About friends buying goods during covid?

I've had covid for over a week now, been in with 3 dcs, 2 of whom have also tested positive

A few friends have said 'if you need anything just let me know' and I've asked for a few bits.

My friend bought me £6 worth of stuff and said 'the receipt is in the bag can you put it in my account'
My other friend called over last night and I asked if she could bring some crisps & popcorn and she also said it was about £4 the receipt is in the bag

I'm just wondering AIBU to think that dropping £4-£6 worth of shopping off I wouldn't ask for that back off a friend (and I'm not well off, single parent nhs worker)
If it was a £20 shop upwards that would be different

Maybe I'm wrong, AIBU?

I think if you asked for specific items it is reasonable to expect some kind of recompense but not if they added to your shop.

Well if it was milk and a loaf of bread no I wouldn’t, but I wouldn’t have even got you popcorn and crisps to be honest but yes I’d have asked for the money!

YABU. Maybe £4 is a lot to them or perhaps they are fed up of being taken for a ride by people who want something from them for free.

Why should they do your shopping for you for free? They are doing you a favour while you're sick, don't expect free food too.

Going to assume you would have bought for them and not expected the money? If so means you are a kind and generous person, and don't understand when others don't reciprocate.

They went to a shop in a pandemic to buy you a "few bits" of unnecessary snack food, and you think THEY should pay for it?

YABU. I probably wouldn’t ask for £4 or so back, but that doesn’t mean I should expect others to do the same. You should assume you’re paying until offered otherwise. The favour was picking up and delivering the goodies, not the expense of buying them. You’re expecting too much.

Of course you pay them back! They bought something for you. You arent entitled to free stuff. These days, with people suffering financially, you always pay your way.

YABU. As a pp said, maybe not for bread and milk, but definitely wouldn't be paying out myself because you fancy popcorn!
Family brought us bread and milk to tide us over til our online order arrived when we had covid, they didn't want money but we still offered.

Because you're a "single parent NHS worker" you're entitled to free stuff off your mates? What planet do you live on?!
You should count yourself lucky you have some really lovely friends that are prepared to go out of their way to shop for you.

I can barely afford my own food shopping at the moment let alone someone elses...what a cheek.

Tbh, they might think that you would prefer to pay and that it will be easier that way for you to ask them again if you need something. Think about it - if they had paid for it, would you have felt able to ask twice? I know I wouldn't.
