To want Dolly Parton come round for tea

I watched a programme about her last night and she was so charming.
It would just make for a really jolly afternoon.

I can’t think of anyone who would be better company, can you?

@UndyingDeathdefying

“ And hes a low key local homebody?”

He’s in alsphalt.....

That made me think of the MN favourite suggestion of burying useless DHs under the patio, ie Dolly P buried her DH in asphalt for some reason.

Anyway, to add to the Dolly love, I think she also volunteers at local primary schools helping DC with reading.

SkiingIsHeaven · 16/01/2021 12:00

I love Dolly. I was lucky enough to see her in concert in Manchester.

She is so talented. She played numerous different instruments and talked about why she wrote each song before she sang it.

She was so funny and engaging.

Her best film is Rhinestone with Sylvester Stallone but it doesn't seem to be available on Netflix, Amazon or other streaming sites.

Just love her and always fancied having a cup of tea with her.

I will always love Dolly.

MinnieJackson · 16/01/2021 12:00

I love her! On Xmas she dresses up as father Christmas for all her great nieces and nephews Grin

DioneTheDiabolist · 16/01/2021 12:00

I love everything about Dolly, she is a star in every way.😍🤩😍

PatchworkElmer · 16/01/2021 12:06

She’s welcome here any time too!

Streamside · 16/01/2021 12:14

Her Imagination library is an astonishing literacy project for children, it's provided hundreds of millions of books to children and the self sustaining business model behind it is pure genius.

Kanaloa · 16/01/2021 12:17

I love her but I think I’d rather go to hers for tea - I can imagine she’s an amazing host. She seems like such a nice person.

BenoneBeauty · 16/01/2021 12:30

I love her too! She's amazing!

spoonrace · 16/01/2021 13:03

Another Dolly fan here...I've even been to Dollywood Grin

MargotMoon · 16/01/2021 13:05

Another fully-paid up member of the Dolly fan club here. I loved that film last night, showing what a strong, quiet, feminist she is when she is so widely dismissed as just a blonde pair of tits.

When I win the lottery I'm going to take my bezzie to Dollywood. In the meantime, I need to look for 9 To 5, it's due another watch.

Imissmoominmama · 16/01/2021 13:15

I can’t imagine her husband was interested in Jolene anyway- Dolly has always been so very pretty, and sharp as anything!

Redcrayons · 16/01/2021 13:15

Shes welcome round mine anytime. I love her. I think she was dismissed in her early career because of her looks, so glad she gets a lot more respect now. She’s just amazing. So talented and super intelligent.

She also made the Jolene joke when I saw her live (which was bloody brilliant).

When I was having a tough time at work a couple of years ago, I used to blast 9 to 5 on my way in to cheer me up.

BlueThistles · 16/01/2021 13:20

Im going to Dolly World as soon as we're able 🎉

UndyingDeathdefying · 16/01/2021 13:22

“I’d rather go to hers for tea”

Ooh, you could write a song about it. “Tea in Tennessee”

What’s Dollywood like?

I tried so hard to get my son (now 11) into Dolly. Coat of Many Colours was made into a picture book and I would try and read it to him when he was around 3 or 4 years old. No matter how often I tried, he never got into it. He doesn't mind listening to her music now Grin

marriednotdead · 16/01/2021 13:26

What a lovely thread!

Remember watching her at Glastonbury, she has always been such a legend and a whole younger generation fell in love with her then.

I've downloaded the link @AlexisCarringtonColbyDexter kindly provided so that's my afternoon sorted Smile

YouBoughtMeAWall · 16/01/2021 13:26

Oh me too OP!! I love Dolly. I was raised on Dolly. My parents almost called me Jolene when I was born! Hmm Grin

She’s an amazing person. The energy she has at 75!!! Shock

YouBoughtMeAWall · 16/01/2021 13:29

@FitzsimmonsMarvel

Any dolly fans should watch ‘Dumplin’ on Netflix!
That was an awful film.
crumpet · 16/01/2021 13:30

Dolly Parton’s America is an excellent podcast - well worth a listen

She's welcome to mine. She knows her way to Glastonbury so she shouldn't have much trouble finding my house as I'm only 20 minutes up the road.

I'd also invite Dawn French and Susan Calman.
I would make sure there's cake...lots of cake.

Lampzade · 16/01/2021 13:33

@Craftycorvid

Love her! She can come round ours for a brew any time - and if Miriam Margolyes happens to be passing, she’s very welcome to pop in as well.
Excellent choices Two of my favourite celebrities
MiladyBerserko · 16/01/2021 13:35

I know someone who worked with her who said she is genuinely kind and generous

I love this thread.

I love Dolly P.

Maybe she should try becoming the next POTUS? (She's not too old yet....and would be an improvement in the current.....) - yes I know it's not that easy, and she'd be nearly 80 by the time it happened....
