Video of the terrible cruelty inflicted upon the geese:

and an expose on the awful working conditions in the factory:

OP posts:
WellThankyouAJPTaylor · 16/01/2021 09:33

very hard not to notice a persistent group of protesters on Regent Street

It's not at all hard not to notice them if, you know, YOU DON'T LIVE IN LONDON.

And loads of people would be surprised to learn that down production can be cruel, unlike fur, which has been well publicised.

YANBU OP. You've had some really weird, defensive replies. This place is odd sometimes.

TopBants · 16/01/2021 09:34

@RufustheSniggeringReindeer

I don’t really understand why people open a thread like this to have a pop at the op for starting a thread like this

Or post to say everyone knows about this when there are already posts saying that the poster didnt know about it

Ahh, it's because it's AIBU and, for some people, the OP is always being unreasonable, no matter whether they are or not. If they can't be snide, they won't post.
Nonamesavail · 16/01/2021 09:35

@goldielockdown2

Well I didn't know, my knowledge of Canada Goose extended to it being a premium brand in one of my DS' favourite shops. So thank you and in turn I can tell him and feel justified in saying 'no' if he hints for one again! (££££)
Same. I will not be buying one. Tha ks for making me.aware.
catnidge · 16/01/2021 09:36

Never even heard of the brand
Would now avoid. Yes, they should be named and shamed. It them puts pressure on the supplier to improve.

notanothertakeaway · 16/01/2021 09:36

To be fair, AIBU is full of non AIBU posts / questions. It irritates me a little, but this is no worse than many

And it is good to raise awareness

milienhaus · 16/01/2021 09:37

As a previous poster has said they also use real fur, so overall a pretty horrible brand.

BadTattoosAndSmellLikeBooze · 16/01/2021 09:38

Good post OP. Some people are not aware of the cruelty involved in this awful brand.
I’m just waiting for one poster in particular to come on who loves this brand and also loves her ‘furs’...🙄
Lol at those who are moaning this is in AIBU...most things on AIBU could be neatly filed under another topic. 🤷🏻‍♀️

goldielockdown2 · 16/01/2021 09:38

'I thought everyone knew about this'

'I'm surprised there are people that still don't know about this'

'How can people not know this?'

Ok I'll consider myself thoroughly shamed because I wasn't in the know. How embarrassing for me. I've never seen one of their shops before, I'm so sorry I've taken something from this thread but have shown myself up in admitting it. Hmm

ArosAdraDrosDolig · 16/01/2021 09:39

I didn’t know so I’m glad you posted here. Thank you. Ignore the self appointed moderators.

Mrgrinch · 16/01/2021 09:40

I will still wear them. I don't buy a real fur/duck down item expecting the animals to have lived in luxury and anyone who does has no business wearing them.

OytheBumbler · 16/01/2021 09:41

I like threads like this because they do raise awareness. I only recently found out that the bobbles on cheap bobble hats were real fur so now I try to make informed choices.

Nousernamesleftatall · 16/01/2021 09:41

I would suggest you go back to your box with your patronising post. It is just tiresome so many people suddenly feel the need to preach. It is not your job 'to raise awareness'

What a weird post! So you have to be professionally employed to raise awareness?

As I and many others have said I was not aware and am glad this was posted.

RufustheSniggeringReindeer · 16/01/2021 09:42

To the posters who didn't know - genuine question - what kind of conditions did you imagine for the birds being reared for the mass market feather and down producing industry?

upsidedownwavylegs · 16/01/2021 09:47

I’m not surprised by people not having heard of them, but they’ve been around for years and years (they’re pretty old hat trend wise). They’re an expensive purchase and the type of thing you know a bit about before buying one. Their audience know that there’s cruelty in the manufacturing and don’t care. People who aren’t their audience knowing is sort of neither here nor there. It’s a bit like going on a vegetarian forum to tell them about cruelty in meat production.

SimplyRadishing · 16/01/2021 09:48

@Lockheart

YABU to post this here. Could you not just go and join the rest of the annoying protesters who like to block the pavement on Regent Street?

Try the petitions and activism board.

This in spades.

I prefer Nobis. It's better quality and slightly cheaper.

DrinkReprehensibly · 16/01/2021 09:48

I've never heard of this brand but I do have other down products in my house, like pillows and duvets, so will have a look.

FrostyChocolateMilkshake · 16/01/2021 09:49

Thank you for raising awareness OP. I absolutely hate Canada Goose and do not understand how someone can wear their coats knowing the cruelty that is endured in their production.

FrostyChocolateMilkshake · 16/01/2021 09:49

You have completely missed the point of the OP...

@OytheBumbler I think a lot of people bought these products believing them to be fake fur because they actually WERE sold as fake fur.
goldielockdown2 · 16/01/2021 09:50

Chocomel

I've genuinely never sat down and thought about it. Just hasn't been on my radar. I'm sorry. I'm glad to know now though

TabletHelpPlease · 16/01/2021 09:51

Thanks for the info. I was unaware of this.

Iwonder08 · 16/01/2021 09:51

All the posters who were not aware of them, have you actually considered buying them? I somehow doubt anyone would randomly browse for a jacket and decide to chose a brand they've never heard of and spend over £1000. Vast majority of people who buy them must be aware of the brand and quite deliberately chose it. For these people it would be very unlikely not to be aware of how the down is produced. There was an awful lot of publicity about it.
I personally don't own anything from this brand, however I do own a goose down jacket, a goose down duvet and pillows from John Lewis, made of Canadian goose down. Do you believe the geese used by John Lewis had more pleasurable experience?
