To be sick of feckin Professor Brian Cox...

...and his "even I'm struggling" on that BBC advert. I know someone else will have scripted it but dear god, it's so patronising.

For anyone who hasn't heard it, it's basically him telling us he's a genius who studies space and whatnot, and even he is struggling with teaching his kids at home.

Why wouldn't he be finding it hard? As far as I know he's not a qualified primary teacher. Patronising git.

I'm sure the huge amount of money he charges for his live shows he could get a tutor or the mumsnet suggestion of a nanny.
I wanted to take dd and the tickets at our local theatre were more than a weather end production!

TodgerStrunk · 26/01/2021 08:14

Perhaps Brian Cox's children find him as irritating as 65% of the population?

My DC's head teacher has one infant aged child. He's HT of a secondary of 1800 kids. He said in a newsletter that 'it's not as easy as we make it look' and he would rather teach all of our children (at the same time was the inference) than have to teach his own.

Janegrey333 · 26/01/2021 10:37

Professor Cox has a lovely voice.I could listen to him all day.

Janegrey333 · 26/01/2021 10:38

I like him, full stop.

HavelockVetinari · 26/01/2021 10:41

He's reassuring people struggling with home-schooling that no, they're not stupid - he's literally a genius and still finds it hard.

Loads of parents are finding it tough and are being really hard on themselves and feeling thick - I think the message is a really important one. Good for him!

MedusasBadHairDay · 26/01/2021 10:46

What Havelock said. Some people will find it reassuring to be reminded that not being able to homeschool kids doesn't mean you are stupid.

I'm glad you haven't felt that way, so don't find it reassuring, but others have and do benefit from reminders like that.

LivingMyBestLife2020 · 26/01/2021 11:00

I like him. His voice is so soothing

LunaNorth · 26/01/2021 11:06

Never mind, Brian. Things can only get better.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 26/01/2021 11:08

Would you prefere Kathy Burke reprised Waynetta and did it instead?

It's one of a number of adverts trying to reassure a somewhat scared public. You noticed it because it irritates you... there are others that are worse! The more scary ones that are becoming more necessary as winter kicks in and covid rates aren't slowing as quickly as they did last year! Public patience is waning, all sorts of weird reasoning is coming to the fore and some people are starting to believe all the anti whatever fuckwittery!

But then again Denise Welch thinks thay are all gaslighting bollocks... so what do I know?

CuriousaboutSamphire · 26/01/2021 11:08

@LunaNorth you win t'internet for the day Grin

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 26/01/2021 11:09

LunaNorth 😂 😂 😂

GeordieGreigsButtButtZoom · 26/01/2021 11:11

YABU. Brian Cox is heavenly in every sense. He's saying that he makes a living out of being clever and he's struggling, so if you are too, it's not because you're thick.

Radio4Rocks · 26/01/2021 11:12

YABU. He's lovely.

usernamechocolat · 26/01/2021 11:13

Oh no why does everyone seem to dislike him !

There’s a HUGE difference between studying something you are good at and enjoy as an adult in your own time, possibly in peace and quiet and teaching children of varying abilities things you may not understand ! (Some of the abbreviations for my 8 year olds work have me stumped !) it’s also hard with multiple children on different online schedules so yes he may well be struggling too !

I really like him btw I find his programmes about space that I’ve watched almost hypnotic it quite literally transports you somewhere else entirely and I do love a bit of passion behind intelligence and you can tell he has that for his subject. The David Attenborough of space

GeidiPrimes · 26/01/2021 11:15

Not a primary teacher no, but he has taught.

Toilenstripes · 26/01/2021 11:17

I like him and don’t find the advert patronising at all. I’d really like to see Andrew Cotter do an ad with his dogs, Mabel and Olive. 😃

I can recommend Steve Backshall shows. Took GS and Steve Backshall was lovely with the kids, spent time in the foyer signing books and photos and chatting to the children. The show was really entertaining and I don't think it was very expensive, I'm too tight to do expensive.

Elderly relative was a sister at GOSH, she had one child and said it was easier to deal with a ward full of kids that her own.
ancientgran · 26/01/2021 11:22

I've always found him irritating, nothing to do with the advert. He's a bit marmite isn't he?

CuriousaboutSamphire · 26/01/2021 11:23

@GeidiPrimes

Not really. He lectured. Very different skill set!
SheldonesqueIsAnExVirgin · 26/01/2021 11:25

yanbu

He makes my intestines try to escape.

HumphreyCobblers · 26/01/2021 11:27

I haven’t seen the advert but I adore him. So there. I want him and his wife to be my friend.

Same 🤣
Winter2020 · 26/01/2021 11:29

I watched postman pat on Iplayer yesterday - guest starring Brian Cox! They had changed his name to protect his identity but it was definitely him.

Series 3: episode 26. Postman Pat and the space suit.

UnityUnited · 26/01/2021 11:29

Nothing against him but don’t him and his wife think every woman on the planet fancies him?
