To think DH is being ridiculous to not eat this?

Mushroom pie with instructions on packet to cook from chilled and to defrost in the refrigerator. I'm running out of time so defrosted on counter. He found packet and is now moaning and refusing to eat it because it might give him food poisoning. AIBU to think he is being absurd?

Total Twit. He didn’t want it because it had no meat in it. I did. ‘Hippy curry’ tonight as it was called by husband because it had no meat.
It meant he had to have about 20 biscuits for pudding to make up
For the lack of meat. Ffs.

@PlanDeRaccordement

If doctors were seeing high numbers of miscarriage during food poisoning

Well they wouldn’t be able to see that because as I posted earlier, studies have shown that food poisoning bad enough to kill a foetus is often asymptomatic or very mild in the mother. Mild enough that it is often dismissed as normal pregnancy related indigestion or acid reflux. The doctor would only see miscarriage. They wouldn’t think to test for food poisoning.

So much for the baloney about not bothering to track the cause of death:

no one has bothered to track cause of death for each reported miscarriage and then tabulate it into statistics.

Someone has been frantically googling pregnancy I see. Wink

Let him go hungry. Eat it an enjoy. The upside of this is that someone is going to be able to say, "I told you so!" and I'm betting it will be you, with a full tummy to him, hungry.

Lovely1a2b3c · 18/01/2021 23:13

I agree with him really.

It depends how long it was defrosting on the surface for- the thing is if the outside (e.g. the pastry) has been fully defrosted for a long time before the filling is defrosted then it's the same as leaving a normal refrigerated pie out of the fridge for hours- it can cause food poisoning.

@Summersun2020

Yes, they home bake them, freeze them, wrap them in packaging on which they’re written their own storage and cooking instructions THEN they eat it. Nob.
I think she was joking but Grin

A vegetable pie (or even beef pie), I’d eat no problem.

(A pork or chicken pie defrosted on counter I wouldn’t touch.)

josbd · 19/01/2021 00:58

He can always bloody well make his own damn dinner!

Petlover9 · 19/01/2021 03:36

@Summersun2020. I was thinking the same thing!

jontyl · 19/01/2021 07:45

Maybe you need to explain defrosting etc to your husband who probably hasn't experience in this field. Being more inclusive.

kennycat · 19/01/2021 10:04

Oops, didn’t clock that he was a veggie!!

pinkflamingo112 · 19/01/2021 15:57

hes being an arse ,best he cook something else !!

bemusedmoose · 19/01/2021 18:41

being a twat - my ex would do this too. Drove me up the wall.

If he doesnt want it he can make something else and you can have all the yummy pie while he eats... well he'll probably do toast and then moan.

Ddot · 20/01/2021 16:37

Defrost on side but always with fly cover on, even in winter. Stops fur baby having a taste. Not that she walks on kitchen tops 😉never not ever that would be disgusting

SpanishChard · 20/01/2021 16:38

VerbenaGirl · 23/01/2021 17:57

Crosswithlifeatm · 24/01/2021 00:55

I defrost on the side.Trying to defrost in the fridge takes days!

AcornTreeMusic · 26/01/2021 14:16

@KirstenBlest

Don't you cook your pies from scratch?
Grin
StillCoughingandLaughing · 27/01/2021 00:00

Case in point - I accidentally bought two bags of frozen peas and didn’t have room for both in the freezer, so stuck one in the fridge and thought I’d make pea soup. They’re still frozen ten hours later.

MrsClatterbuck · 27/01/2021 01:01

I never defrost in the fridge. Always on the worktop. Sometimes overnight though I then put in fridge until ready to cook. But if taken out in the morning will cook in evening. I also reheat things even though it says not to. I have even used stuff past its use by date. We are still very much alive and kicking. One thing I am fussy about is rice after a food safety course. So anything reheated gets a good heating up.

StarlightLady · 27/01/2021 03:59

(lighthearted)

OP, you are in danger of losing control and it’s a long slippery slope.

Item required: hairbrush.

Put him over your knee.

Lower pants.

Apply hairbrush hard and firm.

Tell him to eat it.

If this does not work, repeat. 😂
