The STUNNING footage of Officer Goodman heroically directing Sen. Romney to quickly go back in the other direction as rioters breached the Capitol rly demonstrates how close rioters were to the Vice President & almost all senators in the Chamber, where the trial is being held

lionheart · 10/02/2021 21:52

The attack on Nancy Pelosi's office and her poor staff ...

Roussette · 10/02/2021 21:52

And how terrifying Senators and Aides locked themselves in an office whilst a mob was trying to break the door down. Shock

OP posts:
Roussette · 10/02/2021 21:54

Yes... sorry... it could be her staff and not Senators. I missed exactly who it was, but they were hiding under a desk in an office.

What was absolutely chilling to me was the mob calling out 'Nancy, Nancy!'

It was like something out of a horror film

And yet Hawley & GOP senators refuse to acknowledge the evidence presented to the Senate. So disgusting, I wonder how they can sleep at night.

QuestionableDanceMoves · 10/02/2021 22:07

Forgive me for being dense but, given the widespread prior reporting of potential trouble on 6 January, why were there so few police? Who was that down to?

NotaRealLawyer · 10/02/2021 22:08

Oath keeper was given instructions to: "turn on gas, seal them in"
Shock

ListeningQuietly · 10/02/2021 22:14

@whiteroom

Emerging from my Lurkers Lair here. Part 1 of a new series on on BBC2 tonight at 9:00pm , Trump Takes On The World if you can bear to watch anymore of him.
It was good and a useful reminder of how we got here

Jeremy Hunt was almost sympathetic to watch almost

lionheart · 10/02/2021 22:14

'We're here!'

This mob has watched too many movies.

lionheart · 10/02/2021 22:16

@NotaRealLawyer

Is that zip tie guy lionheart? Not surprised. Horrible reading that. I hope he spends a lot of time in prison.
I don't know but they are talking about those two men now.
whatanotherpalava · 10/02/2021 22:21

Shameful that rep. senators' lives were under threat too that day and they haven't the guts to convict Trump.

One wonders if even had one of their own lost their lives would they still be so intransigent?

DuncinToffee · 10/02/2021 22:24

House Impeachment Manager @RepSwalwell shows Senators video demonstrating how close they were to the mob - 58 steps - and how rioters carried restraining cuffs, ransacked their desks ...and reminds that 140 officers were injured, along with the 2 who died

HoneysuckIejasmine · 10/02/2021 22:29

Does anyone have a link to the Romney/Goodman footage? I see references in tweets but no footage.

minou123 · 10/02/2021 22:30

Are they now on a 45 min break?

I'm not sure I'll stay up for the end, but I'll give it a go.

Zebracat · 10/02/2021 22:42

Wow, watching this footage, Surely this will change minds of The Republican voters, if not their representatives?
I want to know why the National Guard took so long, because I think that was corruption at the heart of Government.

Roussette · 10/02/2021 22:42

Questionable re the policing. I dont totally understand it, but I think mistakes were made.
Here's quite a good article going through it... Smile

I don't honestly see how making sure everyone sees again just how horrific the riot in the Capitol was will help, if I am honest: unless it is proved conclusively that Trump instigated it all, that it happened won't get him impeached.

And that will be what the Republicans are saying to themselves: "They don't need to go on and on telling me what happened; I know what it was like, I was there; but what exactly has it got to do with the President? He wasn't there..."

I doubt that anyone could pretend it hadn't happened, after all. What they are pretending to themselves is that Trump didn't instigate it, and showing it doesn't prove that he did.

DuncinToffee · 10/02/2021 22:56

Wow what a game!

DuncinToffee · 10/02/2021 22:57

Oops wrong thread, ignore me Blush

Roussette · 10/02/2021 23:03

Well.... if it doesn't change some minds, I don't know what will.

As a CNN reporter said... Whatever happens, this is being chronicled for history. Quite right.

Personally I think it helps to show all of this. The steps leading up to it since the Election. The literally hundreds of tweets from Trump shaping this over that period. Then the unseen footage. How close it all was and how it really was an assault on democracy and how much worse it could have been.
A black day in the history books for America.

The position many GOP senators are taking in response to evidence laid out today is: yes, it was horrible, but we can't convict.

"We want justice. But that doesn't mean that we can go against what we believe to be constitutionally limited authority," Rounds tells pool

DuncinToffee · 10/02/2021 23:13

Several GOP senators make clear they view the footage as chilling and are shaken by what they saw - but are singaling they won’t change their plans to vote to acquit

“Same way that I was before,” Sen. Mike Braun told me when asked if he was shaken.
Braun added: “When you think the process is flawed in the first place,” it’s hard to vote to convict.

“Who wouldn’t be” shaken? said Sen. Ron Johnson. But he added that he blames the rioters - not Trump.
