it is very easy to reply to a tweet without including someone who is tagged in the original. Someone who actually tweets for a living would definitely know how to do that.

Vtech

She was retweeting a person who was talking about a congresswoman who is anti semetic and spreading conspiracy theories about Jewish people, who knows why he said it, maybe he had a reaction to anti semitism and said something off the cuff.

You said she said it, she didn't, that is what I am telling you.

I’m a fairly high earning, highly educated young woman and I have huge issues with trans activism - it’s not just DM readers. I don’t like smoothies though so my custom doesn’t matter to Innocent either way!

Innocent is owned by Coca-Cola by the way, for anyone that didn’t know.

Oncewasblueandyellowtwo · 29/01/2021 17:13

sara

Yea they could have just unfollowed her without saying anything.

Lockheart · 29/01/2021 17:13

@saraclara they could indeed, but I presume they must have some sort of social media policy governing whether they reply to people.

I agree it's a poor choice and has been badly handled, but that doesn't necessarily make it bullying.

Lockheart · 29/01/2021 17:15

@DrudgeJedd

And what practical difference would it make since she was tagged into the original tweet? If people want to pile on all they'd have to do is scroll up slightly.
DrudgeJedd · 29/01/2021 17:21

Yeah you're right. They definitely handled this well, crack on.
