To think DH is being ridiculous to not eat this?

Mushroom pie with instructions on packet to cook from chilled and to defrost in the refrigerator. I'm running out of time so defrosted on counter. He found packet and is now moaning and refusing to eat it because it might give him food poisoning. AIBU to think he is being absurd?

Ah, someone beat me to it, damn.

LadyDique · 17/01/2021 17:52

I always defrost on the counter.

Everything from a gateaux to a big piece of meat.

Defrosting in the fridge takes an age, I don't have time (or fridge space!) for that.

CandyLeBonBon · 17/01/2021 17:54

This thread is hilarious. I'm especially thrilled at plan's Brit-bashing and the idea of Shirley valentine's husband but having his steak tonight!

Latenightreader · 17/01/2021 17:54

Mushroom pies can be delicious! Is it a Higgledy pie? Bought one for my mum last week but didn’t get to try it myself.

TillyTopper · 17/01/2021 17:55

He's being ridiculous turning down a perfectly good pie. He gets his own, you have the pie.

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 17/01/2021 17:57

to be honest, most men would prefer meat for a main course. Perhaps this is more the issue? My Hubby would always prefer meat to be part of the meal I cook.

You say your hubby bubs is 'vegetarian' OP? That doesn't sound very masculine. Also you mention nothing about him giving you housekeeping money, or giving you a firm shake when you become hysterical. Are you sure he's a man?

Fuckingcrustybread · 17/01/2021 18:05

@NonagonInfinityOpensTheDoor

Ahhh yes the British I vaguely remember them Didn't they all die, due to food poisoning?

It was their own fault. They kept putting chicken in the pies clearly labelled mushroom pies...

🤣🤣
Nicolastuffedone · 17/01/2021 18:07

I thought Kirsten was being sarcastic.....

Nicolastuffedone · 17/01/2021 18:08

......I mean in a funny, tongue in cheek way

Arobase · 17/01/2021 18:13

My family are incredibly fussy about these things. I daren't tell them that, unbeknownst to them, they have spent decades being fed stuff that's gone beyond the Best Before date or defrosted outside the fridge and never yet had a bad reaction.

riceuten · 17/01/2021 18:15

He doesn't want the mushroom pie and is making an excuse

LyndaSnellsSniff · 17/01/2021 18:21

See, I want to like mushroom pie but we bought one at a food fair when I was pregnant (and queasy) and it turned to just be pastry, gazillions of mushrooms of all different types and NO SAUCE! It managed to be dry and slimy at the same time.

All other pies very welcome.

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 17/01/2021 18:26

@Nicolastuffedone yeah, I realised when I read some more of the thread... Blush in my defence, it was a hell of a lot less batshit than some of the things people say on here with a straight face!

RavingAnnie · 17/01/2021 18:42

I defrost everything on the side. Absolutely nothing defrosts in the fridge ime, just stays icy for days.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 17/01/2021 18:42

but that is peculiar to the British

I usually enjoy pointing out British quirks, but mate. No. Not a brit and we too defrosted many things outside of the fridge. Frankly, since we are talking food hygiene, you should look at your fridge setting, if you can easily and fully defrost in your fridgde.
I am not waiting 2 days for my meat.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 17/01/2021 18:43

Like the Christmas goose which was put in a fridge ilon 23rd afternoon and had to be left outside on 24th at night because it was still fully bloody frozen😑

Whiskysoda · 17/01/2021 18:48

Let him starve.

My DH long since realised that I take cooking instructions or best before dates as a very rough guide only.

iklboo · 17/01/2021 18:49

We do defrost some stuff on the side but meat / fish has to go in the fridge a couple of days before we want it or it ends up in the cat.

AndcalloffChristmas · 17/01/2021 18:51

Ridiculous of him

MiriamMargo · 17/01/2021 18:51

Well tell him to do without then, but don't cook him anything else

Floralnomad · 17/01/2021 18:53

@Summersun2020

Yes, they home bake them, freeze them, wrap them in packaging on which they’re written their own storage and cooking instructions THEN they eat it. Nob.
Brilliant 😀
DeciduousPerennial · 17/01/2021 18:57

I defrosted a chicken on the side once. It’s a dangerous game - it was such an ‘over degrees 5C breeding ground’ that it hatched a whole brood of new chickens and we were overrun.

Omg this is like an ultimate MN chicken. The Super MN chicken. 100 meals from one!
Shushpuppy · 17/01/2021 19:06

I cooked the pie. He ate the pie. Pie thoroughly enjoyed. Pie also has baby onions and red wine sauce. I've now typed pie so many times the word seems strange. Grin
