I watched a programme about her last night and she was so charming.
It would just make for a really jolly afternoon.

I can’t think of anyone who would be better company, can you?

@spoonrace

Another Dolly fan here...I've even been to Dollywood Grin
What was it like? Please tell all
YouBoughtMeAWall · 16/01/2021 17:31

I read somewhere that when they made 9 to 5 someone remarked there was no theme song yet. Dolly just sat down and wrote it in minutes. That is some talent.

On the “here I am” programme that was on last night (also on Netflix) she said she spent time just walking around the set and getting inspiration and she wrote so many verses that were never used. She did it over time whilst filming and divulged a bit to the others every day to keep the excitement of it up.

I’ve been feeling so low these last few weeks. No motivation to do anything, not looking after myself, putting off doing the shopping etc. After watching here I am last night and listening to some Dolly today it gave me the boot up the hole to get myself up and washed, blow dry my hair and put in some make up to leave the house and get some much needed food shopping in. I feel so much better. She’s such an inspirational person.

Freaksandgeeks · 16/01/2021 17:41

Clever, funny, talented, charming, warm, hardworking...Legend. I love her too.

Changednamesorry · 16/01/2021 17:41

Dolly is an absolute hero. I love her and so do my sons. She's just fantastic.

Redyoyo · 16/01/2021 18:12

Dolly is my absolute hero, I've loved her since I was a teenager when I got mocked for loving country music. My heart sings when I hear my kids singing country music.

dollywooddreams · 16/01/2021 18:55

NC obvs. Dollywood is brilliant! It's a mixture of rides and country music and she has an American eagle sanctuary there. There is a steam train that takes you out around the park and shows galore. Cinnamon buns and apple barns and home food galore. We absolutely loved it.

The Smokies have a lot of thunderstorms and we were completely entertained for the whole 3 hours that there was a storm. (They close the rides if there is a storm within 10 miles or something like that).

A replica of Dolly's childhood home is there where she lived with her parents and 11 brothers and sisters. Definitely spend a few days in the Gatlinburg area if you are ever in Tennessee. The national park is amazing. We did hiking trails (with kids) to waterfalls and saw bears 🐻!

Here's my magnet collection from some of that trip!

@RedHotChiliChips

I love Dolly too. I find it incredible she has all that talent, drive, intelligent, beauty, heart and wit. It’s almost other wordly. I’ve heard the claim that there’s not a single person in showbiz who have anything bad to say about Dolly.

Miley Cyrus has done amazing version of Jolene btw. It’s in youtube if you search it. Her voice really suits for this kind of music.

Dolly is Miley's godmother ❤️

You need Dolly’s Light of a Clear Blue Morning. 💙

I was at school with a Jolene - we are ‘73 babies, so I’m sure she was named after the song.

DH got me this for Christmas - great book.

“The national park is amazing. We did hiking trails (with kids) to waterfalls and saw bears”

Angry spent a full week looking for bears!!! Gave up, went to a bear sanctuary, they shut it for a storm... which didn’t happen btw.

Decided bears were made up, lol

But other than that, yes, Dollywood was great, I’m not really a ride person, but DP and DS rated them... I was mostly looking at the dolly stuff 😊 the national park was amazing

dollywooddreams · 16/01/2021 19:30

Oh no @tabulahrasa sorry! They were definitely not made up. We saw a mother and cub at Cades Cove but our best bear spotting was very early in the morning (I dragged them all to the Grotto Falls Trail at 6am Grin).

The bears are very active at that time of day. I can't believe how high they climb. I also spotted one near somebody's bins just outside of the park.

We were due to revisit last year but...covid 😩

HalfShrunkMoreToGo · 16/01/2021 19:38

If you have Netflix, look up Shine on with Reece, episode 1 she interviews Dolly and Dolly is fabulous.

tabulahrasa · 16/01/2021 19:38

Sad tried dawn, tried dusk, tried all the places they were supposed to be... but then I figure if I couldn’t even manage to see captive ones... they must be made up Wink lol

I did manage to see deer and loads of turkeys though.

dollywooddreams · 16/01/2021 19:44

We were lucky! I'd do that trip all over again, it was amazing

Rachie1973 · 16/01/2021 19:55

Oh I’d love to meet her. She just seems so positive all the time.

Thanks for this tip - just started watching, and it’s so funny to hear Reece say that she wanted to be Dolly when she grew up. I have always thought that she was channeling Dolly when she played June Carter in Walk The Line.
Whitney168 · 16/01/2021 20:39

We saw a mother bear at the bottom of a tree and her three Cubs up the tree, so I can confirm they’re real LOL. Traffic stopped for them!

TheFaithfulBorderBinliner · 16/01/2021 21:26

Just watch the doc, brilliant.

Back in April there was a charity auction for tea with the Crown actors - Helena Bonham Carter, Olivia Coleman & Gillian Anderson, how brilliant would that have been!!!!! I would have worn a crown.

UndyingDeathdefying · 17/01/2021 11:21

I am a bit Olivia Colemanned out though she is nice I’m sure.
They don’t have that Dolly thing going do they?

I love Dolly
She's amazing

She kind of used to be a figure of fun for comics about her chest but she done so much for children with her reading program. As for her funding towards a Vaccine, all done very quietly, she's just a legend.
I want to go to Dollywood one day

BenoneBeauty · 17/01/2021 12:06

I've just watched the documentary following reading about it on here - brilliant! Loved it!

Love Dolly

Glad though we're not the only ones who dislike Miriam Margoyles - I don't watch Graham Norton if she's on the guest list after her past appearances on there. Also she was awful on the Marigold Hotel pensioners swap thing - even DS13 can't stand her - he said she was mean spirited and sad - I thought that summed her up

dollywooddreams · 17/01/2021 13:32

@Whitney168 bear jams are real! Cades Cove can take hours to get round because of them.

Love the Smokies. Wish I was there right now!

Miriam is crude and unpleasant , so unlike Dolly
