Just that really. I neither like nor dislike him I don't feel any emotion towards him.
AIBU to ask why so many people on here hate/dislike Boris Johnson?

@CaptainSandy

Trump lover, incompetent, lazy, corrupt, gave public money to the mistress he was shagging while his then-wife was having cancer treatment, only pro-Brexit as it was expedient to his career, has made some horrendously racist and homophobic statements, has been fired from two jobs for lying, has got us a Brexit "deal" that is going to shrink the economy and hamstring business, has presided over a world-beating covid death rate.... should I go on? Oh yes, and no-one's quite sure how many children he actually has, least of all him, he certainly doesn't acknowledge all of them.
11 pages and yet the answer was comprehensively provided in the first few posts.

@ListeningQuietly I don't think you understood my question!! I haven't complained about anyone. I simply asked a question, I got people's views then asked another question.
I never once complained about how bad politicians are!!!!

if his mummy and daddy hadn't bought him a first class education, he may have ended up middle management somewhere, doing little harm, probably a bit of a smarmy office pest

The Mirror scored an own-goal printing this before the general election then;

Boris would go through all the [maths] booklets and correct everyone’s homework for a pound. Everybody assumes just because you went to an exclusive boarding school you’re rich.

"Boris’s family weren’t the most well off there by any means.”

The future Prime Minister won his place at Eton with an academically prestigious King’s Scholarship.

He was described as “brilliant” by former teachers.

Because he is the leader of a political party almost no one on mumsnet voted for. And because generally people on the left side of the political spectrum absolutely despise anyone not on the left and feel morally superior to them thereby feel free to let lose with their hatred. And because they are projecting how they would feel if their husband left for a 30 something. Oh and because he's posh and that's the prejudice that is socially acceptable for many

What rubbish is this?

Johnson is being judged for what he has done (or not) many on the left of the political debate would have Thatcher back (if it were possible) rather than Johnson and his shower of a cabinet, picked for their views on Brexit.

There are plenty in today's tory party who would do far better than Johnson & they aren't on the left !

TheBuffster · 08/01/2021 21:57

I do actually, slip of language as it's not something that I use myself in either case.
Does the item of clothing make it somehow less racist?

jasjas1973 · 08/01/2021 22:00

“All is not lost, by any means; he can easily affect a full return of grace by showing obvious commitment next [term].”

A second letter, sent by Mr Hammond in July 1982, suggested matters did not improve.

“Boris is pretty impressive when success can be achieved by pure intelligence unaccompanied by hard work,” he said.

“[But] he doesn’t have the instincts of a real scholar, and tends to ‘sell himself short’.

“He is, in fact, pretty idle about it all ... Boris has something of a tendency to assume that success and honours will drop into his lap: not so, he must work for them.”

He was born in the Upper East Side of Manhattan. He went fox hunting as a child. He won a scholarship which he was groomed for and which may have offered him reduced fees. It does not mean he is some impoverished genius who got a free place at Eton throigh hard work alone. "Not the wealthiest family there by any means"? At Eton? That does not mean he was not incredibly privileged.

UnshakenNeedsStirring · 08/01/2021 22:09

Are you kidding? Is this a joke? A really sick joke?
Hes a useless moron

MrsMiaWallis · 08/01/2021 22:10

Because he's posh and went to private school - that's enough to get you hated on Mumsnet.

He is a [redacted]

Clavinova · 08/01/2021 22:13

Trump lover

I'm not sure he is;

2015 -
"I think Donald Trump is clearly out of his mind if he thinks that's a sensible way to proceed, to ban people going to the United States in that way, or to any country."

"When Donald Trump says there are parts of London that are ‘no go’ areas, I think he’s betraying a quite stupefying ignorance that makes him frankly unfit to hold the office of President of the United States."

ListeningQuietly · 08/01/2021 22:13

I am the same age and background as Boris Johnson.
Friends of mine were at school with him.
Rich, male, white and connected
and then educated at great expense
no qualifications needed beyond the first four

Private schools like Eton only changed when state school League tables came out and showed what a shit investment return they were Grin

OutComeTheWolves · 08/01/2021 22:13

I feel like he's got the whole country on tenterhooks while he takes increasingly risky moves to feed his own vanity.

Facing off against the teaching unions last weekend for the sake of one day in school then an announcement at 8pm at night that schools would be closed the following day is an example of that.

Belittling Theresa May's brexit deal then taking us to the brink of no deal before pulling his slightly crappier deal out of the bag at the last minute is another example. As is trying to give us five days at Christmas before admitting defeat at the last minute and changing the plans.

He tried to tow the line between slowing the spread of covid and keeping our economy going (which as an aim in itself I have no problem with) and failed spectacularly.

He's a proven liar and I don't for one minute believe he was on that camping holiday in the summer.

He's so far out of his depth that I think history will look back at him very unfavourably.

TwilightToStarlight · 08/01/2021 22:14

No, only if you are in a position of power which you really should not have. The disparity in the percentage of the general population who attended public school, in comparison to the percentage of positions of power held by people who attended public school is disgusting. You can buy your way into power, which is bad enough. To get into that position of power and then clown around like it's all a jolly good laugh what? is revolting.

Many leading politicians, left or right went to private schools.

Johnson is a populist, that makes him useless as a PM, his schooling etc is irrelevant.

Boris Johnson is very academic. Even if you think he's a cunt, that can't be denied.

Being the same age and knowing some people who went to private school doesn't give you any special insight into his character.

skidadle · 08/01/2021 22:15

@MrsMiaWallis I thought Mumsnet would love the posh well educated folk. Always thought it was the working class they "hated"

I did say it was an 'own-goal' for The Mirror.

Yeah, Clavinova, 'cos Boris never suggested that Trump should have a Peace prize [[https://twitter.com/DavidLammy/status/1347151331065274369]]...

They said very intelligent and lazy, if you read on a bit. Most people like that end up as middle management at best, which was my original comment which you've gone a bit mad over. Are you ok hun?
HannibalHayes · 08/01/2021 22:17

oh fuck it

I don’t hate Boris, I just think he’s a twat.

MrsMia
Boris Johnson is very academic. Even if you think he's a cunt, that can't be denied.
It can because its NOT TRUE
He went to Eton at a time of NO Academic entry rules
and to Oxford when "Eton" was equal to 3 state school A Levels

I was there
and the Unis have worked VERY HARD to unravel that mess
