Bloody squirrels

So sat at home today on a day off and noticed a couple of squirrels on the balcony. I think they might be living on the balcony next door as there’s a gap between the two balconies. I’ve rung the housing association abs their going to get pest control to get in touch. But I’m a vegan abs the thought of finding a dead squirrel on the balcony makes me feel a bit queasy 😬.
Any suggestions on how to discourage the buggers. I’m on the second floor.

vodkaredbullgirl · 22/01/2021 05:47

Squirrels are cute.

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 22/01/2021 05:48

Oh well, it resulted in some lovely squirrel photos at least!

You all obviously have well behave phones and not fat fingers bike is VILE🤣

CostaDelCovid · 22/01/2021 05:58

Here's your answer... P_

CostaDelCovid · 22/01/2021 06:00

@AthelstaneTheUnready

OP, throw some peanuts on next door's balcony and they'll be off. Very keen on peanuts they are.
What a beautiful little squirrel! I just LOVE that white furry belly!!! 😍
SteppinOutwithMyBaby · 22/01/2021 06:05

I'm Australian – home to many super cute, furry animals. When I visited Canada years ago, the thing that made me most excited was the sight of a grey squirrel in the wild. Much more so than, for example, Niagara Falls.

SmidgenofaPigeon · 22/01/2021 07:41

How are your squirrels today OP?

redsquirrelfan · 22/01/2021 07:58

The squirrels in my garden are getting cheeky and looking into the house to see what we are doing and if we have any acorns. They're quite cute but a nightmare if they get into the loft as they will chew anything for the sheer fun of it.

Sadly we only have greys where I am. As the username suggests, I like the red ones (it was red squirrel appreciation day yesterday and there were loads of cute videos and photos on Twitter). I don't think I've ever seen reds in the UK but I have seen them in continental Europe (though they're a bit different and some are black).

SmidgenofaPigeon · 22/01/2021 07:59

@redsquirrelfan Ooh yeah I loved the little black squirrels I saw in Berlin!

Indoctro · 22/01/2021 08:23

Send them to me I'd love squirrels

I live in the country but back onto farm land with no trees, I have loads of bird feeders and pray one day a squirrel finds us

I'd absolutely love squirrels to come visit me

I can live in hope 🥰

CryingHelps · 22/01/2021 09:23

I'm sure you don't look like a bag of nuts - just spat my tea out! Grin

Butchyrestingface · 22/01/2021 10:31

@NewYearNewTwatName

I'm a Vegan, wait what's that? Ewww a dirty little squirrel, just let me get my gun, to splatter the vicious little fucker.

still Vegan BTW.

LMAO. That's more or less what I was thinking, but more eloquently put. Grin Grin Grin

How the hell can anyone calling themselves a vegan take the arse at a teeny wee squirrel minding its own business in what is its natural habitat?

DenisetheMenace · 22/01/2021 10:33

Surprised to read a vegan pondering calling pest control. Isn’t that contradictory (unless you are a vegan for health reasons only).
I’d put out a feeder and enjoy watching them 🤷‍♀️

Butchyrestingface · 22/01/2021 10:35

Chomping at the bit to know what OP said in her one response (wot got deleted for breaching Talk guidelines). Grin

littlepattilou · 22/01/2021 10:39

Can't add much to what has been said @Counttotenandtryagain but they are soooo cute. As has been said, they are just looking for food.

Be kind - get some nuts (they sell them in B & M by the bucketload, really cheap,) and give them some.

Also, I agree that saying you are a vegan, yet you hate these animals and are happy for 'pest control' to annihilate them doesn't really make sense.

It seems like you are a vegan because you want to look and feel morally superior, (rather than it being a love of animals.)

billydilly · 22/01/2021 10:42

This is Sandy, his weight issues may be due to the nuts that I give him on demand. Boy, do we have a good thing going.

Awwwww, Sandy is adorable! Grin
sqirrelfriends · 22/01/2021 10:48

Oh, fgs. They won't do you any harm.

I love a squirrel, they're so cute and provide endless entertainment for DS. There's a regular visitor to our garden (a very rotund squirrel named Porky) that managed to break a branch off of my apple tree while trying to get at the bird feeder.

littlepattilou · 22/01/2021 10:49

@billydilly Sandy is a little chubster isn't he?!!! Grin Looks like me post-winter/after 3 lockdowns!

Me too!!

I think it’s hilarious that a vegan actually wants to kill animals

SmidgenofaPigeon · 22/01/2021 11:02

Well what she says didn’t make much sense, she basically said we were all horrible and she wasn’t a vegan just because it was trendy, and that if she left her doors open the squirrels would come in and bite her and her kids, and that’s definitely a thing that can happen because she’s a nurse Confused

Then she said we were all ‘bike individuals’ but no one knows what that means. Then, FUCK YOUR MUMS NET which is still making me laugh now Grin

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 22/01/2021 11:09

I can't believe MN have deleted OP's second post. It was the best bit of the thread Grin.

LaMarschallin · 22/01/2021 11:09

Then she said we were all ‘bike individuals’

A PP cleverly worked out that that was an autocorrect/typo for "vile".

Bluntness100 · 22/01/2021 11:10

Yup, that was about the size of it. She thought calling pest control was justified as they would chew the cables on the outside of the building, or get in if she left the window open and attack her or the kids, and stated as a nurse she knew about squirrel bites, so basically we couldn’t dispute squirrels attack, said she wasn’t vegan just to be trendy, then randomly called everyone bike people and shouted fuck your mumsnet.

Potentially still reading though. 🤷‍♀️.
