I watched a programme about her last night and she was so charming.
It would just make for a really jolly afternoon.

I can’t think of anyone who would be better company, can you?

I bloody love her. Ridiculously talented and underrated song writer; funding a vaccine programme; sending books to underprivileged kids not just all over the US, but in the UK too. And she is smart, witty.... She's my hero.

Vermeil · 16/01/2021 10:46

What struck me during last night’s doc is that she really is blisteringly intelligent. I got the feeling that if music hadn’t been her schtick she could have turned her hand to anything and been hugely successful.

Completely agree. She is driven and so so hard working and yes, very very intelligent.
CrotchBurn · 16/01/2021 11:01

She should be the MN poster girl.

Another thing: hasnt she been with her man for decades? And hes a low key local homebody? Theres something I like about that

TakeMeToYourLiar · 16/01/2021 11:01

Where was the documentary on? I'd love to watch it

The Jolene song bugs me a bit as she seems to blame Jolene for her man straying. Classic. But then I have to get over myself and just enjoy the music Grin

Try listening to it as though the singer secretly wants Jolene, but can't express that... takes it to a whole new place!
chillychicken · 16/01/2021 11:11

I am a huge Dolly fan and last nights documentary made me love her even more.

I much prefer her version of I will always love you but I loved her comment about how much money she makes from Whitney’s version Grin

StCharlotte · 16/01/2021 11:12

@Craftycorvid

Love her! She can come round ours for a brew any time - and if Miriam Margolyes happens to be passing, she’s very welcome to pop in as well.
Not sure about that combo. Miriam likes to shock and I would be too worried that she might genuinely upset the living goddess that is Dolly.

Disclaimer: this may be totally false, but did I hear that Dolly helped fund one of the Covid vaccines?
I read that too

Absolutely agree multivac, Dolly is fabulous.
AriesTheRam · 16/01/2021 11:21

I love her,she seems such a genuine, warm woman and she does loads for charity.Itll be a sad day when she dies.

She has spoken about that song and said it was inspired by a pretty red haired bank teller flirting shamelessly with her husband in front of her when they went to the bank together.

So, not quite "blaming" anyone as thats not real nice behaviour is it?

Thehogfatherstolemycurry · 16/01/2021 11:26

Love Dolly, I want to be her friend 😂 she seems to do such a lot for her community and she seems really wise.
Her bluegrass albums are brilliant too.

TheOneLeggedJockey · 16/01/2021 11:26

Dolly is amazing. Think it has taken her entire life to get this point - but she deserve respect it.

longtompot · 16/01/2021 11:38

@FitzsimmonsMarvel

Any dolly fans should watch ‘Dumplin’ on Netflix!
Such a good film. I love Dolly and some of her music. I couldn't watch last night as I am not really a country music fan, but Idid see her Glastonbury set when she was there and it was fab. She is such a grounded and fabulous person Glitterball

Chalkcheese · 16/01/2021 11:44

What's an asphalt? Isn't that a road covering?

UndyingDeathdefying · 16/01/2021 11:45

Yeah, Dolly’s husband does roads/driveways. Retired now.

cactuscushion · 16/01/2021 11:45

She was on the 'table manners' podcast and was a great guest. I recommend listening to that episode.

Sparklingbrook · 16/01/2021 11:46

I would welcome her round for tea and i would love it if she brought her mate Barry Gibb with her.

AdoraBell · 16/01/2021 11:49

She’s fabulous, regardless of anyone saying she’s ugly. Welcome here at Casa Adora any time.
