To ask what I am missing about bath bombs?

Loads of people seem to love them. I got some for my birthday and thought I would have lovely fragrant relaxing bath. So I now find myself sitting in a bath that looks like I weed in it when waking up with a serious hangover and that just smells meh. It was an expensive lush one too.

I got step dd bathbombs once for Christmas and she told me later that the santa fizzer which was white on the outside, was actually bright green inside and apparently it dyed the bath green too. I bet her mum was really happy with me after that.

What am I missing?

I like them, but they are expensive, especially lush ones.

I wouldnt enjoy my bath knowing I'm literally washing 5 quid down the drain!

Any recommendations for cheaper ones that are half decent gladly received!

LemmysAceCard · 17/01/2021 16:05

DD loves them and has 1 a week, don’t like them personally but DD always looks for unusual ones.

TrialOfStyle · 17/01/2021 16:06

People always say they give them thrush but I thought bicarb is supposed to be really good for yeast infections. They are made with natural ingredients so I can’t see the difference between having bath oil in your bath.

I like them, but I don’t use them often as I can’t be bothered with baths usually (cold knees and elbows poking out). My son loves them though and gets really excited so I mostly buy for him.

User0ne · 17/01/2021 16:09

I hate them.

They leave a horrible greasy feeling on your skin and the bath too.

Theunamedcat · 17/01/2021 16:10

@HorseOfPhillipMoss

How often do people on MN get thrush 😳
Depends on how often we use bath bombs
Royalty2k · 17/01/2021 16:11

I can't use them 😟 I would get thrush or bv

MaryShelley1818 · 17/01/2021 16:11

I LOVE a bath bomb! Just ordered some from Lush Sale and bathroom now smells of sweets (Snow Fairy) and peppermint.

DS age 3 also loves them, just ordered him some Dinosaur ones from Etsy.

NannyR · 17/01/2021 16:13

Back when I had a bath, I used to really love a lush one that had cocoa butter and vanilla in. It didn't colour the water, smelt lovely and moisturised my skin. I never saw the attraction in the ones with petals or glitter in and deep colours though.

peak2021 · 17/01/2021 16:13

OP you are missing the fashion victim gene. Don't be concerned by this, like me you'll just upset those in marketing.

HorseOfPhillipMoss · 17/01/2021 16:14

I've only ever had thrush once and like a PP it was as the result of a hefty course of antibiotics, I don't see how bicarb and some natural oils/ dried flowers can give you thrush..... Are you confusing them with those blocks that go in the toilet cistern?

Ooh, could you link my the Dino ones? My 3 year old has been so excited with our lush order (he’s particularly fond of the snow fairy bubble bar), but would absolutely love that!
Lillygolightly · 17/01/2021 16:16

I’ve not used one since I was given one for Xmas when I was 18 (20 years ago Confused) and no word of a lie the thing literally burned my vag Blush. I got into my lovely bath after the bomb had done it’s fizzing and no less than a minute later some very sensitive areas were on fire.

Given that it was over 20 years ago I’m guessing there were quiet a few chemical nasties in it that probably aren’t in bath bombs these days. That being said I still remember the pain, so I just won’t risk it.

Love a good bubble bath though.

NerrSnerr · 17/01/2021 16:16

I love a bath bomb and use them a lot.

I think many people on Mumsnet don't understand that SOME people may get thrush from bath bombs, bubble bath etc. Not everyone. I have only had thrush once and that was after having IV antibiotics.

ShrikeAttack · 17/01/2021 16:17

I thought they were for children.

I don't like bubbles either. REN rose bath oil's my favourite bath augmenter.

TrialOfStyle · 17/01/2021 16:18

On the thrush convo (a weird convo, admittedly) I’ve had thrush a lot in the past but it was always from tampons and cotton pads. Since I stopped using them, it cleared up.

I’ve always sprinkled bicarb in the bath when it’s been particularly uncomfortable and really helps ease the pain and itching.

tattiehat · 17/01/2021 16:19

Hate them! But I always have a shower.
My SIL (who is lovely) buys them for me every year for my birthday and I would use them for my DD but we moved last year and only have shower now (SIL unaware of this), trying to figure out who to give them to....

MoveAsideCherry · 17/01/2021 16:20

Totally agree with you op. First tried bath bombs when they were 'new' out and all the rage 22 years ago (god that makes feel old!) and as a young teen i thought they were crap then! I'm surprised they've made a come back to be honest! I much prefer a nice quality bottle of luxurious bubble bath.

Tal45 · 17/01/2021 16:21

I can't go in the Lush shop it gives me a headache and makes me feel ill.

burnoutbabe · 17/01/2021 16:22

I similarly don't get them as mine too always look like a bath with some brown colour to it.

They never look like the pictures online, even when I buy that exact lush bath bomb. It never looks like a unicorn swirls of colour. Maybe I am doing them wrong by putting them in when water running.

So gave up and just use bubble bath.

Sparklingbrook · 17/01/2021 16:24

My gynaecologist told me years ago 'the only thing you should add to a bath is yourself'. Make of that what you will but it's a no to bath bombs for me. Grin

AwaAnBileYerHeid · 17/01/2021 16:24

You'll end up with thrush with that shite. I find them so irritating

MoveAsideCherry · 17/01/2021 16:25

Also i feel the same about bath melts too. I once tried some with little rose petals within them; the bath looked like it was filled with dead sliders parts! Definitely not what you need to see when attempting to relax!

FFSAllTheGoodOnesArereadyTaken · 17/01/2021 16:26

Thrush?!

Sparklingbrook · 17/01/2021 16:26

I don't think just thrush (never had it). General irritation definitely-same as scented loo roll and sanitary towels.

MoveAsideCherry · 17/01/2021 16:26

spider parts* although i slide right out the bath when I realised! Awful experince...
