I'll start...I went on my first date in a very long time years ago (in my 20s) and was totally catfished. Expecting a tall handsome man, I was greeted by a spotty, short man with his hair majorly thinning and looking double what he claimed his age to be. Being British, I decided it would be far too rude to leave so sat down whilst he whinged at me for 45 minutes about his bad back and other health problems. I made my excuses to leave and he insisted on walking me to my car. Got outside and he was about to go in for a kiss (shudder) when a man stumbled out the door of the pub and threw up. I got in my car quickly and never saw him again. I'm still thankful for that vomiting stranger!

Before I met my husband, I was actually pretty lucky that I didn't have any really horrific dates, but I did have one that had me running for the hills. I was 20, he was 30, we went out to dinner and the entire time he was banging on about me being his "dream girl", how I'm so perfect Hmm, ad nauseam. He also wanted to take me to meet his mum the following weekend. Thank god I met him there instead of him picking me up. I ended the date as quickly as I could and never spoke to him again.

Doublevodka · 11/01/2021 20:32

On a first date about 20 years ago, the guy told me that his sperm count was not low, but of poor quality due to his binge drinking.

I had a date with Stuart Stott who had a stutter. We went to see Addams Family Values. In the film, Thing is trying desperately to get a message across to Gomez, but his fingers are drumming wildly. Gomez tells him to stop stuttering. I nearly died Grin

We didn't make a second date.

I went on a date with a guy I knew casually from the gym. He turned up early to get flowers put on the table which I didn’t notice (assumed every table had them!) and he then pointed out to me.

We then talked about books made into movies. I said I was disappointed by Harry Potter as I had such a set idea of all the scenes from imagining them. He said he hadn’t read it until recently (in his 30s) at which point I engaged in what I thought was light teasing about not having read Harry Potter until adulthood.

He then explained with a long story, how he had undiagnosed dyslexia until a few years ago and had always masked his inability to read and how he had been so proud to make Harry Potter his first book once he sought support for his dyslexia and learnt to read in his late 20s.

Mortified. I left before dessert and he ran after me to give me the flowers I’d forgotten....

I felt like a terrible person and didn’t get invited for a second date.

At 16 was in a McDonald's with my friend. Guy at table across from us smiled at me. He came over with his number on paper and left immediately. I text him for a few days and were to meet up in a well known university grounds one afternoon.
He was 18 and very clearly gay but had no idea yet.

He also brought a small bottle of champagne and a punnet of peaches...I wanted to hide. I still loathe romance to this dayGrinNever saw him again

CoronaIsWatching · 11/01/2021 20:57

I told a joke and he started laughing so much his false teeth fell out onto the table in front of us

Tried OL dating once and before the date he wanted me to stand outside my front door whilst he drove past to see if he was interested or not

Fruitshootloop · 11/01/2021 20:58

First date with a gorgeous bloke, friend of a friend. I was so nervous I drank a large glass of wine for each pint of lager he had. I was extremely drunk, very quickly. We went back to mine.... and I woke up naked with all the lights on and him gone. I still cringe now, 10 years later.

Thereshegoesagain · 11/01/2021 21:01

Met a guy at a club, had a lovely snog. We arranged to meet a few days later.
He turned up with a massive crusty boggie in his nose, dreadful fashion glasses and, probably the most dreadful part of it all, his best mate, who was a total bellend.
Actually date was a bit of a knob too. I hung around long enough to realise it was all a huge mistake and left. He chased me for weeks until I stopped answering the phone.

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 11/01/2021 21:02

He took one look at my tits, burst into tears and snivelled through the night. I tried to be supportive and nurturing fuck knows why

Second date, second look at my tits, "said, I'm sorry, I just can't" and moved to Manchester where he did his best to get Grindr going.

Good for him.

My tits are whatever the opposite of conversion therapy is.

Here's another one for you all. First date with a guy I met out. Met him for drinks where he would only buy the cheapest drink on offer. We head to dinner and the same happens again when we get a drink whilst waiting for our seats. Take our seats and order a pizza to share. Pizza arrives, looks amazing and I dig in, pretty hungry. I'm told to stop eating whilst he hustles the waitress over and starts to prod at the pizza with his knife saying there is not enough cheese on it (I'm half way through my first slice and it's devine). The manager is summoned over where the pizza prodding starts all over again but this time he tries to make out like I'm making him complain about it! The pizza is taken away and appears 10 minutes later with a lake of cheese on top. He then tries to haggle the bill because of the lack of cheese on the pizza. All the while I'm dying inside and just want to eat and leave and never see this tight-wad again. Also when I asked him what he did he responded with "I don't like to talk about my work because it doesn't define me". What a prat. We worked in finance.

Been on a few dates with said guy. He asked me to meet him in town as a last minute thing, agreed. Got there he was completely drunk and only asked to meet me as he had been declined entry to a gig with his friends. Proceeded to say things like isn't it your round get the drinks in etc (I wasn't cash shy). Showed me a funny joke on his phone... Wrongly and brought up texts from his ex gf who was obviously a grey area. I went to leave and he was raging as he couldn't get the train home and assumed he was staying at mine - HE WASNT. He chased me for a while after. V memorable voicemail saying 'I don't know if you are ignoring me or AT holiday'. I am at holiday a lot....

Worst thing was he jumped into me in town one day after stalking me etc seen me in my work clothes and looking rough - never contacted me again ha!

