...and his "even I'm struggling" on that BBC advert. I know someone else will have scripted it but dear god, it's so patronising.

For anyone who hasn't heard it, it's basically him telling us he's a genius who studies space and whatnot, and even he is struggling with teaching his kids at home.

Why wouldn't he be finding it hard? As far as I know he's not a qualified primary teacher. Patronising git.

@UnityUnited

Nothing against him but don’t him and his wife think every woman on the planet fancies him?
Do they ? I mean I like him but definitely don’t fancy him !
UnityUnited · 26/01/2021 11:37

I got that impression. Maybe it was when he first became well known.

PurpleRainDancer · 26/01/2021 11:37

@LunaNorth

Never mind, Brian. Things can only get better.
Genius Grin
TheVanguardSix · 26/01/2021 11:39

If he'd been my little brother, I'd have put slap on his face all day long. Those lips. Maybe he's born with it. Maybe it's Maybelline!

I don't know, but I fancy the pants off him so I can't argue.
Spacecudet · 26/01/2021 11:42

I love Brian Cox.

DioneTheDiabolist · 26/01/2021 11:44

I don't think he means to sound patronising, I think he just has a naturally patronising/boring tone to his voice. It's so bad that he even manages to make everything sound dull.

Is he a genius? What genius thing has he done?

Coquohvan · 26/01/2021 11:44

One of the few scientists who explain scientific things in plain English that I can understand.

lubeybooby · 26/01/2021 11:46

I prefer Jim Al-Khalili

JazzyGeoff · 26/01/2021 11:50

I like him but neither me nor DH can stop ourselves from saying

'On me Gary...stay on me'

in his accent, which comes from a comedy show several years ago where actors used to do impressions of TV stars ('Gary'was supposedly BC's camera man!)

If anyone else knows what the hell im talking about, let me know as we can never remember the name of it Grin

TwoZeroTwoZero · 26/01/2021 11:54

I don't mind him patronising at all and tbf I understand where he's coming from because I'm a primary school supply teacher who is currently on furlough. I'm also struggling with teaching my own children and find it much easier and less stressful to teach a class full of strangers' children.

jimjamjoo · 26/01/2021 11:58

I babysat for him once! He was a lovely man and his wife was lovely too.

peak2021 · 26/01/2021 11:59

Who would the OP prefer was giving messages about homelearning then instead?

Fizbosshoes · 26/01/2021 12:06

I saw the advert and didn't give it a second thought apart from wondering if bbc bitesize covers gcse physics as DD has a wildly innaccurate assumption that I will remember or understand anything from my own gcses

Teaching uni students is very different to primary kids and a very different skill set. I say this as the person teaching a Y3 child and DH in the background teaching adults about the electricity market.

I'm not a fan of Brian Cox but found the advert lovely rather than patronising, reassuring parents that it is hard for most parents/carers.

CustardySergeant · 26/01/2021 12:19

I mean this very caringly, but Brian Cox always reminds me of a ventriloquist's dummy. I half expect him to say "gottle of geer".

contrmary · 26/01/2021 12:20

YANBU. The truth will come out eventually.

FingerDancer · 26/01/2021 12:23

I would climb Brian cox like a tree. Therefore YABU.

Elai1978 · 26/01/2021 12:30

Also remember that one of his real talents is taking really difficult subject matter and breaking it down so that mere mortals can understand.

AryaStarkWolf · 26/01/2021 12:30

@GeordieGreigsButtButtZoom

YABU. Brian Cox is heavenly in every sense. He's saying that he makes a living out of being clever and he's struggling, so if you are too, it's not because you're thick.
This. Get a grip
IntermittentParps · 26/01/2021 12:31

I've never liked him, his plump cheeks and shiny face.

UseOfWeapons · 26/01/2021 12:33

I find myself getting distracted by the question, ‘ Has he had Botox/face lift or not?’ And like a PP, and waiting for him to break into song.
I’ve read a couple of his books, and a few of his papers, but I prefer the style of Richard Feynman....or Jim Al -Khalili, and definitely Hawking!

I’d like to know his skincare routing tbh. Bet he uses retinol and hyalauronic acid
