Bloody squirrels

So sat at home today on a day off and noticed a couple of squirrels on the balcony. I think they might be living on the balcony next door as there’s a gap between the two balconies. I’ve rung the housing association abs their going to get pest control to get in touch. But I’m a vegan abs the thought of finding a dead squirrel on the balcony makes me feel a bit queasy 😬.
Any suggestions on how to discourage the buggers. I’m on the second floor.

@Summersun2020

How does being a nurse qualify you to comment on the temperament of squirrels? Is A&E overrun with victims of vicious squirrel attacks?! 🤣🤣🤣 You’re ridiculous (and no vegan).

I hope this thread is a joke!!!
If it’s not and you really are being an awful human, then I hope any squirrels you needlessly have killed haunt and stalk you in your nightmares forevermore Angry

I8toys · 21/01/2021 16:22

Am I a bike individual and what is it?

FredaFox · 21/01/2021 16:22

So I’m staying at my mums, semi rural, for the past week I’ve had noise above me in the loft keeping me awake at night, suspicion is squirrel, squirrels cause untold damage if they get in your property, two houses in the street have had them in the past, they chew everything and leave a real mess
Pest control have left squirrel and rat traps as there are no droppings to determine who is keeping me awake at night. Next door have a huge feeding station so it’s food on tap and they are coming here to sleep and play 😡
It’s illegal to release grey squirrels back into the wild and they have to be killed humanely
Please don’t think they are cute and encourage them to your homes, they are vermin

Bluntness100 · 21/01/2021 16:23

Eh no one suggested she encourage them into her home. Confused

FutureDuchessofHastings · 21/01/2021 16:24

Why would you leave your door open in this weather? You and your children could catch a chill which could be mistaken for covid and you'd have to isolate in your squirrel besieged home for ten days. Or, your children could injure themselves or fall from the balcony. Both things more probable than a squirrel entering your home and savagely attacking you and your children as you nurse from home. Wild animals typically avoid human contact as much as they can. As delicious looking I'm sure you and your children are, I'm sure you don't look like a bag of nuts so you should be safe in your beds tonight.
By the way, you're veganning wrong.

soggyandwet · 21/01/2021 16:26

OP do you realise that pest control are legally requiired to kill any grey squirrels that they capture?

TheSpottedZebra · 21/01/2021 16:28

15 years on mumsnet and ‘Fuck Your Mums Net’ has got to be one of the funniest things I’ve read. Definitely Top Ten.

SlopesOff · 21/01/2021 16:30

OP doesn't care about squirrel deaths she is more interested in bike individuals, whatever they might be.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 21/01/2021 16:30

Be careful. Netflix might nick the invading and biting squirrel idea😂

"The fluffy tail of doom"
They are cute, they are fluffy, they are deadly. A horde of squirels breaks into homes to feast on occupiers in London suburbs. Will anyone escape?

drumst1ck · 21/01/2021 16:31

This thread is providing much needed entertainment this afternoon. Top quality.

SmidgenofaPigeon · 21/01/2021 16:32

I wonder if the A&E squirrel bites are a similar scenario as when people say a random fox bit their kid to cover for the family dog? Might be a vicious pet guinea and a squirrel takes the fall.

custardbear · 21/01/2021 16:34

I've just heard through the grapevine that the squirrels like it there and the rent is peanuts

AprilThe8th · 21/01/2021 16:35

@Countotenandtryagain it's here not hear.As you were.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 21/01/2021 16:37

Ffs, don't have them killed. Just get a wooden or stone owl from the Internet or somewhere and stick it on your balcony. That'll keep them away from your precious vegan (obvs with exemption for pest control) lifestyle.

Slackarse · 21/01/2021 16:37

Give them some walnuts. What are you going to name them? 🙂

Especially if you say “Mums Net” in an Uncle Bryn voice. “The You-Tube”

I’m fairly sure this isn’t real and I very much appreciate the giggle it’s given me after a week of night shifts Grin

sadeyes21 · 21/01/2021 16:39

I am struggling to understand how, as a fellow vegan, you could call pest control on a couple of squirrels. We had a massive rat problem on my street during the lockdown, my neighbours wanted money to call out an exterminator but we said no as it goes against our core beliefs.

Ladesiderata · 21/01/2021 16:42

I think squirrels are vile and I am not a vegan!
I would hate them on a balcony. They are rats with tails and they destroy native birds eggs etc..

SchrodingersImmigrant · 21/01/2021 16:43

Rats have tails

shazshaz · 21/01/2021 16:44

Squirrels are fine in the garden but not on your balcony or in your home. We had success with chilli powder. Sprinkle it thickly where ever they walk. We also used a super soaker filled with water and a whole pack of chilli powder to chase them away.

Hotzenplotz · 21/01/2021 16:45

A cyclepath.

I think squirrels are vile

Wow.

Just an animal trying to survive surely?
