Video of the terrible cruelty inflicted upon the geese:

and an expose on the awful working conditions in the factory:

OP posts:

They are also very switched on about negative comments and fond of litigation so ssssshhhhhhh. Grin

Weallfloatdownhere · 16/01/2021 09:25

I don’t understand why some posters are being so arsy. Yes a lot of people already know that CG do not give a shit about animal welfare, but not everyone does and it’s good to raise awareness. I cringe a bit when I see someone wearing CG stuff. Urgh.

TheKeatingFive · 16/01/2021 09:25

but why be arseholes about it?

Because they like the coats and don’t want to be reminded of the issues presumably.

Roundlampshade · 16/01/2021 09:25

Does this mean I can never buy a down duvet or pillow case again?

upsidedownwavylegs · 16/01/2021 09:25

@donquixotedelamancha

Did you want people to say “oh thanks, OP, I didn’t know that - I was going to buy one but I won’t now”? You’re a little bit too late for that. Anyone who would be bothered by this re CG knew about it years ago.

Great point. Possibly slightly undermined by all the previous posters who said exactly that and didn't know about it. Good effort though.

Not really- telling people who’d never have bought one anyway how cruel they are when it’s been known for years by anyone with the slightest interest in them is an entirely pointless endeavour. Good effort though.
Iknowwhatudidlastsummer · 16/01/2021 09:25

There's a way to present things. Don't tell people what to do, don't try to lecture them, it never goes well.

You can just as well raising awareness by showing your finding and explaining your argument, no need for a patronising post.

The OP is not the worst by all means, I have seen posters insulting and starting with "AIBU to think you have to be stupid to xyz". What's the point of that?

Toffeefee23 · 16/01/2021 09:26

Oh & ethical issues exist in relation to other products eg google cheap cashmere - it’s not very nice

pinkhousesarebest · 16/01/2021 09:26

Thank you for posting this. Am gobsmacked that anyone could think it should be tuck d cosily away out of sight. Cashmere is another horrrendous trade whilst we are at it.

wonderup · 16/01/2021 09:26

It is just tiresome so many people suddenly feel the need to preach

🤣🤣

AlternativePerspective · 16/01/2021 09:27

Mn needs an activism section for this kind of thread.

Posting a thread in AIBU “so it will be seen by more people” is tedious now. Fact is that AIBU is now so overloaded with posts which have nothing to do with the topic that most of them probably disappear anyway. In fact if AIBU didn’t overcrowd the boards so much topics such as activism and petitions and so on would be more widely seen.

Crockof · 16/01/2021 09:27

There's no rule that says if a thing has been talked about somewhere else, even extensively, it can't also be talked about here

No, thank fuck, otherwise MN would be a very quiet place. 99% of it is material I've read elsewhere /just a different useless partner/mil/etc but same shit.

wonderup · 16/01/2021 09:27

Because they like the coats and don’t want to be reminded of the issues presumably.

ding, ding, ding

Swiftjogger · 16/01/2021 09:27

Imagine coming on to a thread about cruelty to try and cause a scrap? What sort of a person would do that?

MarshaBradyo · 16/01/2021 09:28

Everyone telling the op off for wrong tone she didn’t write much other than link a couple of things. Hostile responses are quite funny

wonderup · 16/01/2021 09:28

It's clear what the the thread is about no one is forced to click on the thread

Goldieloxx · 16/01/2021 09:29

Hate this immoral brand, always judge people who wear it. Also personally think the coats look chavvy

Viviennemary · 16/01/2021 09:29

I think it's right these issues should be raised. I have heard of them. I don't find their clothes very appealing. But it's a pretty horrific way to obtain your products. No better than real fur.

Iknowwhatudidlastsummer · 16/01/2021 09:29

@Roundlampshade

Does this mean I can never buy a down duvet or pillow case again?
are you into the habit of doing everything a random poster on MN tells you to do or not to do?
Swiftjogger · 16/01/2021 09:29

@MarshaBradyo

Precisely, they are being extremely patronising themselves.
PattyPan · 16/01/2021 09:30

Yanbu - they also use real fur on their hoods! I mean it’s 2021, who tf still thinks fur is ok Confused

TopBants · 16/01/2021 09:31

Noted, OP. Don't think I've ever seen anything by Canada Goose for sale though. I presumed they were farmed geese from the OP, but from PP I presume they make coats?

wonderup · 16/01/2021 09:31

Hostile responses are quite funny

The hypocrisy is strong on this thread

StepOutOfLine · 16/01/2021 09:31

The thread police who have the abdabs if someone posts in what they consider to be the wrong section are far more irritating than an OP reminding people what fuckers CG are.

Not all down products are unethical. You need to research them though. And as others have said, there's a reason Primark sell cashmere for the same price that other companies sell a polyester t shirt. And it's unlikely to be a good one.

RufustheSniggeringReindeer · 16/01/2021 09:31

I don’t really understand why people open a thread like this to have a pop at the op for starting a thread like this

Or post to say everyone knows about this when there are already posts saying that the poster didnt know about it

DenisetheMenace · 16/01/2021 09:33

I’ve never heard of it. Don’t want to watch but assumed they must make bedding until someone mentioned wearing one 🤷‍♀️
