...and his "even I'm struggling" on that BBC advert. I know someone else will have scripted it but dear god, it's so patronising.

For anyone who hasn't heard it, it's basically him telling us he's a genius who studies space and whatnot, and even he is struggling with teaching his kids at home.

Why wouldn't he be finding it hard? As far as I know he's not a qualified primary teacher. Patronising git.

I love him so on that basis YABU.

My friends husband is a astro physicist and ex lecturer. Frightemly smart. I cant imagine him teaching say art or PE. Ultra smart doesn't= practically perfect in every way

chomalungma · 26/01/2021 19:18

I think he's great

Does anyone else listen to The Infinite Monkey Cage?

infinitediamonds · 26/01/2021 19:22

He occupied over 5 hours of my nine year old's time a few weeks ago with his series on the planets. Love the man.

Smiledwiththerisingsun · 26/01/2021 19:29

He annoys the crap out of me anyway.
Haven't seen the advert thankfully.

Smiledwiththerisingsun · 26/01/2021 19:31

Ooo @infinitediamonds good tip! I'll just leave the room then 😆

Ok, that's pretty much worth a knighthood

The cousin is a stereotypical scruffy academic who is very suited to life in a lab, so no, not his intended audience.

Funnily enough he is clever too @Janegrey333. It’s sort of necessary for being an academic.

user1471565182 · 26/01/2021 20:27

I dont really get why people love the programs to be honest, and im going to say it, Attenborough bores me to tears as well but I usually love documentaries on boring shit.

user1471565182 · 26/01/2021 20:29

I also suspect loads of people also find Attenborough boring (although I do really like him as a person and think he does great work and all that) but put themselves through it because its taboo to say you cant be arsed watching some monkeys grooming for 18 hours.

LunaNorth · 26/01/2021 20:32

I’m not an Attenborough fan Blush

I do realise that. Both my husband and a nephew are academics. But in any case, Brian Cox is a professor. He is very charismatic and very clever.

Try again.

I like him. Kids are doing space in school so doing the planets series.

tempester28 · 26/01/2021 20:45

You can’t say anything bad about Brian Cox! He is brilliant.

I like Brian, a very soothing man. The first time I saw him on TV I thought it was a parody of a nature documentary.

I would definitely contest that - there are some right fecking eejits about the place claiming academic credentials. Look at Victoria Ivy/Rachel McKinnon* who reckons humans aren't a sexually bimorphic species!
  • apparently has been sacked for being shit
AnnabelleMarx · 26/01/2021 22:04

Certainly not essential to be clever to hold an academic position.....

I remember seeing Brian Cox on an episode of QI and he clearly struggled when the content wasn’t about space. Not surprised he finds it hard to homeschool.

Lemons1571 · 26/01/2021 22:51

Can anyone link to the advert? I need to see this!

Grin just imagining whatever homework his kids get being twisted into being about space
Canwecancel2020 · 26/01/2021 22:59

I like him, but the scripting of the ad is a bit cringe

BotanyBetty · 26/01/2021 23:03

As a previous poster said, every time he's on telly I feel compelled to shout 'Keep it on me Gary!' Grin

He's done a lot to make some difficult concepts more accessible (also yes, I would absolutely shag him into next week)

I like him but I bet his colleagues hate him.

EugenesAxe · 27/01/2021 00:54

Professor Cox has a lovely voice.I could listen to him all day.

Weird! His voice is the thing about him that I hate the most. Makes my hairs stand on end - sort of what a creeping, harmless-looking but actually poisonous gas might sound like if it could talk.
