To be sick of feckin Professor Brian Cox...

...and his "even I'm struggling" on that BBC advert. I know someone else will have scripted it but dear god, it's so patronising.

For anyone who hasn't heard it, it's basically him telling us he's a genius who studies space and whatnot, and even he is struggling with teaching his kids at home.

Why wouldn't he be finding it hard? As far as I know he's not a qualified primary teacher. Patronising git.

He’s a middle aged man pretending to be a young man!!

mids2019 · 26/01/2021 12:42

I agree. I don't think Brian Cox is Einstein or particularly renound in physics fields. Good at outreach though. I was watching the One Show where they mistakenly attributed relativistic length contraction to him.....hope people don't follow this show too much.

ShinyMe · 26/01/2021 12:47

I can't bear him and his incessant grinning.

unmarkedbythat · 26/01/2021 12:47

I really like him! But to be honest anyone could do a "in these hard times..." advert right now and it would annoy me.

How so?

@LunaNorth

Never mind, Brian. Things can only get better.
🤣🤣🤣🤣💜

Oh, professor Brian Cox. His name always has to prefixed with ‘The lovely...,’ because he is fabulous. I don’t fancy him at all, but I still think he’s lovely.

funtimefrank · 26/01/2021 13:21

My brother used to work with him when they were doing their phds. Let us say his views on him were robust (my brother had a particular hatred of his sock/tracksuit combo and used the phrase 'that c*nt in D:ream' more than once).

On the other hand he did some great stuff for a girls in science group my cousin runs so fair play in that.

Yewrobin · 26/01/2021 13:23

I find him a bit irritating - and on the basis he’s their parent ,I bet his kids do too which never helps when homeschooling

I'd say that lattermost point more than compensates for how he dressed (people are supposed to go sockless with trackies?) while he was a student. Especially since that must have been early 90s sort of time, when everyone was dressing like inflatable cartoon characters.
BrookePalomoV · 26/01/2021 13:28

I think he's fascinating. At last a physicist who talks to the common person in language they understand. I've learnt so much from him. He used to be in a band apparently so he's a musician as well - how do some people get to be so clever (and nice).

JovialNickname · 26/01/2021 13:34

His face is too big on the television on that BBC ad. If he was a bit further away from the camera it would be a bit less "ARGH!! Why is that poncey twat in my living room" and a bit more "Oh it's Brian Cox come to say hello".

Looks like music and astrophysics might go well together. Look at Brian May.
SusannahSophia · 26/01/2021 13:39

Music, astrophysics and Brians!

WinterdiscontentGlorioussummer · 26/01/2021 13:44

My ds is a physicist, a really good singer (paid), do you think I made a mistake not naming him Brian Grin.

Didn't know Brian May was a physicist, am definitely going to hold this over ds' head.

Topseyt · 26/01/2021 13:44

I like him. I think he could even teach me physics, unlike the boring old drones we had at school who made it so boring I could have dozed off in their lessons.

I don't think the advert is at all patronising.

BlueSuffragette · 26/01/2021 13:51

I would live to go to one of his lectures. He's so clever and yet makes his explanations so interesting.

Laiste · 26/01/2021 13:54

I tend to hate everybody but i find BC ok actually. He's always nice and calm.

Ear worm for the day everyone:

NettleTea · 26/01/2021 13:55

I like him
And I like his wife

Laiste · 26/01/2021 13:57

This is fun as well Grin

And Dara O'Briain, though he does funny stuff, rather than music.
Hopeishere52 · 26/01/2021 14:12

I think he has helped make physics and science more accessible and interesting to a wider audience.

WTAFIhavelosttheferret · 26/01/2021 14:16

He always says hello to me as if I know him and I really dont.

Hotzenplotz · 26/01/2021 14:25

Rubbish. He's great.

Thewithesarehere · 26/01/2021 14:39

This is quite annoying, considering covid has shown a significant impact on women academics vs men.
