To ask if you think there is a catch with this house?

Basically that. A young (talking uni age) relative with 30k saved up for a house deposit has seen it and thinks it’s the lucky jackpot.

Well, the rooms are tiny but I'd have been thrilled to be able to get something like that at the same age!

Chillypenguin · 27/01/2021 13:43

Why would there be a catch? A quick look at sold prices shows it’s about average for the area, and it’s not in great aesthetic condition.

My question would be do they have jobs in the area? Do they like Bradford? At uni age why get tied down with a house.

ElizabethofpeanutYorkies · 27/01/2021 13:43

What is next to / behind the railings?

Brunt0n · 27/01/2021 13:45

The catch is that it’s quite cramped, badly decorated and in a cheap area

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 27/01/2021 13:45

I'm guessing the 'catch' is the area isn't particularly good (I don't know Bradford socant comment specifically, but own in another part of West Yorkshire where in some parts of town that price would be right, but a mile away it would be twice the price)

Sparklesocks · 27/01/2021 13:45

Looks a bit tired and the rooms are quite small (beds squeezed between walls), but otherwise can’t see any major issues.

Shoxfordian · 27/01/2021 13:46

I like the porch
Seems quite small and I don’t know anything about the area so maybe that’s the catch

Youmeanyouvelostyourkey · 27/01/2021 13:46

looks like it's next to a railway line

whereismormonjesus · 27/01/2021 13:46

It’s my nephew and he’s asked me for advice since his mum wants him to save up his deposit more.

I’ve never actually bought a house so shamelessly asking here so I can reply to his text later with ‘my’ opinion.

He’s uni age but dropped out and is working full-time. Would have to find a new job. He isn’t from Bradford but from a huge up and coming northern city not a million miles away from Bradford.

PissedOffProf · 27/01/2021 13:47

No catch. It's size (small) and location (rough).

Splashingincuddles · 27/01/2021 13:47

Clearly should be a 2 bed. I’d want to know more about area and outside space.

LemmysAceCard · 27/01/2021 13:49

Looks like bedroom 2 is a flying freehold as in its over the alleyway, some lenders dont like them.

Sparklesocks · 27/01/2021 13:50

Can’t speak for the area as I don’t know it, but has been researched it himself? Looked at things like crime rates, things to do, average prices for property in that area etc? Scoped it out in person?
Also looks like there isn’t a drive so parking might be tricky (if he drives).

HollowTalk · 27/01/2021 13:50

If you enter the postcode here then you will see the local crime rate.

Thatsmycupoftea · 27/01/2021 13:51

It's the location trust me

RaspberryCoulis · 27/01/2021 13:51

It's a very standard terraced house in an area with lots of other terraced houses.

Looking on streetview there is a footpath running down the side of the railings, and a basketball court. Noise potential.

Love51 · 27/01/2021 13:53

I was interested in buying this house but now my Auntie has put it on Mumsnet it has had thousands of views and the owners want to increase the price by £20k.

Thatsmycupoftea · 27/01/2021 13:54

@love51 are you the nephew

Love51 · 27/01/2021 13:55

I live in a different grim northern town and you can't get much for under £80k. So I would assume it is in a rough area. Do lots of drive by at different times to ascertain if it is something you can live with.

Thatsmycupoftea · 27/01/2021 13:56

Just seems a bit strange that this has all happened in the last few minutes and now the price has gone up?? Think it must be a troll post

Love51 · 27/01/2021 13:56

@Thatsmycupoftea not really, just being facetious.

KatyaZamolodchikova · 27/01/2021 13:57

@Thatsmycupoftea

It's the location trust me
Yep. I do live in Bradford and nothing at all could persuade me to move here, between Leeds Road & Barkerend. Nothing. Crime rates are high, car insurance will be astronomical based on no one in the area having any, it is deprived and rough.
Thatsmycupoftea · 27/01/2021 13:57

@love51 I'm tired and hormonal please ignore me

Rolle · 27/01/2021 13:58

House seems decent but location would put me off and is probably the reason its prices this way - looks to be next to a recreational area so potentially a source of anti social or noisy behaviour. But I am a misery guts. If they are serious, would definitely suggest driving through at various times to assess what the area is like - with current restrictions you might not get the full picture of this.
