To think DH is being ridiculous to not eat this?

Mushroom pie with instructions on packet to cook from chilled and to defrost in the refrigerator. I'm running out of time so defrosted on counter. He found packet and is now moaning and refusing to eat it because it might give him food poisoning. AIBU to think he is being absurd?

Things take days to defrost in our fridge. I always defrost things on the counter and then move to fridge if they have defrosted before I’m ready to cook them.

FFSAllTheGoodOnesArereadyTaken · 17/01/2021 15:18

Yes unless you live somewhere tropical and you've left it out all day and it contains something else that spoils rapidly when warm like seafood then he is being an idiot. Food doesnt go from absolutely fine to poisonous in the space if a couple of hours. If he ever eats in a restaurant, chefs I know keep food on the side a lot longer than most people do at home

JohnBarron · 17/01/2021 15:20

I always defrost food on the side.

WaltzingBetty · 17/01/2021 15:23

@KirstenBlest

Don't you cook your pies from scratch?
@KirstenBlest are you struggling with your reading comprehension or trying to make a faux-innocent point about your superiority as a human being because you make your pies from scratch?
GrallaceandWomit · 17/01/2021 15:24

I always defrost on the side too!

DahliaMacNamara · 17/01/2021 15:24

Same here. Where d'you get the mushroom pie, OP? I want one. Will have to make my own or put it on a post-lockdown wishlist, but still.

Amarilike · 17/01/2021 15:24

He’d be mortified at me. I’m cooking a whole chicken that was still partially frozen!!!! Shock

WaltzingBetty · 17/01/2021 15:24

@Shushpuppy your pie will be fine - does he not understand that cooking kills any bugs anyway so 🤷‍♀️

Pythonesque · 17/01/2021 15:25

Growing up in Sydney, we would still defrost stuff on the side in summer - though admittedly it didn't take very long and wasn't left out longer than necessary when it was hot!

Mummyoflittledragon · 17/01/2021 15:29

Ah well McDonald’s or a hungry tummy for him. On the plus side that’s your lunch or dinner sorted for tomorrow.

topcat2014 · 17/01/2021 15:33

I am interested to know what mushroom pie is like.
I like pies
I like mushrooms

Never joined them together.

Oh, and of course there is no issue!

SchrodingersImmigrant · 17/01/2021 15:33

I have properly cold fridge and it would take ages😂 I have no ability to plan that many days ahead. Everything is defrosted in a sink in the end. Yanbu

Nanny2many · 17/01/2021 15:35

he can make something else then!

SleepingStandingUp · 17/01/2021 15:38

I know @KirstenBlest the inhumanity of expecting the man to eat PRE-MADE food. Clearly he would have the lazy wench.

I like mushrooms @Shushpuppy I'll come for tea, screw DH

RunnerDuck2020 · 17/01/2021 15:39

Can you even get food poisoning from mushrooms?! Wink I always defrost things on the side and often end up cooking from partially frozen anyway, as I never remember to get things out early enough to allow time for them to defrost in the fridge! Not made anyone ill yet Smile

Butchyrestingface · 17/01/2021 15:40

This is the opposite of a problem. You eat his portion, he starves and feels righteous.

In fact, I'd start doing this more often now you know his Achilles heel.

lurch3r · 17/01/2021 15:41

He'd starve to death in this house. I'd have whacked it in frozen and just checked it was completely hot in the middle.

Viviennemary · 17/01/2021 15:43

No. Once you think something is dodgy you can't eat it. Even if it is all in the mind

Mrsjayy · 17/01/2021 15:44

Most people defrost on the side don't they defrosting in the fridge takes forever and a day, What is your DH going to cook if he doesn't want the pie ?

Edgeoftheledge · 17/01/2021 15:47

Let him sort his own food.. hes being ridiculious

EnolanotAlone · 17/01/2021 15:48

Same day thaw & ready to cook is fine. DH is being soft. cave men ate much worse, and they survived.

You DH just wants a fresh homemade meat pie.

If the pie thawed out and sat for over 24 hrs, then he may have a point.

Deathraystare · 17/01/2021 15:49

More for you then. Yummy!

My friend has a metal thing that you put on the worktop and it magically defrosts things faster.

iklboo · 17/01/2021 15:49

Well it's a mushroom one do he's out of luck there Grin

FippertyGibbett · 17/01/2021 15:49

I never defrost in the fridge, always on the side.

Scarby9 · 17/01/2021 15:50

I always defrost on the side.
Get it our of the freezer before bed, leave on the side overnight then put in the fridge in the morning to cook / reheat in the evening.
No problems.