Another date. Guy was lovely but memorable as he was nervous and had corn on the cob and proceeded to eat it with a fork and knife Grin

These stories have me howling. I love a good 'bad date' story - the funny ones, not the horrible twisted ones obviously!

I tried on line dating a while ago. There were some horrors and some nice ladies.
I met one lady, we went to a restaurant that she chose for a meal. She quickly disappeared when the bill came. She then drove me all round the area showing me places that she and her late husband liked.
I met another at the railway station, she came with the biggest overnight bag I've ever seen, she told me that there were no trains back later so she was staying with me. I'll admit the sex was mediocre and we never met again.
I met another lady and we went for an Indian meal. We talked non stop during the meal. I walked her back to her car and wanted to kiss her but was nervous. We met again two weeks later, had another Indian meal, a year latet we got married, 17 years later we are still married and she is still beautiful and we still alk non stop.

kleew1 · 11/01/2021 21:23

@Paul72 love the ending

Reinventinganna · 11/01/2021 21:23

Second date with a chap I met in a club. We went to an Italian restaurant. He was Italian (nothing to do with what followed but he felt it excused him) and became obnoxious and loud as we went through to our table. Our food arrived and he started yelling at the server, ‘what is this? What the fuck is this? You want me to fucking eat this shit?’
I didn’t know where to put myself so excused myself to the bathroom, apologised to the staff and left. He called repeatedly (home phone, before mobiles) and I hid on the floor in the dark for a month Grin

@Paul72 have a lump in my throat at your last one ❤

Worst date. A couple of online dating age related lies. Which were unfortunate .... one brushed it off with a he didn't think I would mine as I wasn't an A lister Hmm. I'm not but I'm also honest, obviously he wasn't.

I had one where it was for a married woman in an open marriage looking for a bisexual woman for the wife to potentially date, alone. I was dubious about meeting the husband on the first meeting as I thought they'd be looking for a 3some or such. They insisted not. But yeah they were. Husband was 'struck' by me and wasn't it soooooo funny how they were always attracted to the same women. The Hmm

StillCoughingandLaughing · 11/01/2021 21:40

I went to the toilet and came back to find my date gone. I sat mortified hoping he’d gone out to take an emergency call or something. I had just started to accept I’d been dumped mid-date when I got a text saying he was really sorry, but his mum had suddenly been taken ill and he’d be in touch.

I was slightly sceptical, but I thought I’d wait and see if he called. He didn’t. I bumped into him a few weeks later and he came over saying ‘Hi, how are you?’, all friendly. I said ‘So how’s your mother?’ in the most sarcastic tone possible.

She was dead.

Bluntness100 · 11/01/2021 21:43

At eighteen my friend set me up on my first and last blind date. She said it was her boyfriends brother. I had recently come out of a year long relationship with a man a decade or so older than me, who was a male model. Genuinely he was. And yeah, I know.

Anyway, she was a punk a few years older than me, mid twenties, I was not a punk or anything close, I was the high heels, blouse, long hair, and tight skirt kinda girl. She was the proper punk, Mohican, the clothes, the make up.

They pulled up to get us in this top of this range merc. Her boyfriend was about late twenties, Indian (relevant later) and about six foot two and well built, he was a good looking man,

His “brother” was in his fifties, approx five foot four and he can’t have weighed more than eight stone. To this day I think it was his boss or something,

I’m five eight, so in heels, and with the eighties big hair, I was knocking on six foot. So this tiny little, and what appeared to me at 18, rather elderly man got out the car. I was horrified. I won’t lie. He also looked fucking stunned when he saw me, I guess he was expecting another punk.

Anyway, we were going to a really trendy bar, and had to drive an hour. I got in the back with this man, and tried to be polite. All he kept saying in heavily accented English, was “this is nice” or “this is so pretty” and he’d sort of gently touch my skirt or blouse. I kept asking him questions about himself , and he just kept repeating himself, to the extent I started to actually think he maybe couldn’t speak much English.he just kept fucking staring at me, then gently touching me.it was so so bad.

I actually felt embarrassed, they were clearly wealthy from how they dressed and the car, but I thought I just looked like I might be a paid escort. Why else would some eighteen year old be on a date with a tiny man in his fifties, was all my young brain could think. I had no desire to look like a hooker.

We got in and ordered drinks. I went to th loo, I was quite upset by the whole thing, and as I was walking across thr bar, I heard my name. Yup. . My ex was sitting at a table with six or seven of his mates. I went over to say hello, and one of them said “we just need to ask, are you actually going out with that little guy” and they all started laughing, my ex just looked concerned. I wanted to cringe myself into a ball.

Anyways, I went to th loo, and then took my friend aside and said I wanted to go home, turned into a right argument, so we all left. And had the same fucking journey back with the “that’s so nice “.

Worst date ever, and it damaged our friendship some what, I can’t even understand what she was thinking.

Not a date per se, but I went to a dating event and for a laugh I decided I would wear my weirdest gothy clubbing get-up, so I turn up with purple hair and a ring in the middle of my nose, cyberdog gear and huge Swear boots.

But turns out they didn't, as I expected, have sole use of the venue, there was just a normal evening in the bar going on and though we had name labels, clearly no guy from the dating thing was going to assume I was there for that.... and TBF I didn't see any guy who looked the slightest bit worth breaking the ice with, so I claimed by free cocktail and left.
