Bloody squirrels

Counttotenandtryagain · 21/01/2021 14:27

So sat at home today on a day off and noticed a couple of squirrels on the balcony. I think they might be living on the balcony next door as there’s a gap between the two balconies. I’ve rung the housing association abs their going to get pest control to get in touch. But I’m a vegan abs the thought of finding a dead squirrel on the balcony makes me feel a bit queasy 😬.
Any suggestions on how to discourage the buggers. I’m on the second floor.

@chocohoardersanonymous

I have 2 red squirrels that come to my garden. One of them is really tame and sits on the balcony or windowsill until I go out with some food. She even eats hazelnuts out of my hand Smile I'll see if I can attach some pictures
Those are some seriously cute squirrels THE EARS!
MolotovMocktail · 21/01/2021 19:08

This is an unexpectedly amazing thread.

PS YABVU and an arsehole OP. Poor squirrels.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 21/01/2021 19:47

You'll probably be pleased to know that since Brexit the European Directive (I can't remember the actual number) that you have to eat any animal that dies on your within your property boundaries no longer applies. Smile

By the way this is why one used to see so many carcases discarded at the side of the road... Sad

Triphazards · 21/01/2021 20:05

Is this in a very rural area?

1Morewineplease · 21/01/2021 20:16

I don't think that she's a real nurse as her language and spelling was atrocious.
Not sure she's an ethical vegan either.
Doubt she'll be back.

EllenRipley · 21/01/2021 20:46
@ellenripley

Highly unlikely they're native.
Native as in - they live here. The UK has squirrels. Unless the OP's squirrels came through the Channel Tunnel and headed straight for her window.

Bluntness100 · 21/01/2021 20:52

Oddest thread ever, poster claiming to be vegan states they made the call to pest control to have squirrels who visited their balcony killed. Then claims he or she is a nurse who treats squirrel bites so is scared of said squirrels in case they bite, and then calls everyone bike people, shouts fuck your mums net and flounces.

Confused
Caspah · 21/01/2021 20:54

I'd be surprised if many people have red squirrels in their garden, as they're confined to very small regions. We do have our regular (grey) squirrels, who have red patches, and I love them. Just as I love our regular pigeon families, and the foxes. Why should I think I was more important to this planet than these other creatures?

Besiegedbykillersquirrels · 21/01/2021 21:07

Very disappointed to find that FuckyourMumsNet was already taken as a username! Well done to whoever got it first!

AthelstaneTheUnready · 21/01/2021 21:09

OP, throw some peanuts on next door's balcony and they'll be off. Very keen on peanuts they are.

SmidgenofaPigeon · 21/01/2021 21:15

Oooh soooo lucky to have a red squirrel!!

I’ve made three trips to Brownsea Island to see them. Do they show? Do they buggery. I blame it on loud children and twats with booming voices. National Trust you see.

Gooseygoosey12345 · 21/01/2021 21:20

Hilarious, I'm vegan, save the animals, but not on my doorstep. Seriously, leave them be

@Thisseatisnotavailable

You may be plant based, but you're not actually a vegan. Just so you know.

We had baby squirrels living in our tree, last summer. We left food out for them after a bird killed their mother.

Maybe op isn't really a vegan but is actually a plant based life form
beethecrackon24995 · 21/01/2021 22:54

Jesus. What kind of vegan are you. Pest control will kill them. Leave them alone

Bluntness100 · 22/01/2021 01:36

This thread was always going to be a car crash.

No one likes the needless killing of animals, due to either sport or ignorance.

Most buildings, residential, industrial, even camp sites, have cables outside, security lights, power cables etc, squirrels don’t touch them, we all know that, they only do it if trapped inside, becayse our external cables remain untouched...,and pretending to have some form of specialist knowledge of squirrel attacks or bites on humans occuring due to being a nurse, is simply absurd. Folks aren’t getting attacked by squirrels. They are everywhere, and we leave our windows, inc bedroom, open in summer, shops their doors, squirrels don’t rush in and attack us.

So Posting about having squirrels on your balcony killed was always going to be objectionable , even without the added batshitery.

saltinesandcoffeecups · 22/01/2021 02:11

Are y’all doing ok with lockdown over there?

I stumbled into this thread and some seem as though they could do with a little diversion. I’d suggest watching the wildlife, but umm perhaps a good puzzle instead?

In other news, my thanks to the OP, I needed a nutty thread like this after a tough day.

Sinful8 · 22/01/2021 02:24

So you won't eat animals for ethical reasons but you'll kill them for the sake of squeamishness?

Sinful8 · 22/01/2021 02:25

Do you need the shelled ones?

I want scoiattolo in my garden Grin

GodOfPhwoar · 22/01/2021 02:26

That is one fucking beefcake of a squirrel in the photo!

@Bluntness100

Never seen a thread like this. Where a load of carnivores get on a vegans case for trying to have innocent animals slaughtered for no reason.
Well carnivors have a reason for slaughtering animals bred for the purpose, so you can see why they'd be offended at the senseless slaughter of a wild animal.
GodOfPhwoar · 22/01/2021 02:31

The OP doesnt want to "escape veganism " so why on earth would you wish her good luck in it

Hmm

From a non vegan

It sounds like you have 'escaped humour' though.

From a non wet blanket .
