About friends buying goods during covid?

MozzchopsThirty · 22/01/2021 15:40

I've had covid for over a week now, been in with 3 dcs, 2 of whom have also tested positive

A few friends have said 'if you need anything just let me know' and I've asked for a few bits.

My friend bought me £6 worth of stuff and said 'the receipt is in the bag can you put it in my account'
My other friend called over last night and I asked if she could bring some crisps & popcorn and she also said it was about £4 the receipt is in the bag

I'm just wondering AIBU to think that dropping £4-£6 worth of shopping off I wouldn't ask for that back off a friend (and I'm not well off, single parent nhs worker)
If it was a £20 shop upwards that would be different

Maybe I'm wrong, AIBU?

Why should you get free stuff?

lastqueenofscotland · 22/01/2021 15:42

YABVVVU if you’ve asked for it of course you should pay back!

Goawayquickly · 22/01/2021 15:42

Yes, YABVU - if you ask for shopping you pay of course.

LIZS · 22/01/2021 15:42

I think if you asked for specific items it is reasonable to expect some kind of recompense but not if they added to your shop.

raspberryk · 22/01/2021 15:42

Well if it was milk and a loaf of bread no I wouldn’t, but I wouldn’t have even got you popcorn and crisps to be honest but yes I’d have asked for the money!

Spacerader · 22/01/2021 15:43

Yabu, you wanted the stuff so pay up.

Boopeedoop · 22/01/2021 15:43

Imagine if they did that for half a dozen friends.

SnowFields · 22/01/2021 15:44

YABU. Maybe £4 is a lot to them or perhaps they are fed up of being taken for a ride by people who want something from them for free.

Ch3rish · 22/01/2021 15:44

Of course you should pay, how bizarre. We're you planning on asking 20 friends and getting your weekly shop for free Grin

Firenight · 22/01/2021 15:44

Of course you owe them. Dont ask for shopping you can't afford! Dead cheeky even thinking that.

Shitzngiggles · 22/01/2021 15:44

Of course you should pay them back whatever the amount. They have also gone out of their way for you.

Sirzy · 22/01/2021 15:45

Yabu.

They are doing a nice thing by shopping for you. Cheeky to expect them to pay for it too.

Godimabitch · 22/01/2021 15:45

YABVU why should they pay for your food?! And you sent someone to the shop for crisps and popcorn? I'd think you were a right CF just for that, never mind expecting me to pay for it aswell.

CakeRequired · 22/01/2021 15:45

Why should they do your shopping for you for free? They are doing you a favour while you're sick, don't expect free food too.

TinyTroubleMaker · 22/01/2021 15:46

Going to assume you would have bought for them and not expected the money? If so means you are a kind and generous person, and don't understand when others don't reciprocate.

If that's not the case of course YABVVVU

ZoeTurtle · 22/01/2021 15:46

They went to a shop in a pandemic to buy you a "few bits" of unnecessary snack food, and you think THEY should pay for it?

I really want to understand how people become so self-absorbed and selfish.

fairynick · 22/01/2021 15:47

YABU. I probably wouldn’t ask for £4 or so back, but that doesn’t mean I should expect others to do the same. You should assume you’re paying until offered otherwise. The favour was picking up and delivering the goodies, not the expense of buying them. You’re expecting too much.

TwirpingBird · 22/01/2021 15:47

Of course you pay them back! They bought something for you. You arent entitled to free stuff. These days, with people suffering financially, you always pay your way.

huuskymam · 22/01/2021 15:47

Why do you think you should get them for free???

Notnt · 22/01/2021 15:47

YABU. As a pp said, maybe not for bread and milk, but definitely wouldn't be paying out myself because you fancy popcorn!
Family brought us bread and milk to tide us over til our online order arrived when we had covid, they didn't want money but we still offered.

Redshoeblueshoe · 22/01/2021 15:47

FFS you've got covid, and your asking your mates to pop round with treats.
If I wrote what I'm actually thinking I'd probably get banned 🚫

PurpleDaisies · 22/01/2021 15:47

You are being totally unreasonable.

So unreasonable I’m wondering if this is a reverse and you’re one of the friends who did the shopping.

FrostyChocolateMilkshake · 22/01/2021 15:48

Because you're a "single parent NHS worker" you're entitled to free stuff off your mates? What planet do you live on?!
You should count yourself lucky you have some really lovely friends that are prepared to go out of their way to shop for you.

myusernamewastakenbyme · 22/01/2021 15:48

I can barely afford my own food shopping at the moment let alone someone elses...what a cheek.

AlexaShutUp · 22/01/2021 15:48

YABU.

Tbh, they might think that you would prefer to pay and that it will be easier that way for you to ask them again if you need something. Think about it - if they had paid for it, would you have felt able to ask twice? I know I wouldn't.
