I watched a programme about her last night and she was so charming.
It would just make for a really jolly afternoon.

I can’t think of anyone who would be better company, can you?

Omg the footnote to the story about Dolly and Porter Waggoner on the second episode of the podcast.... she's so amazing.

ssd · 19/01/2021 11:21

I love her too @UndyingDeathdefying

ssd · 19/01/2021 11:23

And what a beautiful voice she has.

MargotMoon · 19/01/2021 17:25

It's her birthday today! 🥳

You can add some birthday cake to the tea table @UndyingDeathdefying (although she's so tiny she probably doesn't eat cake)

AdoraBell · 19/01/2021 23:03

Happy birthday Dolly 🎉 🎊 🎂🥂

Rummikub · 19/01/2021 23:12

@twinsufficient

Disclaimer: this may be totally false, but did I hear that Dolly helped fund one of the Covid vaccines?
Yes she did A million dollars very early on in the pandemic.

I love her too. She’s funny and gracious.

@singsingbluesilver

Holy hell I am now on page 5 and not one single poster has a bad word to say about Dolly. That has to be a record for MN!!!

I adore Dolly. Her song writing is up there with the very best, and I have long thought she has not got the credit for it that it deserves pure poetry.

I read somewhere that when they made 9 to 5 someone remarked there was no theme song yet. Dolly just sat down and wrote it in minutes. That is some talent.

She does an amazing amount for charity. She is as funny as heck. Self deprecating. A superb role model. All hail Dolly!

Yes she wrote it by using her long nails to find the rhythm
Elderflower14 · 19/01/2021 23:20

Love Dolly.. Love The words mean so much to me and my disabled son.. Never give up!! ♥

VeganCow · 19/01/2021 23:20

Has anyone a bad word to say about her? I think she is fab, saw her on tv when she did Glastonbury and couldn’t believe how good she is. Also couldn’t believe she wrote ‘I will always love you’ had never known that until recently.

Chambored · 19/01/2021 23:23

@schmockdown

I watched a Netflix documentary about her a couple of months ago. She's absolutely bloody marvellous. Talented, intelligent and a real head for business. She really was a trailblazer. Love that she keeps her husband out of the media circus too.
@schmockdown - can you remember what the documentary was called please?
AriesTheRam · 19/01/2021 23:28

75 today.She doesn't look it!

Chambored · 19/01/2021 23:32

@RedHotChiliChips

I love Dolly too. I find it incredible she has all that talent, drive, intelligent, beauty, heart and wit. It’s almost other wordly. I’ve heard the claim that there’s not a single person in showbiz who have anything bad to say about Dolly.

Miley Cyrus has done amazing version of Jolene btw. It’s in youtube if you search it. Her voice really suits for this kind of music.

Dolly is Miley’s godmother.
WINKINGatyourage · 19/01/2021 23:59

@Chambored the Here I Am doc is on Netflix, it’s possibly that one PP is talking about.

Oblahdeeoblahdoe · 20/01/2021 00:03

It must be the date. My wonderful late MIL has the same birthday as Dolly. Both absolutely marvellous women

Chambored · 20/01/2021 00:11

Thank you @WINKINGatyourage

Inpersuitofhappiness · 20/01/2021 00:14

Shes such a special woman. I've always loved her. My husbands recently got into country music, and he's said we should do a bit of a road trip in the south. I want to go to Dollywood so much! My 13 year old isn't as keen though, mind.

GarytheRedNosedUnicorn · 20/01/2021 02:24

This is an extreme long shot, but could anybody pm me with any clue on how I may contact her management team or similar? I have a friend who is terminally ill with cancer, he is a young guy and may only have a few months left to live. His bucket wish would be to have a spoken or written message from Dolly. She must be bombarded with similar requests, but by some miracle, someone on MN, may be able to provide a key....

Oatgroat · 20/01/2021 08:05

She's on Twitter, @ DollyParton (no space obvs)

Oooohbehave · 20/01/2021 08:15

Agree. She just oozes kindness. Warm, funny, intelligent, grounded despite her success. She's amazing.

CorianderBee · 20/01/2021 09:18

Yes wonderful

CorianderBee · 20/01/2021 09:21

@lljkk

I know DP is 1000% fully lovely person... but I hate her face, the 'work' she's had done. I'm no beauty Queen myself, of course, but I wouldn't expect to be invited anywhere either.
I don't hang out with people because they're good looking... I invite people who are good fun, honest, funny, kind people
ImsorryWilson · 20/01/2021 11:12

I think the

"of all the people I never thought for a moment would be my hero"

thing has a lot to do with why she charms me. Every time I hear her talk I think "oh young Wilson, you were so wrong in the 80s"

Snugglepiggy · 20/01/2021 11:34

She's a grafter,kind hearted and most importantly an optimist.We could do with more people around us like that.It makes getting life a hell of a lot easier .

BooksMusicSnacks · 20/01/2021 11:37

I think she is a truly wonderful, kind and clever lady. Getting more into her music now I'm a bit older! The Imagination Library is a brilliant scheme and 150 million books have been gifted to so many children, what a meaningful legacy.

WINKINGatyourage · 20/01/2021 11:43

I fell into a YouTube rabbit hole last night and found a channel where the couple react to music they havent heard before. They had done several Dolly songs. Their reactions were so beautiful to see. And of course they cried at coat of many colours! Grin their faces during “me and little Andy” though! They were not expecting that turn of events. It was really lovely to see people who had never experienced Dolly before, discover her work and unbelievable talent.
