Hand hold please - on train trying to rush to London to get to my dad before he dies

Dad had a heart attack on Friday night, heart was not beating on and off for 2 and a half hours :( he had surgery but brain damage is bad and meds are no longer keeping him alive. Because of covid and having 3 kids I wasn't sure I'd be able to get to see him. I'm now on my way hoping I make it in time, we're weren't allowed in the hospital until we had the call. I just wish I'd come earlier but I don't drive and knew I'd be frozen just waiting outside. Also was told it could be hours days or weeks. I'm so angry at myself and just hope I make it in time. He was only 66 and healthy. Hand hold please lovely mumneters this train really isn't moving fast enough Blush

I hope you make it OP. In normal times the hospitals usually have rooms (free) for relatives to stay in for circumstances like this.

So sorry. My dad died yesterday and thankfully I made it in time to say goodbye but one of my sisters didn't.

This is the hardest journey.
I was about 10 mins too late for my aunt some years ago. It didn't matter, I still sat with her and spoke to her, and said goodbyes from the family.
Warm hugs to you.

And another, I was called to my dad end of life two weeks ago today, I got there in half an hour but it was too late. He knows you are doing you’re best, xxx

Serin · 17/01/2021 17:25

Thinking of you OP. You are a lovely daughter. Xx

SlightlyJaded · 17/01/2021 17:26

Godspeed OP and a massive handhold from not a million miles from Hammersmith.

Just to say, if you DON'T make it in time, please don't blame yourself. I missed both my parents by a couple of hours. Both out of the blue and missed getting to my dad by an hour and my mum by a couple of hours. I nearly spiralled after my mum, but I've accepted it was what it was, and that the sum of our relationship was the years of love we had together not the hour I wasn't there. But I do hope you get there in time.

orangenasturtium · 17/01/2021 17:27

Flowers @africanantelope

It might be quicker getting an Uber from St Pancras straight to Hammersmith Hospital as it is A roads all the way. I'm in Central London en route on that journey and the roads are quiet. It would probably only take 20 minutes, which is half the time of the tube journey.

DS did placements at the hospital and when the Westway was empty it was a 15 minute journey from home (closer to an hour normally).

UseOfWeapons · 17/01/2021 17:31

Massive cuddle and handhold, dear OP.
Thinking of you, and hoping you make it in time xx💐

ProbablyFault · 17/01/2021 17:33

I'm so sorry - I've been on that train and in that taxi.

Thanks
Lifeispassingby · 17/01/2021 17:33

Please remember that whilst it feels important to be there at the end, the years before that are what matters most. The love you shared means more than anything. Covid has spoilt so much and I know how you feel as we couldn’t be with DFil at the end just before Christmas due to covid. Sending you lots of hugs and strength for the days ahead x

LockdownLove · 17/01/2021 17:34

I am so sorry. What a sad situation for you and your dad and his loved ones.
I very much hope you get to see him soon.
Hugs to you on this terrible day.
