Video of the terrible cruelty inflicted upon the geese:

and an expose on the awful working conditions in the factory:

OP posts:
donquixotedelamancha · 16/01/2021 09:10

Did you want people to say “oh thanks, OP, I didn’t know that - I was going to buy one but I won’t now”? You’re a little bit too late for that. Anyone who would be bothered by this re CG knew about it years ago.

Great point. Possibly slightly undermined by all the previous posters who said exactly that and didn't know about it. Good effort though.

MarshaBradyo · 16/01/2021 09:11

The op’s response was fine

Fine to post here (but your links need two [[ to work easily)

Al1langdownthecleghole · 16/01/2021 09:11

YA - obviously - NBU to be concerned by cruelty but it has been extremely widely publicised.

I’m not sure that assuming everyone else is thick and thoughtless is the greatest way to persuade people to your cause.

NiceTwin · 16/01/2021 09:14

It is over priced chav wear, that is enough of a reason not to buy it.

Swiftjogger · 16/01/2021 09:14

Thanks op and lots of people are not aware. I would rather someone like you posted than some of the people who responded.

Chicchicchicchiclana · 16/01/2021 09:14

I don't come on Mumsnet to be lectured thank you. Keep it for your FB friends.

Iknowwhatudidlastsummer · 16/01/2021 09:16

Spending more than £1k on a coat is not everybody's choice anyway, I am sure the brand will survive your "boycott" OP Grin

Crockof · 16/01/2021 09:17

So we shouldn't raise issues about ongoing animal abuse because some people already know? And we shouldn't use AIBU because...... It makes you feel uncomfortable... you own one and don't want the reality to ruin it for you...

It's not a petition and OP only responded after complaining posts. If you don't like a post don't post, don't try and censor what others want to talk about.

Crockof · 16/01/2021 09:18

@Chicchicchicchiclana

I don't come on Mumsnet to be lectured thank you. Keep it for your FB friends.
But you do come to MN to lecture other people....
Candyfloss99 · 16/01/2021 09:18

How can people not know this? There are protesters outside most of their shops on a regular basis. Even I know and they have no shops in my country.

VinterKvinna · 16/01/2021 09:19

@donquixotedelamancha

Also I’ve reported your thread for the aggression you showed the first responder.

YABU to post this here.

Yeah OP, you must be kind. MN isn't known as the nest of kittens for nothing.

I think we should ask MNHQ to give the thread police a special colour or something. Otherwise how will posters know they have to obey when told what they are allowed to discuss?

Right... Hmm
Nousernamesleftatall · 16/01/2021 09:20

Not sure why some posters are being so horrible. As I said I didn’t know and will spread the word.

CandidaAlbicans2 · 16/01/2021 09:20

YABU to post this in AIBU rather than Chat (as another poster said, it gets irritating that so many posts are shoehorned into this section "for traffic"), but YANBU to raise awareness. I'm not going to watch the video as I've seen way too many animal cruelty ones so can imagine what happens to the geese.

While we're on the please boycott subject, the angora rabbit trade is horrific. I still shudder when I think of the video I saw of the rabbits screaming in Chinese factories 😢😡

DumplingsAndStew · 16/01/2021 09:20

@Theo1756

The video asks people to “please don’t buy Canada goose or any other down products” which suggests that all geese farms supplying the industry treat the birds badly. It’s important to raise awareness but calling out one company when the messaging is about the industry as a whole seems a bit misleading. Previous comments confirm this by saying they will not buy from one particular Company rather than down products. Just boycotting one company isn’t going to have the impact of boycotting the industry
This.

It's not specific to one company. It's down-filled products in general.

Fluffycloudland77 · 16/01/2021 09:20

Yanbu.

Vile practice.

Anniegetyourgun · 16/01/2021 09:21

The OP did not include a petition, so no, it doesn't belong in petitions Hmm

I didn't know about this company, and I'm (well, used to be) pretty switched on about animal cruelty. There's no rule that says if a thing has been talked about somewhere else, even extensively, it can't also be talked about here.

I also don't think mild sarcasm equates to aggression. And AIBU is full of all sorts of stuff that isn't precisely a question.

So to those saying bore off with your awareness raising, bore off with your "bore off". The title tells you all you need to know without opening the thread, if you have heard about it already. It's clearly aimed at those who may not have.

Longdistance · 16/01/2021 09:21

I knew. Anything that’s a goose product is going to be like this. Fois gras and goose down feather pillows. They treat geese so badly unfortunately Sad

WitchesNest · 16/01/2021 09:22

The thing is it doesn’t matter how justified you feel your cause is, you’re ramming it down people’s throats in AIBU on a Saturday morning when the large majority of posters aren’t ready to give a shit yet. Wait til the afternoon at least, you’ll get the slightly more empathetic lot. Don’t bother posting in the evening, it’s a Saturday night and you’ll have the slightly rowdier crowd who’ll hand your arse to you too. Timing is everything in AIBU Wink

Toffeefee23 · 16/01/2021 09:22

Yanbu

And I don’t see an issue with posting in this topic as posters post all sorts here.

I was already aware of the issue and think when buying any down products (not just CG) you need to consider welfare issues.

I know Mumsnet doesn’t approve of the word “chavvy” but CG is considered very chavvy around here.

TheKeatingFive · 16/01/2021 09:23

What wrong with posting here?

Looks like you’ve hit a nerve OP. I guess some people are very into their lovely new coats.

TriflePudding · 16/01/2021 09:23

I didn’t know this OP so thanks for posting.

And what the hell is going on with this place lately- You don’t have to agree with the OP but why be arseholes about it ?

Crockof · 16/01/2021 09:23

@Candyfloss99

How can people not know this? There are protesters outside most of their shops on a regular basis. Even I know and they have no shops in my country.
In fairness I didn't know about the brand - ie I've never heard of it- I knew about down like I know about cashmere and so wouldn't buy it.
StepOutOfLine · 16/01/2021 09:23

Another one surprised at the fact there are still people that don't know about CG and down products in general.
Still, I don't have a problem with the OP reminding us.
It's a disgusting company and the people who buy from them have a warped moral compass, prefering to sport a wanky "I paid a grand for an anorak" label.

Iwonder08 · 16/01/2021 09:24

OP, CG jackets cost £££, people who buy them are aware of the fact it comes from geese, it is not difficult to imagine the geese don't enjoy the process. It is also very hard not to notice a persistent group of protesters on Regents Street. I would suggest you go back to your box with your patronising post. It is just tiresome so many people suddenly feel the need to preach. It is not your job 'to raise awareness', it has been done many times before you. Find other ways to make yourself better, maybe go and report a couple of neighbours for having an unschedule walk in a park

wonderup · 16/01/2021 09:24

A lot of CG wearers on this thread! 😆
